    (Long post.)

So I don’t talk about him much but my Brother In-Law is a disabled veteran. He got blown to shit twice in Iraq. He’s 100% fine mentally and physically except for he developed chronic migraine syndrome.

He’s dealt with it for over 10 years and it was the reason he had to be medically discharged from the army. We actually met as he was in the process of being discharged.

His headaches can be anywhere from a slight annoyance to debilitating. There were days where he’d be in so much pain he’d pass out from it. Or couldn’t get out of bed. Or constantly vomiting. Imagine now having a toddler and trying to deal with this. Cause that’s exactly what’s going on.

Since it all happened he’s tried everything he can to find some relief from his condition. Which unfortunately under  the scope of medicine is very little because he’s allergic to the common ingredient in pain killers (the name escapes me). So he’s tried higher caffein intake, meditating, acupuncture, Botox, the list goes on.

He ended up seeing a head trauma doctor last Saturday. He recommended a specialist for my BIL to visit. As soon as my BIL listed the symptoms the specialist knew exactly what the issue was. He just needed to run a test to confirm. So they did that today.

Turns out due to being blown to shit twice in Iraq the impact from them caused 3 leaks in his spinal cord and the fluid has been flowing through his brain and certain parts of his brain. It’s why the headaches are never ending and have different levels of severity.

Well, the doctor said this is actually 100% treatable. So on Monday he’s going in for a small spinal surgery. What they’re going to do is draw blood from him and then reintroduce the blood in a way that makes non-lethal blood clots to stop the leaks. If it works my BIL should see instantaneous results and should be free of this fucking nightmare.

He’ll just get the normal headaches and migraines we all do when dealing with toddlers. Lol

When he told me all this over the phone I had to hold back crying until we got off the phone. He’s one of my best friends and considered him a brother way before I ever introduced him to my sister.

    Fingers crossed.

@Mattatsuet all, I'd be up for firing up Rev 2 again. GG still calls to me. If we want to try getting something together for the weekend I can give that a shot depending on how things shake out.

@FlyingVeTonight is 50/50 for KI. Literally waiting to hear back about plans, my favorite thing. If things don't work out I should be around.

Also for anyone looking for KI resources this is one of the most thorough websites put together for any game:

    https://ki.infil.net/

Another way to think about combos in KI is that they are a combination of combos and a mix up scenario. It can be a weird adjustment because we are so used to combos being "I do a thing" time, but its closer to an extended pressure sequence that has mounting damage potential.

I personally really like the interaction because it can really reward you for paying attention to your opponent's tendencies. Landing a counter breaker is one of the most satisfying things in any FG ever.

Everyone goes through the standard process here.

Verbal Warning >> System Warning / Temp Ban >> Obliteration

I try to be fair to everyone, no matter who they are.  Once the hard ban kicks in it is very unlikely it will ever be removed.  The vote that was made earlier definitely matters, and has been taken into account.

I am trying to be patient and give people a chance here.  Angel on the other hand...

Don’t think to much about the terms, all an “opener” really denotes is the point at which the “real combo” starts and thus a combo breaker is an option.

Edit: to add to @GetTheTablescomment. The big difference is that combos in KI are not canned. You don’t learn a specific combo (with some exceptions), but instead learn how to combo in general.

I like it a lot because it rewards lab time without over rewarding rote memorization.

I have zero faith in Capcom working on anything not SF5 S5 or SF6. SF5 worked out financially due to its long tail but MH/RE are what keep Capcom's lights on now so all actual resources are going to go to those teams. At this point I'd assume they are just trying to shore things up so that SF5's final season plugs along, and that SF6 come out in a better state than SF5 did.

I'd absolutely love to be wrong, and I'd love to be even more wrong and see the impossible dream of a good, new Vs game come out. But I feel like Capcom is going into FG maintenance mode for the foreseeable future.

Also @FlyingVe: got KI set up yesterday. Mercifully easy to get up and running, especially once I realized the hitbox had a PC switch. And so far as I can tell I have everything. I have absolutely lost whatever muscle memory I had with this game, though my time with SF5 did help me hit manuals more easily. 🙂

I've heard rumors the guy was pushed out and is difficult to work with. Also, that he had a chunk of SF6 already made under his watch and it sucked, which was a big reason they asked him to leave.

    This is all hearsay tho.

Yup. If they have any other fight game related stuff, it'll be more cards for teppen or some other mobile release. It would be cool if they started added rollback to old games like ASW and SNK is doing, but I get the feeling that they aren't looking to use any of their fighter IPs for an actual fighting game for a looooong time. Probably will depend on how well SF6 does, and maybe even how well Strive does with Rollback

See I don't even lump that in with comeback mechanics. In my head its actually the best "combo breaker" mechanic ever implemented with some extra flexibility. But I get your point.

I guess technically the best comeback mechanic is a well implemented super move system. You build up resources during the match, usually at least partially by getting whumped, and at some point you can cash it out for a big, round shifting effect. But its limited, possibly conflicts with other mechanics (forcing mid-round choices), and isn't something you are seeing more than once a round (give or take, some games handle this in different ways like KoF or Marvel).

I guess that’s kinda the thing, when it’s done well it doesn’t “feel” like a comeback mechanic at all.

Part of the reason we identify them in other games is because of how bolted on and heavy handed they are.

Really, I think that’s what a good comeback mechanic is, a good defensive mechanic. Burst gaurentees (with limits) you won’t get shut out of a match, and acts as a one time buffer for more risky options. RC works in much the same way.

Edit: I don’t think super bars really came into their own until SF3. In ST they are once a round Hail Mary moves not unlike ultras, and they didn’t change much until SF3. With the important distinction that you were not guaranteed to be able to build a super. The addition of EX moves made super a true resource fully integrated into the match. Other games expanded on this (see RC).
