Guerilla games (Killzone) has the Horizon franchise. Insomniac Game (Resistance) has Spiderman. The last studio to work on SOCOM closed in 2012. They'll probably start from the ground up (if at all). 

 

Not saying that these couldn't come back but the first two of the newer franchises referenced have enough steam to power the money train.

Microsoft buying Activision means that any future Ceash Bandicoot will be exclusive to Xbox. The PlayStation* icon not being on a PS system anymore is a weird thing to say the least.

 

*I’m aware that Crash was never owned by Sony, but he has been heavily associated with the PlayStation since the beginning.

While this is true you also don’t want your second party games to churn out a sequel/spin off to the same games over and over and over again which is what several companies do, Nintendo included and it’s gross. 

Sony could easily bring back a lot of the franchises mentioned and more they have in their back pocket that they haven’t used in a while. 
 

Sony could also make some big acquisitions themselves if they could grab an Indy studio here and an Indy studio there. 
 

The issue Sony is facing is this though: Microsoft knows it heavily relies on the western consumers when it comes to the Xbox SEX, gamepass, etc. So all the companies they’ve been acquiring are basically in the wheel house of what M$ has always provided and what Xbox adopters want.  

 

Sony has all but abandoned their home market of Asia and keep trying to push into the western market with big first party epics like Last of Us, Horizon, Dad of War, etc. Which is fine and it’s working but imo it’s short sighted.
 

The more sony does this the more theyre going to drive away people who bought PlayStation hardware for how heavily they supported Japanese developers and publishers like they did from PSOne all the way up until early PS4 days (give or take a few years). If Sony doesn’t answer in kind whether it be with acquisitions of their own (not anything crazy, obviously), more new unique IP’s or reviving old ones there’s a chance M$ will blow right past them and Sony will be in last place. Which is odd for me to even type.

I was just coming to post about this.  On one hand Kotick is about to be forcibly pushed out of his job more than likely.  On the other hand to say that I don't like this in the long run is a pretty big understatement.  Xbox can't make their own IP's so they're just buying up companies regardless of their relationship with them.  Sony is going to have to just fight back with making more original IP's and deals like Forsaken.  If you also notice, the only thing M$ has been buying up is western companies (not including Tango that came with the purchase of Bethesda) cause I'm pretty sure most Japanese companies are reluctant to be bought out regardless of what money get dumped on the table.

i have always bought playstation for the japanese games and since recently they've basically thrown them under the bus in favor of cinematic third person games i can only wonder what's gonna happen now. nintendo's prob like wtf right now but other than that basically doesn't care since 3rd party support is whatever for most nintendo consoles

Nintendo's relationship with M$ is at a point that I wouldn't be surprised even when the contracts are up they would still put stuff like the Diablo and Overwatch franchises on the platform.  To be honest the Activision side of ActiBlizz has been pretty shit to Nintendo after the Wii so they aren't really missing much since they weren't getting much of anything from them in the first place.  The moment Nintendo made Splatoon, Activision suddenly stopped attempting to put CoD on their platforms.

If anyone is to buy Platinum like the ad talking about it should be Nintendo. They've supported P* since the first days of the Switch, they let them do whatever they want with their work, and they've even let them use crowd funding to port a Nintendo produced title to other platforms with Wonderful 101.

Which is why despite several bad years they still had a savings war chest they could rely on for emergency. I got the platinum trophy in Bloodborne tonight! Normally I don't really care about trophies or achievements but I'm proud of this one.
