RegH81 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 I'm trying to beat OG Castlevania for the first time. Stage 3 is the first stage to really give me trouble between the Medusa Heads, the Crows and the twin Mummies at the end. I've at long last discovered the broken combo that is III Multiplier and Holy Water. RSG3, Camacho, DoctaMario and 1 other 4 Quote

I've at long last discovered the broken combo that is III Multiplier and Holy Water. That section is a bitch. You can jump at the right time and whip the crows before they descend from their perches and then if you use the triple shot Holy Water, you can nuke the Bone Cannons and if any Medusa heads cross into the fire they'll die too. But the Medusa heads position is always in relation to where you are on the screen, so sometimes pausing before you get to the bone cannon until the Medusa appears and then moving forward towards the bone cannon is the best way to get through that. And as Camacho said, cheesing Death is a pretty good tip if you want to get through the game. 6 hours ago, RSG3 said: RotN came out in 2019. Only 6 years ago. A while still but not nearly a decade yet. Huh. Feels like the game has been out forever lol Edited October 8 by DoctaMario RegH81 1 Quote
RegH81 Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Probably a hot take, but I prefer some of the NES versions of Castlevania III's music over the FC version. ---- Hooded Edge's Castlevania covers are bangers. RSG3 and DoctaMario 2 Quote
Camacho Posted October 14 Posted October 14 I can't go back to NES cv3 after hearing the JP version. Quote

Agreed. In some of the FC versions there's almost too much going on and the different lines aren't different enough to not make it sound like a bit of a mess. Plus the NES version of Tower Of Terror is way way better. That's been one of my favorites since the game came out and the way they did it in the NES version was really incentive and cool. The FC version is almost disappointing in comparison. RSG3 and RegH81 2 Quote

There are some FC tracks that really do sound a bit better, but I feel like they really made the most of what they had to work with on a lot of them in the NES version. RegH81 1 Quote
RSG3 Posted October 16 Posted October 16 I think the Famicom version of the Zelda 1 theme is way worse then the NES version and it's because it's too busy, too much is going on. It sounds more regal on the NES, like the notes are holy and stand on their own, they don't need the back up. RegH81 and DoctaMario 1 1 Quote
RegH81 Posted October 17 Posted October 17 One of the things I hear most when it comes to NES soundtracks is how good they sound on the hardware given the limitations. Those limitations breeded a lot of creativity. But then some peeps find out about the extra sound channels the FC had and start meat riding that sucker and all of a sudden some NES soundtracks are worse for not having it. I think the worst of this I've seen is a rip of the Castlevania Anniversary Collection soundtrack. Whoever ripped it omitted the NES versions of Castlevania II and III's music. Most likely on some elitist BS reasoning that the JPN versions are the only stuff that matters. It is by far one of the most egregious things I've seen done for ripping game music.
