As you know, I'm evangelical. This is nothing that I have ever hidden, nor should hide.


On the other hand, while I'm more than happy to give some insight based on a religious person's perspective about things, I do not force my beliefs on anyone, nor like arguing about it because it only ends up in messy situations like this.

 

Sadly, this is not the first time my religion actually turns into a talking point.

 

The first time was quite frankly my mistake.

 

Pertho did a dumb religious joke, I caught feelings over it. It's one thing to dislike a joke and it's another to turn it into a discussion. I went overboard, and later we talked about it, it's all good.


Naturally, since it happened on a public thread, and pretty much everyone in it moved here, I gotta make a public apology over it.

 

The others didn't go as bad, including the one on my birthday thread since the person responsible apologized and it seemed to be an honest mistake.

 

So, considering I usually jump the gun when my religion is brought up in a disrespectful way, I decided to just back off and cool down after what happened and re-read things later.

 

Then I noticed the full weight of Martian's post.

 

Some context is needed for those who don't hang in the SFV Lounge.

 

@AriesWarlock does these history of metal essays frequently. Like, at least once per week.

 

I've never said a word about them.

 

When he posted that one here, I didn't downvote him or added any reactions to it. I just made a quick thoughtless joke to let him know there was a Metal thread here. As I usually do when I'm not serious,  I added a laughing emote at the end.

 

Now that it's established that I didn't censor Aries, let's take a look at Martian.

 

I had no sort of beef with him. Never did. Most of the time I treat everyone with love and respect. Especially in the SFV Lounge.

 

And even if I do get heated with someone, I make a point to not take things to a personal level. I may call you names, but telling someone he's an idiot isn't a personal thing.

 

So let's re-read Martian's post.

This dude brought up how I talk, how I'm a degenerate, and my religion into the mix. Without any provocation.

 

Naturally, I got jumped over it. Some posts were more malicious, some were less malicious, but I wanted to address the root of the problem. That post.

 

As someone who has been wrestling with depression for a long time now, I've grown to appreciate the moments where I'm genuinely happy.

 

The moving here was one of these. Sure, what happened to Pertho was messed up, but we managed to pull together as a community and support him. We're in a place with great leadership where our voices and opinions matter.

 

What was left of SRK can't even be compared to how great this place is. I was seeing people just spontaneously talk about how nice Megashock is and how there's a whole "good vibes, good times" feel to the place.

 

And that was cut off from me because Martian randomly decided to throw a dagger at my neck.

 

So now I have to say something that honestly should be common sense.

 

In 4/5 years in SRK, my religion only turned into a talking point twice. It's not something I bring up for jokes.

 

Therefore, do not bring up personal topics as points for whatever goofy argument you want to make.

If you actually felt attacked over that that, I don't know what to say to you. It was a joke dude. A pretty tame one at that. We poke fun at each other for all sorts of reasons here, I really don't see how you can go and cherry pick that one post and put a stake in the ground over it while keeping a straight face. 

 

Like seriously, wtf? I could care less whether you're Christian or not. Believe what you want and I'll fully support your right to believe it. I can't belive I have to even say this shit.

oh and speaking of Britney's Toxic--- that was indeed one of her best songs, imo... heh, I still have that shit in my music collection now, actually.  There was another one titled "Gasoline" I enjoy as well...currently, both actually seem like they would be perfect background for a Bayonetta combo video....at least excerpts of them; I probably would not make it the whole song in either case.

Also listen to the "First Four Years" and "Everything went black" compliations. Those contain most of the material from the Earlier years of Black Flag with their pre-Rollins vocalists: Keith Morris(vocalist of the circle jerks), Dez Cadena, and Ron Reyes .  "Damaged", "My War", and "Slip it in" are the best records from the Rollins years.

You guys realize the whole point behind Volt's post was that religion was private for him, didn't mean to bring it up, and didn't really want to get into conversations about his faith here because it has f- all to do with anything, right?

 

Obviously faith is personal to him and the guy is literally doing the opposite of Cisco which is wanting to keep it out of the forums.

This is not SRK.  I'm sure we can handle simple things like this as reasonable adults.  It's all water under the bridge now, yeah?

Why i understand the sentiment.

What happens if people want sto talk about something related to religion?

Outside some specific posts, most of them have been jokes that have not targeted volt specifically, neither have quoted him, or have @ him, so in essence, no one has been trying to rile him up.

 

Given the nature of an open forum, everyone will inevitably find a post or number of posts that will touch a subject that he/she personally finds touchy.

You say that we can manage this as reasonable adults, but that also means that one should have the thick skin to not allow that what some random says on the internet affects you.

 

Otherwise, everyone will be here trying to avoid hurting feelings because everyone needs protection when someone says some mean shit, be real or just perceived due lack of self control over what to say it in a way, triggers them.

This is true, and Volt should now be aware not everything is targeted directly at him.

I like volt, and in repect to him, which is why i wouldnt make jokes directed at him.

But all this "drama" was a non issue to begin with.

If he is catching feeling over nothing, then he needs to reevaluate himself, because that is not healthy at all.

 

He cant be going in life getting butthurt at everything.

Agree, but at the same time, i have been battling with severe dpression as well for 2+ decades and you dont see me getting butthurt because random shit was said and i didnt like it.

You cant allow every external factor to be something that affects you.

That was Phantom, lol.  It became a meme because it's literally his real name. 

 

He made a random post in SRK GD like last month. I also played DBZ with him not too long ago. I think he mainly chills in the Barcelona Discord.

You know, one of the main problems is that many of Marx ideas are more in the realm of philosophy and on in the realm of practicality.

As someone who has read both books (My father is an economist, and since a kid he has taught me a lot of it), i feel that both sides heavily misunderstand his postulates.

 

Much of his ideas are not really meant to be applied at macro level.

Since one of the major problems that he even adresses is that human nature will always lead to the corruption of said ideals, hence when you see it in practice you see how it always ends in dictatorships.

The Beatles are overrated until you realize that they were the first major self contained rock band that wrote and performed all their own songs. Basically every band after them owes them a debt at least for that.

"Smart" might be a bit strong of a word for me but, people (especially kids) definitely have expectations about the way you'll carry yourself just by your skin color. 

 

Being mixed like me might even be arguably worse. I don't remember who said it, but "Too white for the black dudes and too black for the white dudes" has kinda been a common sentiment in my life. 🤣

I'm not even mixed though. It's like damn man. What is wrong with using proper English? Life got a little easier when I started subconsciously changing how I spoke depending on who I was around.

Yeah you and I are of the same mind on that. I've read enough history and listened to enough accounts of people who fled communist/socialist countries to see the effect the philosophy has. I get that Marxism is just the theory of it, but Marx is like th L.Ron Hubbard of the philosophy set writing shit that probably was not meant to be taken that seriously, but then people do...
