I wasn't going to snag one, but if no one bites I'll take it. I have a first gen Switch. I'm not into the mod scene but I'm curious. I remember MVG overclocking his first gen Switch and getting the Witcher to run at 60fps.

Okay cool I will let you know.

I also have a launch unit that is moddable that I plan on actually selling since it's more valuable lol.  I should be able to almost cover the cost of the OLED by selling it.

And of course since some Smash fans can’t be happy, they are now talking about which is the worst reveal we have gotten. Glad we’re done with this shit.

While I don’t personally care about Sora or Kingdom Hearts in general, I know his inclusion made a lot of people happy and it was a great way to end Smash Ultimate.

Following the series for so long, it’s a little sad to see it possibly end. But I had a blast all the way through.

I like the X-Men vs SF handshake look alike.

Tetris Effect is live. Switch might be my favorite console ever not just because it's a hybrid, but because there's such a huge cross section of games for it. When I had a DS, it felt like there were too many anime/kid games but with the Switch, you get stuff like MK and SamSho but also the Nintendo franchises, and now it's basically the ultimate Tetris console with TE:C being released. All I'd need is TGM2 and it really would be the greatest console ever for Tetris.

yeah, some people need time for some odd reason before they say something is GOAT status, but it's already safe to declare Switch as exactly that, imo... I've been having way more fun with this system than just about every other game system I've ever owned.   I like to recognize legend status *while* it's still going on, instead of looking back.  Whatever you're into, Switch has it, basically....and with that bonus of being portable.  At least until the Steam Deck shows up, nothing else out there is fuckin with it.  Out of the Nintendo family of systems, it's an easy #1 of all time there for sure.  The only weak link in the armor is the joycon problem, really.

Seriously, folks---just the other day I was sitting in the waiting room at the dentist office.  The wait was going to be a while so I took out the Switch... *bam* just like that I have 80-something games to pick from, right there in my hands at the dentist office...many of them being my favorite games of all time, like the Bayonetta games and Vampyr, Actraiser now, Kingdoms of Amalur, etc. etc..  You can't do that with the other systems of today.  What else is fuckin with that?  NOTHIN'.

@Hawkingbirdyou played Tokyo Mirage Sessions right? I just finished up Ni No Kuni and was thinking of starting in a few days. Any tips or advice?

Treat it like a SMT game. Most of the game's battle system heavily borrows from it (not a surprise considering Altus made it) exploiting enemy weaknesses and status affects are your friend, especially for boss battles.

Always carry some elemental stones on you in the event your party members don't have the element that the enemy is weak to.

When you get session skills find a way to combo them. You can make short order of strong enemies that way.

Always go into boss fights with full SP. SP attacks are like the all out attacks of the game and help build meter for session skills. It helps you start the fight strong.

Just finished Astral Chain. I was pleasantly surprised at how deep the combat can get once you let your imagination run with it. For what ever reason, I kept thinking that I could only use one Legion at once. Then remember that the Platinum-Based Gods don't give players limits 🤣

Note - To whoever is doing the soundtracks on Platinum's titles, please keep it up. I was impressed.

Astral Chain impressed the shit put of me. They really made controlling two characters at the same time work, and then yea you start throwing in the Legion Hot Swapping and it's a fucking wrap. The tag team combos you can do in this game are fucking wild and fun as he'll. When they did the Astral Chain fake out in the Bayo 3 trailer I wasn't even mad cuz I was like "Oh dope I loved Astral Chain" lmao. That shit was a win for me either way lol.

Glad you liked it man. I think it's their best new IP.

I hope we get a sequel with Platinum involved again although while I would like to play it sooner rather then later, I sort of hope it is after a Switch model comes out with hopefully better lasting controls. I got the 8Bitdo and it is working perfectly but I am taking it easy on it only using it for certain games or days while using my drift happy one for longer play sessions or games where a few stray movements or camera angles aren't going to kill me on accident or it isn't as big of a deal if it does.

Went yesterday and paid off my copy of Pokemon Arceus. Combined with the double pack coming out next month, I think I'm pretty much set through the holidays as far as games go; plus I have a extensive backlog of games to tackle. I do have plans to buy the Tiger Heli collection next month, since that's the next M2 Shot Triggers port; but other than that I'm pretty much set.

Well, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company made my decision for me about the Gen 4 remakes. Just like in Sword and Shield EXP Share is activated at the beginning of the game and cannot be turned off in anyway.

Which means I will not be getting it. XP Share isn’t a bad mechanic at its core. It’s been around since Gen 1 but up until Sword//Shield there was always an option to not have it in your inventory or turn XP share off. Now it’s a universal mechanic that is forced on you for no real reason.

Feels bad

What exactly is wrong with it? I've only played Pokemon a few times and didn't know that was a feature you could turn off so not even sure how it impacts the game.

it basically kills any incentive to swap out or experiment with teams as you’re going through the game. It essentially bring the difficulty of the game down to 0.

it also makes the competitive Pokémon harder to build because the abridged explanation is certain Pokémon you battle help certain stats raise faster when you beat them. The XP Share spreads that stat raise to every Pokémon instead of just the one battling. Which fucks up the value spread.
(though sword and shield helped make this no where near as complicated it’s still an integral part of the game)

Huh, I have lost track of playing the newer games for a while now, but I thought the Exp Share only applies to the Pokemon you got in your current team, it hits all of them even in the box now?

No. It hits the entire time still. But the EV spread also goes to the whole team.

To some extent, it is, but more because of external factors, namely the Exp. Groups.

To put it simply for those unaware, there are like, 6 different formulas dictating how much exp. a Pokémon needs to level up, one for each group. The variance is so extreme that even at the very beginning of the game, you can see mons that need twice as much exp. per level.

Now pair that up with Share not scaling the exp gain to level every mon equally and the result is a goddamn mess because some mons will get no play because they level up too fast and some mons will get too much because otherwise they fall behind.

Ironically, it also fails horribly at its intended purpose of helping a weaker mon catch up simply because everyone else is still getting exp so the gap takes forever to close.

What made me pretty much quit the franchise outright was the reveal that the Platinum Expansion Dex mons seem to be locked to the new Grand Underground feature and that encounter tables are still based on the original Diamond and Pearl.

To give an idea of how atrocious those were, DP had a Fire-Type specialist in the Elite 4.

Said specialist only had 2 Fire-types out of 5 mons in his team because there weren't enough Fire mons in the game.

I shit you not.

Game Freak unironically looked at this and said "Working as intended, ship the game."

In other, thankfully non-embarrassing, news Nintendo flooded the streets with crack.

Metroid Dread is probably the GOTY and if not, it's definitely in the mix.

Yes.

This is tied as my favorite game on Switch with Mario Odyssey.  It obviously won't have the lasting appeal due to the nature of the game, but god damn it's incredible.  It is very hard to put it down.  The level design is unmatched in any other game it's just so perfect.  I love that it's not easy and there is no hand holding, but the game guides you where to go due to the incredible level design.

Such an amazing game.  I am really surprised how little I've heard people talking about it on random forums I frequent.  I am steering clear of the Metroid thread on here until I finish it.

Oh, but it does...

The replayability, the ways people are just cracking that game open, the animations and the personality that oozes out of every inch of that game are damn near Masterpiece-tier and the single reason I don't call it one right now is that it needs to stand the test of time for that.

But honestly, right now? Zero Mission can't hold a candle to that game despite how incredible that game is, and frankly, Dread is the top dog in the Metroid franchise rn. Number one. Uncontested.

Well I haven't finished the game yet so I can't REALLY comment on lasting appeal, and please don't spoil if there is more after you beat it, but I was referring to how after you beat Odyssey with 450 moons or whatever it was, it opened up like 450 more moons and then all of those extra places to go and what not.    I was assuming there was nothing like that just due to the nature of the game and how it progresses.  I do definitely want to get all of the items and stuff though.

As someone who completed the game all you get is hard mode. I'm currently doing a hard mode run so I don't know if there's any additional if I finish that. I wish this game had a boss rush mode.

Hot damn, do I really want to play N64 that much.

At $50 a year for this, NSO is now (in my eyes) up there with Playstation Plus and Game Pass Ultimate from XBox; and it was decidedly easy to not buy into this bullshit. Yes, I'd love to play Gunstar Heroes; but I'm not paying a year up front if I'm not gonna use the service on a regular basis (outside of having cloud saves/getting circle camped in Smash Ultimate).

$50 is way too god damn much. Plus why isn’t there a tier w/o the animal crossing DLC? I don’t give a shit about Animal Crossing. It should be an optional add-on.

The price should only have been increased by about $5-10usd. The fact they raised it $30 is absolutely bonkers.

If they decide to add more stand alone DLC packs as compliments to NSO than I could see the justification. But as of now? Hell no.

I'm not ready to call it the best yet, but it's deffinitly really really good. A high tier Metroid for sure.

Dread thread has been good about not dumping spoilers but don't blame you for just wanting to finish it first.

Prime to me is the best Metroid...because they did what was to me impossible. Make a 3D first person adventure game while keeping the spirit of Metroid in tact.

Yeah I give zero fucks about Animal Crossing. I thought it would be $35 to $40 at most.

Honestly if it was a $5, $10, or even $15 increase I feel like they would've mentioned it in the original direct. I knew it would be double or more since they avoided talking about it.

As for Animal Crossing, I kind of hope that the more expensive pass has Nintendo's future DLC be free or cost less.

So I just tried to connect my wireless headphones directly to my OLED Switch for the first time, and Nintendo still can't get this shit right.  Whatever codec they are using is laggy as fuck.  When I got these earbuds with my Genki adapter years ago I got them SPECIFICALLY because they used the latest lagless codec.

I was hoping I could get rid of my Genki but it looks like I won't be able to now...

EDIT:

Just tried the Genki adapter and works fine with no lag, as expected.
