  1. I ... I have considered getting rid of my Switch lately. It gathers dust and hasn't been turned on in a couple months time. I also sold off a 1/5th of my 150ish game collection in a attempt to slim down before we start packing stuff away in boxes and moving not too long ago to a local collector. The only games I'm keeping and not getting rid of unless shit gets super dire are my M2 shumps. I have considered a OLED Steam Deck to replace it, and giving the Switch to my grandson with a few of the games (mostly Mario stuff); but my concern is that even with as many games as I have on PC, it'll still gather dust.
  2. A gadget update ... I won a iPad Air from a local raffle that the soccer association did a couple weeks ago, and also have a pair of the new Airpods Pro (with USB-C) that I'm breaking in. I swear, I'm working on stuff; but with recent changes coming at work and the Thanksgiving holiday here stateside means I have been super busy. I promise reviews are coming!
  3. I have a Apple Watch Series 9 in-house. Minus a couple of initial setup/backup quirks, it seems to be running fine. Charging it now while the World Series is on. I did not trade in my 1st Gen SE, and just plan on having it recycled when I go to Dallas on November 30th. Edit: I promise I'm working on reviews on the Apple TV and the 15 Pro Max.
  4. A few technology things as of late: 1.) Apple TV and iPhone 15 Pro Max are here and have been used for a week or two now. Expect reviews soon(ish) on both. 2.) Planning on finally retiring the Watch SE in a couple of weeks (gonna do a trade-in on it for a new Series 9 to knock $100 off the price) 3.) I have a Kindle being delivered next week. I do not plan on a review of this.
  5. can confirm this was the case during the time I was a govt contractor. During this last break from the site, we had a couple of things happen. Most important is that our plan to buy a house fell through (luckily we had only put up $500 for a application fee instead of our down payment). We are exploring other options for that, including renting at the same complex our daughter-in-law is at ... and staying here. We've not had any further issues with our Shepherd since the order was lifted, and the HOA fees are half of what we would potentially pay for rent, even with the $50 fee increase that started this past month. Since this happened, we will be here through the end of the year most likely (we are on a month-to-month basis with the HOA, and do not have a contracted commitment to stay currently).
  6. A update on this: I have a 15 Pro Max on order in White Titanium, scheduled to be delivered between October 11th and November 6th. Screen protectors are in house already, and case will be ordered on Wednesday; and should be here the following week. My 12 Pro Max will be traded in. I do also plan on getting a new Apple Watch when I go to Dallas on November 30th for a concert. Planning on trading in my Watch SE for a Ultra 2 (since it'll knock $90 off the price), but I may end up with a Series 9 to save some money. also new JerryRigEverything video on the 15 Pro Max:
  7. It's that time of year again! https://9to5mac.com/2023/08/29/iphone-15-event-announcement/ September 12th @ 1pm EDT What we're seeing: new iPhones (NO SHIT ITS CALLED A IPHONE EVENT LOL) / new Apple Watches
  8. Welp, We're officially in the market for a house. The stuff with the HOA here broke the camel's back, and combining that with my 3rd grandchild being born in November; this seems to be the best time to say deuces to this fucking place and move on.
  9. I'm starting to get frustrated with Limited Run, especially with the lead time on their collector's editions. I bought the Switch CE of Rumble Fish 2 from them, and I'm still waiting on a shipping notification despite purchasing it in October last year. This is beyond dumb, and if I can help it I won't buy another collector's edition from them again. Regular stuff seems cool, but CEs with them are nice but it's super frustrating to wait almost a year for a shipping notification.
  10. Got my copy of the Xenoblade 3 soundtrack during the most recent absence, and disk 4 had a gigantic fucking scratch on it (to the point where my CD Drive wouldn't read it). I did read where the soundtrack will be available digitally, but am uncertain of the format. That will be my next purchase most likely, and I also have a copy of the Octopath I OST being held for me at Fedex, planning on getting that tomorrow while out running errands.
  11. Was without a desktop computer for over 2 weeks due to multiple parts failing at the same time, then replacement parts being DOA; then being out of town for Quakecon this past weekend. That being said, for the "upgrade" I did get some decent stuff .... 12700KF and a Asus z790 motherboard with DDR4 support (?!). Everything booted first try as well, and I didn't have to buy another Windows license. Steve makes some very good points, as always. I haven't watched LTT stuff in a very long time (I even get recommendations for LTT content, main channel or otherwise) , but this is gonna get interesting very quickly, me thinks.
  12. So ... I gave my wife my S22 Ultra, and I reclaimed the older iPhone 12 Pro Max for myself. I also switched back to the Apple Watch from the Forerunner, and it does a lot of things better despite having a piss poor battery. I'm trying to work out a situation to where I can get a new iPhone at the holidays this year, and the 12 Pro Max will either go to my granddaughter, or it'll be traded in towards the new iPhone. I do plan on paying a substantial amount for a first device payment though, to minimize the monthly payments to T-Mo. I also plan on upgrading the Apple watch sometime in the fall. Typically when I buy something, it's predecessor gets announced immediately.
  13. The issue is that I'm 100+ miles from a Microcenter (about 2ish hours by car), so I might just pivot her to a 12th/13th gen Intel system and give her my case/motherboard/PSU; and move into a Mini ITX system. The issue with a Mini ITX system for me is that since I have a 7900 XTX, it's super hard to find a case that'll fit it in a smallish form factor. The wider A4 DAN case will fit it with 2mm to spare, and I think I can make that work.
  14. This might be something I get for my wife. She's got a older 2nd gen Ryzen (I think 2700x) in her PC, but the IPC gains between 2nd gen and 5th gen are nothing to mess with; and warrant me looking into this for her.
  15. It was ordered from CDJapan, so it's being delivered via DHL I assume. We were able to successfully delay our move towards the end of the year though, so we're good.
  16. From my understanding, Quakecon should have a playable demo at the event (which I am looking forward to trying out).
  17. yep. I went outside to run earlier around 12:30 today, and the heat index was already over 100 for a couple hours.
  18. Pixel Fold Reviews (which are very surprising, and will hopefully get updated as more get posted): MKBHD: MrMobile:
  19. So, I've been away for an extended period of time due to life stuff going on. Long story short, we're moving at the end of next month to be closer to our grandkids; either by renting a apartment for a year and saving for a down payment on a house or just yoloing 15k for a down payment on a 100k house. We can do either one.
  20. so, good news/bad news stuff. Good news is that I preordered the Xenoblade 3 OST when it went up for sale. Bad news is that we have about a month left here before we move into a new apartment, and it releases Mid-August iirc.
  21. I paid off my S22 Ultra today! The last payment was super dumb ($350), but knocking $50/mo off our cellphone bill pays for itself in the long run. Planning on finishing out the year on the S22, then maybe looking at new phones next year in either March or April; as that will be the two year point of ownership. Also, if I can help it; I'm paying cash upfront this next time for a unlocked phone.
