I bought Tekken 7 during the summer sale and played already a grand total of 40 minutes of it.

I doubt I will ever get into it, but if I wanted to become at least a beginner where should I start? The blasted thing doesn't even have a tutorial

I would recommend just playing the story mode because it teaches the basics and/or getting used to the game while in training mode. Don’t go into online right away, it’s only frustrating. Play against CPU for some time, you’ll get used to it very quickly.

If you understood them you would fear them. 😉

I keep wanting to get into a 3D fighter. T7 may end up being it. DOA just isn't my jam and SC6 didn't grab me the way I thought it would.

The sucky part is that I traded in the copy I got with my Obsidian so I'd need to buy it again. 😄 And no season stuff but thankfully I'd probably get my main from the core cast.  We'll see what comes out of inevitable end of year sales.

Would Tour GF were awesome and the S2 cast is pretty dang cool. I still don't care about Neegan but the other 5 are solid re-adds.

m not good at 3d fighters but somehow Tekken grabs me in a way few others do.

T7 was pretty fun imo I played for like 3 months straight.

Im going to get Anna and Armor King def.

I'm not good at 2D or 3D fighters. As far as 3D fighters go. The only major franchise I don't like is Tekken. Virtua Fighter, Soul Calibur, and DOA are fine with me. Tekken is a big nope. And before anyone asks, I've bought multiple Tekken games and I usually have more fun with mini games than Tekken.

I still have the unopened of  copy that came with my Obsidian laying around somewhere if you need it. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Well for what it is worth I had a lot of fun playing @misterBee yesterday. 😄

There is a level of reward in this game that I like. I'm gonna keep plunking away at training when I can to try and build more and better muscle memory. And just continue to get a feel for the game in general.

May try out some other chars too. I really like Josie but no reason not to hit up other candidates and see how they feel.

@GetTheTables How's Tekken treating you? Hope you are getting the enjoyment from it that I can't.

Been having fun with it. 😄

Haven't played online since the matches with MisterBee but those were fun and I've hit training mode a bit since then. I want to try and hop online when I can to plug along with this game, but thats all about juggling time. Even if I just play with Bee it'll still be a good time.

I will say, I enjoy it a lot more now than when I first tried it out 6 or so months ago. Even if I'm still super bad at it there are little things about the game that I appreciate.

Yeah definitely. The difficulty of playing T7 is kind of overblown in the sense that to just get in there and get started, it really isn't that bad. There is a shitload you can and will need to learn but that is more on the side of long-term-depth and is the kind of stuff that comes with time/practice. Had a similar experience with +R.

T7 was also when I figured out I don't really like 3D fighters much anymore so wasn't particularly motivated to stick with it. For anyone that is into it, its great the game has had such a healthy lifecycle.

T7 was the first 3d fighting game I ever tried to learn. I felt that the biggest barriers to overcome were the movement, knowing the proper iFrame punishes, matchup knowledge, wakeup options, and silly little nuanced things like throw breaking, chicken technique, etc.

I've heard many Tekken veterans say that T7 was "more 2D" than other 3d fighters. I played Tag Tournament 2 about a year ago and can certainly notice what they are saying. The movement in T7, while still very advanced, is more stiff compared to previous entries. (Or at least the Tekken's that used the "bound" system.)

Obviously this game isn't for everyone. I do feel like this is a good entry level 3d fighter for anyone interested but not wanting to take a plunge into something more technical.

What's the consensus on 2D  characters in Tekken going forward here? Personally I really enjoy the 2D  characters, but I started with 2D games before Tekken so that probably helps. Interested in your thoughts anyone!

2D characters are really strong and it's pretty a contentious topic. I think they are fun. Obviously due to licensing they might not be here forever but I think it's a good way to get new players (me lol) into the series.

Akuma and Geese tods are still really funny but I don't think that's really a problem with 2D characters as much as damage balancing. Season 2 saw damage output go super crazy sicko mode and depending on resources and other factors, could become a 2-3 touch game if playing right.
