They were in their rights Def. But it was a all or nothing move and they didn't truly understand the ripple affects. They got scared of Napster and instead of seeing the future they wanted to keep the past.

Tech laws always take too long to change. They are never ahead of the game always always behind it.

Because the music performers didn't see the value in working with he changing times now the music companies are fucking them. This is why they get 5 cents per stream and the companies make all the fuckin money.

Tech and culture move faster than politics, it'll always be that way, especially with older folks running things. I get why they did what they did, for them, the future looked like nobody buying their record because afaik, the iTunes store hadn't opened yet.

There's less money in the music industry than there's ever been. Just like society itself, the winners are winning bigger than ever and everyone else is fighting for scraps. You could make a decent living easier, at least before the pandemic (in the old days if you couldn't get signed it was hard to have a career), but being a star is a longer shot than even winning the lottery these days.  Labels make money mainly on publishing and their interest in Spotify now that no one buys albums anymore. In a sense, metallica was right to fight it, but you can't fight the inevitable. If labels had gotten onboard with the file sharing thing sooner, the industry would have been healthier sooner, but they didn't, they used thE RIAA to sue people and did everything they could to try to stem the tide they created.

What do you do in the music industry? I know you got a degree and have done some studio work, but do you have a band and play out? Or, I guess did you before covid I should say lol. How has the pandemic effected your job?

I know I'm starving for live music right now haven't seen a show in over a year. And a lot of people in the industry are hurting, and not just the artists. Production crews, venues, roadies, etc. It takes a lot of personnel to put on a show and I imagine with no concerts in a year those folks who aren't the rich stars gotta be hurting pretty bad.

y'know, just the other day I was thinking for a moment of how cool it would be if we got a Symphony of the Night remake, still in 2d or 2.5 d with high-resolution visuals....how awesome that shit would be; I'd buy it day 1 especially with the upgraded visuals...

....but then I remembered which company happens to own the Castlevania IP.

you haven't played Bloodstained: ritual of the night yet have you?  It's worth the money and even if it isn't a direct remake, it's as good of a spiritual successor as has ever existed.

From what I've seen of it, the pace of action seems a bit slow for my taste... I'll have to look it up again.  Also, I would be interested in the Switch version if I ever got that...but I heard the Switch version runs poorly for some reason (which doesn't make much sense since it doesn't appear to be a graphically/RAM intense game...?)

I wish DF would have went back and did an update after they patched it cause the game runs fine now imo.  I didn't play it before the patches that went out but I saw DF's video pre patch and it at least runs pretty close to 30 fps consistently.  There's only a few areas where the performance tanks from what I've played mostly being any outside area that breaks the 2d plane.  Of course the game has to make graphical concessions which is to be expected but it's not that bad really especially if you prefer to take the game on the go.

This video was put up in January that has the most recent comparison.

And here's some gameplay footage of the game on Switch running on the 1.17 patch from August.

I have thought about it, too. A remaster of the game would be so welcomed. I don't know what the hell Konami is doing lately. Selling yugi-oh cards and shit.

But yeah, get Bloodstained. You'd be a fool not to!!

This is random, but I wanted to kinda poll here:

What series fell way the fuck off to you guys? As in, you used to love it, but can't even really look at it now.

Over the weekend, I tried playing the latest two Call of Duties (MW2019 and Cold War). MW2019 was being its usual shitty self, so I could only tolerate 2 games. Cold War was the definition of aight, so I dropped that too. I figured I might as well take my chances in Black Ops 3. I say "take my chances" because BO3 has hackers now who go invisible and/or have every specialist ability. I took my chances and was actually having fun before one of those fucktards showed up to my lobby.

That's when it hit me: the only reason I'm even giving the latest CODs a chance is because I like the formula in general and the last one I liked was dead even before being infected with hackers. I bought the latest games used specifically because I refused to give the devs my money in case I felt like a sucker for buying them (which I did). I don't know which is more sad: that the games got to this status (ranging from "aight" to terrible), or that I still hang on. But it's clear I'm running on fumes with this series now.

But enough from me. What series fell off big for you guys?

Kingdom Hearts

But honestly, I don't know if it fell off, or I just grew up. KH was the coolest shit to me at 12, but at 27 when KH3 dropped, not a single thing about it excited me. Doesn't help that it's story was needlessly obtuse by the end. KH3 might be the best one, but I played through KH3D in 2018, and that game kinda sucked, but then I started playing Brith By Sleep (which is supposed to be one of the best ones iirc) and it also wasn't very fun.

Also, Metal Gear.

MGSV is a great game on paper, and I think it's good. But it doesn't feel like a MGS game to me and was disappointing as a result.

Controversial: Street Fighter.

I loved 2,alpha,and 3. Didn't care for 4 ,but it's a better product than 5.

5 had potential but is a shit product at launch.

I don't know if it has improved after 5 years. I may get ultra 5 (or whatever the final version will be called) and see if I like it better.

Shenmue. 3 was crap. Even if somehow they make a 4, I'm done. Playing the Yakuza series showed that Shenmue walked so that Yakuza could run.

Arkham series. Arkham Knight was very disappointing. I loved Asylum and City, but Knight had too much batmobile stuff. You couldn't get the real ending unless you did all the Riddler stuff. Boss Fights were underwhelming. They built the Knight's identity into some grand reveal, yet even a casual Batman scrub like me knew it would be Red Hood early on.

I'm a producer, have been since 2013. I was a touring artist before that but I got tired of being on the road and started doing the production thing and have been doing that ever since. I have a lot of friends who are touring musicians that are hurting although one of them is taking this opportunity to start doing different things too. Depending on where you are there's live music around. I think they've opened up the bars downtown, and I'm actually playing at a hotel tonight, first time in awhile, so I'm gonna be rusty af lol

Me personally, I think 2020 might have been the best year I've had business wise though.

That's good to hear, man.  I actually did OK, too, all things considered. Saved a lot of money working from home and not having to drive to work everyday.  Of course that all went to my wife's medical bills and a bunch of baby stuff.

A couple of the guys I play with in my bluegrass band are older and one especially is high risk, so I haven't gotten to play with other people a whole lot.  I'm hoping that changes soon as more vaccines roll out in my state. It'd be nice to play out again. Have fun at the gig tonight, I envy that shit!

Yeah I'm fortunate a lot of my work is fairly solitary but I only have a few clients I see in person and for the most part, they're careful. That's good you got to stockpile some cash too, babies are damn expensive lol!

That's a bummer about not being able to jam, tbh it's rare when I get to do that myself, usually only when I'm home and my dad and I play. I will man, they're fun social times and I definitely miss doing them.

Damn daft punk broke up. This is the darkest timeline. Also you shouldt be allowed to breakup to a song that makes me immediately want a new album

Well at least that track is on Random Access Memories.

They'll both keep making music, I'm sure. At the very least collaborating with  people occasionally. I'm thinking they're just over touring and putting so much into daft punk projects. I guess Thomas has had hearing issues for the last 20 years and touring really messes with that. Guy is a recluse anyway and is the reason they wear the masks iirc, so he's probably ready to just chill at home after this pandemic.

I think they're just ready to retire. Good for them for recognizing it.

I figure this is them just saying "We're never putting out another album."

Retiring isn't definitive. You can always come back from retirement. As well as you can always come back from a breakup.

That’s not what I meant by definitive. I meant that there is (usually) no Ill begotten reason they broke up. They just decided to stop making music.

breaking up implies something bad may have happened that caused the split.

I know I’m just arguing your version of semantics but retiring and breaking up aren’t the same thing to most.

when people hear “breaking up” they think “oh shit, what happened?!” With retirement it’s just “oh, they’re done making music”

sheeeittt, for me there's a few things coming to mind with this...

yep, Street Fighter.  Like most I loved SF2, then Champion Edition and Turbo/Hyper, etc... but actually I wasn't that interested in Super, since it was slow.  For me, slowing a game down is a step backwards.  Alpha caught my attention due to the new graphical style, but it was also kind of slow compared to the older ones I remember...but I still liked them.  I was back on board for part 3, again despite the relative slowness...then I was somewhat into part 4 and it stopped there for me.

Destroy All Humans - first one is one of my favorite old-era Xbox games of all time.. the 2nd one is pure garbage in every possible way.

Tv stuff:

Heroes - most fans probably agree, this show is a textbook example of a downward spiral.  It started off incredible, then degraded into a pile of crap a lot of people have forgotten at this point.

...and the best example that has been on my mind lately, as I watch it a 2nd time---The Strain tv series. --this one breaks my heart.  That first season was such gold...my only complaint was that the common vamps were a bit too weak for my taste, and the face of the "Master" looks kind of silly. (*I would've had the design feature solid black eyes, and smaller or non-existent lips so he looks even less human.)  I forgot when the downfall of this show started; it should be fun to point out the precise moment in a later post since I've been going thru it all again.  Later seasons still did have occasional cool stuff like anytime Quinlan did something....they should've made a spin-off series just about Quinlan in various time periods being a badass.

haha yeah it was hilarious how despised that kid was... that character is one of the most hated child characters in the history of television. 😆  If the show were more popular he'd show up on those lists people like to do on youtube vids of "Most hated characters.." etc.

...that's another thing that caught on big time in youtube-land that I found odd---"List" videos.  There's people that built their entire channel concept around just doing lists in video form, like "The Top 10 best shocking reveals in a game" or "8 Times a character did ___." etc.  It makes more sense than the "reaction" videos at least.

 Video Game Franchises that died:

James Bond.

Goldeneye basically kick started the Bond video game and we had some decent games in the early 2000's - Nightfire etc.

But it seemed to fall off during the middle of the Craig era.  The last Bond game was JB Legends in 2012. It got bad reviews.

X-men

The 90s was the best time to be a video game fan:

,x-men arade game (Konami), XMEN COTA, Xmen Mutant Apocalypse, Xmen (Genesis), Xmen 2 clone wars, Xmen vs SF, MVC2 (should really be called Xmen vs Capcom 2 given how many mutant chars are in it lol).

Even the 2000's had the X-men Legends 1 and 2(2 was arguably one of the best campaign games ever), The Origins Wolverine game by Raven.

However , due to Disney buying Marvel, it seems that put the kibosh on x-men games. the last one we had was 10 years - Xmen Destiny and was received poorly.

TMNT

I mostly played all the NEs/SNES era TMNT games by Konami from 1989-1993. I didnt play any of their 2000's games.

In 2013, I played the downloadable TMNT : Out of the Shadows game. It had an interesting combat system and team gameplay, but the graphics were mediocre and it was very glitchy!  I liked the TMNT in Injustice 2, but technically I cant call it a TMNT game lol.

haha, one place to NOT get into a fight---a bathroom.  Imagine being violently taken to the ground...in a public bathroom.  PISS and shit fragments have been on that floor, man. 😆 Nah..everyone should be cool with each other and just get out of there as fast as possible after doing your #1 or #2.  Usually, people aren't even speaking to each other in a bathroom in the first place....that's some weird shit if someone has something to say while you're in there.

Why are people still picking fight with wrestlers. Nearly two decades of ufc and people still aignt learned

lol seriously. Had a friend that was an NCAA division I wrestler. I had about 20 lbs on the dude, but he was as strong as an ox. One of the nicest dudes I'd ever known too, and always had my back. Got married to a co-worker and I remember the last time I talked to him was at the wedding. Hope he's still doing well.

hell yeah the snow and ice is mostly gone at this point.. so for the first time since 2 weekends ago I was able to get out and buy some stuff... the pizza craving was strong so I just went out to get that....sheeeeittt, I feel like I could eat 10 of those pizzas right now, all at once.  The stores must be packed at the moment, as people are finally able to get out and replenish their food/drink situation.

Other series/franchises that lost me...

For a while, the Turbo era killed Power Rangers for me.  It would not be until years later with Wild Force (*around 2002/03 I think) that I started watching it again.

The Hellraiser movie franchise---sad what happened here... the last one I have positive memories of is Hellraiser: Bloodlines, and apparently I'm one of the only people that liked that one.  I realize a new one is in the works, but it's one of those things where the guy who is known for playing Pinhead is SO crucial, it's hard to imagine anyone else ever playing this character...so when someone else inevitably shows up as "Pinhead"....that's going to be a tough sell.

Resident Evil - this series started to lose me at part 3...it just wasn't as interesting as RE2, actually...lately part 7 got my interest, and part 8 looks even better.

Inuyasha--yes, I actually watched this nonsense....but it would go on to become one of those anime shows I eventually gave up on, and now I look back on it with a generally negative opinion.  There's barely any action I can remember, and it defines new levels of an aimless, "meandering" series, where it often seems like even the writers forgot what the characters are supposed to ultimately be doing there.

Ooh yeah. The strange thing is that I would never say Knight is bad. But it is so disappointing that I have no interest in the series from here on out. Whatever the next game is would have to work HARD to win me back. And I'm seriously puzzling over whether I'm just dancing around the word "bad".

Couldn't find the first episode of Burn Notice on Youtube.  "In a fight, you have to be careful not to break the little bones in your hand on someone's face. Never happens in movies, but in real life a busted hand will get you killed. That's why I like bathrooms. Lots of hard surfaces."

whoah that was a weird dream....so, I dreamed about another new Ghostbusters film was already filmed and just hit the theaters, but this was a straight up remake of the original story, but certain shots were handled in a slightly different way... and one of my old friends was cast to play the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man form of the "Destroyer" god Zuul.  The final battle scene wasn't as thrilling as the original though, and they cut certain parts out....Bill Murray was there again as Dr. Venkman, and I guess they used the de-aging tech on him instead of just having a younger actor in the role.  As the movie ended, that was the end of my dream.

sheeeittt, now I feel like watching the movie; I got it on blu-ray a few months ago, actually.... a double-pack that included part 2.  haha I wouldn't have bought part 2 on its own though.

heh, checking instagram just then, I saw a pic where some girl I follow posed with a dude; the 2 of them sitting on the couch...the captioned mentioned them being "BFFs", and the guy looked a bit fruity... this reminded me once again that the "BFF" designation is another kiss of death for the new generation out there...just like back in the day if she referred to you as "like a brother", y'know...?  BFF status means you have clearly failed in the acquisition of this target, sadly.  You are in that infamous "Zone", probably with little to no hope of ever getting out of it, so it's probably best to move on to someone else.... Tom Leykis would probably say "you've become like her gay best friend, basically." 😆
