Yo, I have like A TON of different weapons in Radiant Silvergun! It's almost too much to take in. @RSG3 Help Me Cat GIF

Hahaha yea this is a pro Shmup. Treasure ain't fuckin around lol.

For early game learning I would recommend picking 3 weapons you like and using them consistently. Once you feel comfy with them start adding more. I'm gonna recommend the Vulcan Gun as one of your starters because it's good the entire game, it's simple and easy to understand since it just shoots forward.

Also don't sleep on the Sword. Don't count it as one of your 3 weapons, you want to use the Sword when you can. It obsorbs pink bullets to power up your bomb (the blue bar on the left hand side by default) and the sword shares exp across all your weapons. It's also really strong. You can tap it to make sword swings but you can also hold the button and keep the sword deployed. It will swing in the opposite direction you move when held out and can 360 circle around the ship.

Also while chaining is important don't like...super sweat it, you're learning so it's fine to miss chains. Reds are the most common and who I recommend yoy focus your chains on majority of the time when going for them. There is a special chain that's 1 of each color. Nets you a special chain bonus. An easy way to test this is right when the game starts you get a wave of each color. Just kill one of each.

After that it's a fuckload of practice and watching people's replays for routes and shit. There are a metric fuckton of tricks and techniques for this game so don't be afraid to watch replays and see what people do. Your jaw will drop at some.peoples starts and you'll get excited to run off and test em yourself, or at least I almost always am.

Mark from Electric Underground has a decent starter video on the game as well. Some good advice in here.

Huh. KNEW there was something I liked about the sword. I knew you would be the dude to go to. Anyone that has a username that LITTERALLY means Radiant Silvergun has gotta know stuff about said game.

I can't figure out why it's been such a big deal to port and actually sell this game, especially when Ikaruga is already on there and RS is something you could emulate. I've been wanting to play it again for awhile but I may just go RetroArch on it rather than wait for this port to actually drop.

There seems to be a sound bug, music's not looping properly in our version so they removed it.

they did something similar with Mushihimesama, just be patient it will be back.

Or you could emulate it but even with a good rig it's decently laggy...

Finally beat Danmaku Unlimited 3 today. Granted, on Easy, but I'd been stuck at that last boss for awhile. Feelgoodman!

Now if only I could wax that alien asshole at the end of Jamestown+

I still haven't beat Dan III, even on easy, that games hard. It's great but it's no joke either imo.

There are only a few spots in the levels that I have a tough time with on Easy. The bosses are pretty tough, especially the 4th one. That one is pretty nuts what with the phase where you have to hide behind the moving barriers it throws out whole it shoots lasers. It's a fun game though, and something about it keeps me coming back even though on paper it doesn't seem like it breaks the mold as far as shmups go.

I played Astebreed too. Not sure how I feel about it tbh, it doesn't vibe with me the way DU or even Senko No Ronde 2 do. It's good in it's way, but I don't get that comeback feeling with it like I do others. Maybe I'll just move on from that one.

I dont dig Astebreed that much either, only shmup with constantly changing perspectives i really like is Eschatos.

Yeah it just doesnt grab me somehow. On paper I feel like I should like it but....

I payed Raiden V today for the first time and while I like it a good bit, it has that same thing Astebreed had where there are characters chattering over the intercom while I'm killing shit, which is annoying because it isn't like I can pay attention to what they're saying while I'm playing.

I'll have to check out Eschatos though, my brother loves that game and keeps telling me how good it is.

You ever play any Rival Megagun at all?

I hate Raiden V. That game makes my eyes hurt, Stage 1s 3D buildings scrolling by really stresses out my eyes for some reason. You can turn off the character chatter in the options menu and I recommend it because they are saying fucking nothing of value. Bitching about coffee and shit. You are missing nothing.

Eschatos is fantastic imo.

I've never played Rival Megagun but it looks like a cool twist on the Twinkle Star Sprites formula.

Yeah I caught a bit of the dialogue and was like "Wtf is this noise?" I have Raiden IV x Mikado and that's the one people talk up so I figured I'd start with V so that I don't wind up playing it right after the most celebrated entry. Gotta say, I really like Moss' games a lot though. Caladrius Blaze is a great game and while I don't think Raiden V is the best, I still liked it on some level. Gonna have to beat it with the other ships though.

If you feel curious about Rival Megagun, grab the Switch version and we can play sometime. It's actually a lot of fun and is pretty deep for what it is.

We seriously need an emote thats like an amazed face but in a positive way.

Batsugun is fucking awesome. It's argued as one of the first Bullet Hells and was the last game directed by Ikeda before he went on to found CAVE after Toaplan shuttered.

Batsugun is fucking awesome, it's a top 3 Shmup for me and my favorite Toaplan game. Haven't read the article yet but if it also includes the Arranged version then thats an extremely awesome and valuable package. Only home releases Batsugun has had is on Saturn where it's like 300 bucks now, or one of those funky little mini ASTRO Cabs full of lag and also pretty expensive.

Batsugun coming to Switch is awesome.

Edit:Oh....it's City Connect....thats......worrying.

The City Connect port of Deathsmiles was on point. I know they've had a bit of a spotty history, but hopefully they've turned a corner with that one because compared to the other ports I've played, it's great.

A bunch of the shmups ony Switch wishlist are on sale, but I'm not in a shmup mood lately and can't be assed..

Though with that said, I kinda got a yen to play Danmaku Unlimited 3 again for some reason. I don't know what it is about that game but it really like it more than a lot of the more stylized shmups I've played.

Been getting back into shmups a bit since I broke Raiden IV x Mikado out of my backlog. I see why that game has such a good reputation and I'm finding I like the Moss/Raiden games quite a bit.

I played through story mode of Raiden V today after trying it back a couple years ago and sleeping on it and it's pretty excellent. Kind of like a sister game to Caladrius Blaze in a way.

Also picked up Crimzon Clover today since it's on sale and I've heard so many good things about it, and tried it out. Seems like a lot of fun.

I hate Raiden V, that game makes my eyes hurt. Like the first stage when it's whipping by on a curve so fast, it really hurts my eyes for some reason. Other games, even by that studio that do the same stuff like Caladrius don't hurt my eyes like Raiden V does. I also felt like the stages where just way too long game just goes on and on and on and woth it hurting my eyes I just want it to be over. Game seems hit or miss with Raiden Fans from my experience. I've never played any version IV crazy enough.

Crimson Clover is amazing imo, it outdoes a lot of Caves best efforts imo and I love it's arranged medal mode with the Gradius Bar.

Eh I get it. The backgrounds can be kind of blurry, which is a complaint I've heard about other games too and it IS a bit long. Game really needs an arcade mode I think, but much like Caladrius it seems like the were trying to figure out how to make an old school style game in an era where everyone is worried about how many hours it takes to play through.

I've heard so many good things about CC I figured I had nothing to lose picking it up and I've heard that the play style for survival vs scoring is different which I like the sound of. And you should check out Raiden IV, it's on sale now on current consoles but from what I hear, the PS3 version Overkill is basically the same as the x Mikado version just with different music.

Again, I forgot we had a SHMUP thread.

I got another credit unlocked on ESCHATOS. I wanna clear the game before unlocking infinite credits but if I scrub it out, oh well. I keep forgetting about my reflector/absorb trigger weapon. That thing really comes in clutch.

Finally got through Raiden IV on Light difficulty in arcade mode. I have a feeling that this will wind up being a game I spend a lot of time with.

Also played through Crimzon Clover today as well and that game is crazy. It starts out pretty easy but the last couple levels are really tough at least at first go. Game is like a casino game with all those medals 🤣 I played a bit of the Gradius style Boost mode too and that was pretty fun. I like the game overall so definitely another one I'll probably be playing a good bit.

Yea Crizon Clover is a rush. It eases you in but by stage 3 or 4 it turns the heat up and by the end of it your trying frantically to not get burned. ..the Star Showers are sooooo satisfying lol.

Yeah the star showers remind me of the crowns or the clouds of suicide bullets in Deathsmiles 1.1. It's addictive lol

Wound up double dipping on Caladrius Blaze too, as it's $3 on PSN now and is another one of my favorites. It's another game I want to learn more about how it works.

Been really diving into Caladrius Blaze and really loving it. It's cool how many different builds you can potentially make and how all the characters have various utilities depending on what your aim is (scoring, survival, speedrun, etc)  I'm finally getting a bit better and being able to clear Easy without too much trouble.

On the other hand, Raiden IV is fucking BRUTAL. Even on the easier difficulties, it's still a tough game and it's really a pretty big about-face from Raiden 3 which is pretty easy as far as Raiden games go. I finished Raiden II last night and it's a pretty cool game. A bit on the long side but good nonetheless.

Got a 1cc and final score of about 112,000,000 on Very Easy difficulty this morning in Caladrius Blaze Evolution mode. Been making quite a bit of progress and think I'll probably start tackling Normal as I've been studying up on the boss fights in that difficulty. I'll probably have to change some of my game plans though since Magic shots deplete quicker and refill slower in Normal, so while it'll be good to be at a higher difficulty, it'll be like starting over in some respects.

Anyone in here play Angel At Dusk? It's a pretty cool horror themed game picked up at some point and have been messing with. It's pretty fun and the artwork is excellent.

I bought it months ago after the demo sold me on it. Trying to unlock more ships and trying to clear the higher difficulties.

Under Defeat is fucking awesome. Is it the HD version from the PS3 Reg?

Under Defeat has the best bomb of all time lol. There are very few bombs that come close to matching its hype levels.

I'm guessing it is. It has multiple soundtracks and 3 different versions of the game.
