intimigator Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 More than likely, it will be between 1-3 people who will use or care about this thread at most. Still, I thought the thread would be worth creating as an entry point to keyboards. Feel free to post about your mechanical keyboards here, and ask questions about the space and how to improve your setup! Currently, I am rocking linear switches on a polycarbonate plate for that creamy sound profile, and I'm practicing speed typing. I started this week off with 60 wpm, and with some tweaks and a little bit of qualitative practice, I have bumped it up to a consistent 100+ wpm, with minor typos keeping me in the high 80s+. When I get typo free trials done on Monkeytype, I am usually at 100+, which I think is good. It looks like that's where the top 25% of typists are that aren't stenographers, and I feel as though that is pretty good. I know that 90 is considered fast, and that I have to break 150 wpm to even consider applying for speed typing contests, but I am happy in knowing that I beat most people on TypeRacer and that I am consistently improving! Post your stuff! Quote
hanzohattori12 Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Learned to touch type back in middle school on the good old Apple Macintosh. I was never fast, but the muscle memory has always stuck with me. A few months back, I decided to buy the Paradigm Keyboarding books in order to get my skills up, as well as a brand spanking new MX Mechanical (Clicky) keyboard, and a Flexispot standing desk/office chair/file cabinet combo. Getting up to the 70-80wpm range is the goal for me. intimigator 1 Quote
intimigator Posted August 30, 2024 Author Posted August 30, 2024 Learning touch typing is hard. I’m at 20 wpm with it at the moment. Quote
intimigator Posted September 1, 2024 Author Posted September 1, 2024 I've all but finished my 40% ortholinear build. I reprogrammed it through QMK. The keycaps arrive in two days, and I look forward to installing them. hanzohattori12 1 Quote
intimigator Posted September 5, 2024 Author Posted September 5, 2024 (edited) The build is complete! For my next project, I'll hopefully be making a PCB from scratch, then the chassis through machined aluminum, then injection molding a polycarbonate plate, then working on smaller items for the keyboard. I'll be making a keyboard from scratch! Edited September 6, 2024 by intimigator hanzohattori12 1 Quote

intimigator Posted October 3, 2024 Author Posted October 3, 2024 My wpm has jumped dramatically. I use my ThinkPad keyboard the most because I'm in class most of the time, but it feels incredible. Training has paid off too! hanzohattori12 1 Quote

I have two T440p’s, a T540p, and a W540, but I’m looking into getting one from the P50 series. Excellent keyboards overall. intimigator 1 Quote
