Argued with a few people about this "It's not very good" to you, but enough people liked it enough to the point we are having this discussion because they are a large enough bunch of people, and kinda exposes how the Game Awards don't really represent what the actual game players played and talked about over the course of the year. Now we've all known this for a while, it's why I don't give a fuck about the awards, at all, but maybe the rest of the casual gamer population is realizing it a bit to.  

 

I mean not to dunk on Nintendo but Mario Wonder shouldn't even be Nommed, it just fucking came out lol.

Eh....I kind of disagree with this because it depends on what their cutoff date for nominations are.  If BG3 and Wonder were reversed in terms of released and everyone was singing the exact same praise that BG3 but at the dif release date then I think it should absolutely get nommed. 

 

Whatever their cut off date is unfortunate which is why personally I think the TGA's should be pushed back to at least  late Feb.  It gives the whole year a chance to release and gives at least 2 months for Dec games to marinate.  That would also give the show the time it needs to get everything together and start to finalize everything.

 

Edit:

Case in point when people were upset that Smash Ultimate showed up being nomed for the rewards of the previous year and the only reason why was because of whatever cutoff date they had.  It was weird seeing Smash Ult being nominated for anything for the year after when it came out the year before but I understood why.  Not everyone did though.

Some stats Mat Piscatella put up before I go into numbers

Highlights:  Spider-Man 2 took over for October.  The sales for that month instantly put it as the 4th best selling game of 2023 YTD.  Spiderman 2 exceeded Spiderman's sales by a double digit percentage.  SMB Wonder was the # 2 best selling game of October.  It is currently just outside of the top 20 YTD at #21 (again...this only considers physical).  Roblox got released and ended up getting ranked 4th in active users for Playstation's base (Circana has a new engagement tracker for Xbox, Playstation, and Steam ecosystems which you'll see numbers for later).  9 games that released last month popped up in the top 20...which is probably how MK8D got it's top 20 streak ended....Minecraft is still floating around though.

 

Hardware:  PS5 was the best selling hardware platform for both unit and dollar sales for Oct.  Xbox Series took 2nd for Dollar sales and then Switch shifted up to #2 for unit sales.

Dead Cells--- this run is insane right now... too bad I have no chance at the end though, because I'm out of the healing potion charges... but I have 28 points on Tactics right now so the damage is ridiculous.  I began this earlier on break time at work today.... this game has hooked me yet again lately.

 

*well, a scroll fragment popped up after the Giant so that's 29 points...I went straight to Throne room so that was 2 more yellow scrolls there so now I have 31 points.... the multi-nocks Bow now does 67k dps.  These numbers are looking so juicy....but I'll have to be 100% perfect against the final boss since there's no more healing....

Jet Force is my favorite Rare game but I admit I've never beaten it because I've never bothered to find all those stupid Tribals lol.

Ugh that grind. I don't blame you. I think there was even one time where the ants kept killing one before I could save it. I'm about to save it when I accidentally threw a grenade or some explosive to kill the last enemy like an idiot. Much rage occurred.

There’s more and longer load times than in the western version but with the presentation being much smoother and both games being on one cartridge they more than make up for it 

Yeah PlayAsia is a savior. Sometimes you can get actual physical copies there.

I haven't heard any of the new remixes for Sonic Frontiers but everyone says they are total bangers.

 

Speaking of music, the arranged soundtrack for Super Mario RPG is SO GOOD. Did Yoko Shimomura do the soundtrack again or supervise the arrangements? Either way, I love it. I'm not sure my ears are ready to hear Battle with Culex. When I played Super Mario RPG in 1996, that was actually my first time ever hearing that battle them and as much as I love the FINAL FANTASY IV version, the Super Mario RPG version styles all over it for free. I'm getting jazzed just imagining what it sounds like in the remake.
