GetTheTables got a reaction from Pair of Rooks in The Guilty Gear general: Getting Wildly Assaulted in the Keyhole
So just my read on it but I think the following things are factors:

As you said, Burst is punishable. Its actually an interactive combo breaker that way, in that the attacker can try to bait it/blow it up (depending on the game) and thus the attacker feels like they still have offensive agency. Similarly, Burst isn't a get-out-of-jail free card. The hitbox of the burst needs to connect to save you, and it can be blocked/thrown (depending on the game) so you can't be too obvious as to when you use it. Because of that, the defender needs to be mindful of how they apply the "combo breaker". I think "automatic" combo breakers generate more frustration because the attacker does not feel like they can control the situation, or that they will inevitably have to just eat the CB to be able to play the game the way they want to. It is very clear when Burst is available, and it doesn't regenerate particularly quickly. So you're probably only dealing with it once a round most of the time and it is really obvious when it is on the table. Burst has always been in GG. I think there is a lot to be said for player expectations based on legacy (look at SF for example) so if you're sitting down to play GG you know Burst is a thing. Adding CBs to other games can feel a lot more disruptive (even if that entry was totally designed around it) to legacy players because they don't have that association built in. CBs are an interesting thing to consider but I think hitting the balance on them is difficult. Hell if you look at NRS they're still trying to find a breaker system they like and they are 3 iterations in (4 if you count Injustice). As games have slowly grown more combo heavy I think it is natural to try to consider things like CBs as a way to keep the game from becoming a 1 player exercise, but I feel like a fair number of systems I've run into feel sort of tacked on in a way that doesn't make anyone happy.

tldr: Burst is nifty and continues to be. Just let ArcSys make all future games. 🙃

Trying to make myself play some ranked even though it makes me anxious, and just fought an Akira who did the heavy rush punch at 99 seconds round start every single time. Every. Single. Time.

I blocked and punished the first time, because I thought a random silver Akira might do that. Got hit the second time because I didn't think he'd do it again. Then I neutral jumped and full combo punished it the next 6 rounds straight.

Dude had full Akira launcher combos and Daigo set-ups, but never stopped doing that. Ranked is wild, man.

Got to celestial for the first time. What a good birthday. It seems I do git gud if I'm allowed to play games all day.

Not gud enough to hang with a level 1000 Faust who's name is incomprehensible Asia heiroglyphics, but still pretty gud.

Now I'm ready to main Jack-O, for a week.

Finally got time to play, and I had to restart the game no less than 4 times in an hour.  Every rank update, every transition from MM Training mode to lobby, every time.  Then on the final go around the title screen decided to take so long to séance with  the dying server I just noped out. I ranked up to 10th but still don't feel like trying to fight for a chance to fight someone.

Forget the balance patch, I want a menu patch.

After being in three online tournaments, my overall view of the mode is positive. The biggest con, besides the obvious, is spectating is sketch. However all the matches are played the same time, so if you are playing in the tournament it doesn't really effect you that much. Sucks for people on Twitch though.

So after an evening with Akira (not like that, call off the FBI), these are my initial impressions:

    Pros:
    - high damage output, even compared to the SFV average, particularly if you spend a bar or more
    - solid set of V-Skills
    - good AA options for far jump-ins
    - excellent corner carry (just end your first confirmed combo with heavy elbow and the opponent's cornered)
    - [subjective] lots of different combo routes that prevent her from feeling as "dry" as someone like Cammy or Karin, the "standing or not standing" thing is particularly interesting

    Neutral:
    - this is mostly due to inexperience, but it can be hard to get value out of V-Trigger 1 IMO
    - close jump-ins and cross-ups can be a bit tricky to deal with, but air grab is a good option

    Bad:
    - awful range on most normals, and the only long-range pokes she has (HK, f.HP) lead into nothing on normal hit and are punishable if spaced incorrectly
    - throw range feels poor, you almost have to clip into the opponent's character model for her to reach them
    - not a lot of options from light confirms if you're using V-Skill 1
    - zero tools to bypass fireballs (she's kind of a SFV unicorn in that regard)

Overall I like her and she's really fun to play but I doubt she's going to shake up the meta in any way. For a Karin-like archetype she lacks the buttons to confirm from ranges other characters can and if you run into someone like Poison, Sim, Menat or Falke you're just screwed, and even the likes of Chun and Guile can just straight up keep you out of your effective range without too much trouble. V-Trigger 2 might be the better one in the long run as it allows her to confirm from her longer buttons into good damage and corner carry but optimising it is really hard with the stance cancels. Definitely something I'll never reliably pull off as I'm awful at stuff like that. Daigo looks good for twitter mixups but so far I've mostly used him to cover my approach against characters that keep me out which seems like a waste of V-Gauge.

I haven't tried Oro and probably won't in the near future, but I think he's the character to watch out for from this update. It'll take a specialist like Xian to make him shine though and he's (unsurprisingly) the less popular pick among the two new characters online right now because he's way harder to wrap your head around and not a cute little girl.

After an hour with Akira I'm going to say V-Skill 1 is the way to go. Instant air EX fireball is absolutely disgusting if powered-up and leads to an easy 358/500 combo. There's also no height restriction so it's not like Chun's IALL where you have to get the muscle memory for it. Just do 2369 and watch the opponent's tech get blown up like it's a Micheal Bay movie. It's -10 if blocked though, so keep that in mind.

V-Triggers the jury's still out but I will use Daigo because screw all these "in between" inputs of Trigger II. I'm not going to say how long it took me to finish her last trial but it made up the majority of the hour I spent with her.

Now to try her in a match, which will probably be Bison, which will probably make me hate this game again.

I think there's something to playing those Konami beat em ups in a noisy arcade that smells like fried food where you're slapping the shit out of the buttons that doesn't translate as well when you play them in other places.

Hey all, worked more on my Blender and Unreal Engine skills. Actually learned quite a bit lately in UE5. It has a super good SDK for creating environments ( brings me back to the days when i made C.S. maps )  and some starter kit for game developing.

I worked more on my Cyberpunk Juri wallpapers and future animation to the point that i am considering importing her model to Unreal Engine from Blender 3D and using it to have a free roam  / mini racing game with Juri. I'm gonna  try my best to do this.

Regardless, here is what i managed to make so far.

As far as I know the logic behind ArcSys' rebalancing is inscrutable, one would need Daisuke's Vision in order to discern it.

Ram has some problems opening people up, I feel that giving her a command grab would be ideal to improve her close range abilities.

Give her that and I'm pretty sure she will finally be viable.

The official burger-sheriff tie in is great. It definitely feels like a player nod but hey maybe they do have deep lore built out for burger-sheriff and his extended family. I'd love to think back in Xrd when they were designing backgrounds they were like "See that guy? His brother is gonna be the Secretary of Absolute Defense."

The patch seems like its going to do what most people want: tune-up underperforming stuff and not necessarily just hammer on all the good stuff. We'll see the particulars in a few weeks. Everyone get your Sol matches in during the interim just in case!
