1. I took my every couple years pilgrimage back to SF4, and I gotta say it’s probably my favorite 2.5D era announcer and character select. I love the still portraits. That said, the fire background on the vs screen looks straight out of a 2000’s low budget music video lol. More seriously, I can appreciate what this game was going for now that I’m a lot better, but also i remember why I never went back to this game after 5 came out. Links are fun when they are a reasonable gap but a few characters feel unplayable unless you are hitting tight links to do real damage. Also I know it’s one of those old fighting game things but I hated and still hate proximity normals. Feels terrible to use and makes the novelist of normals feel bloated in a 6 button game. 
 

A couple notes on the characters:

* Decapre is way over hated. If you don’t like edgy characters I get it, but a charge take on Cammy is fun. I would learn mash inputs for this character.

 

* Oni looks cool even though the concept of this character is stupid as hell. Wish there was some way for him to come back that didn’t undermine Akuma’s character.

 

* Even all these years later Yang still feels terrible even though he is really cool.

Man this game is probably the closet thing to what I want in terms of a modern FG. Big normals, much slower gameplay with way shorter combos. Still has a good amount of depth. Finally dedicated a couple hours to messing around in training mode and watching a couple YT vids there is a lot of cool stuff going on with these characters. I really like Charlotte, and I might actually drop money on some of the DLC. 
 

But good heavens everything about this game besides the gameplay is so bad. No crossplay and a tiny community makes this a quintessential discord fighter, and honestly I think a lot of the game looks absolutely terrible. Models looks flat and have really weird looking proportions, and there is an abundance of “generic anime” faces. Idk if it’s a budget issue or something but I feel like SNK makes the worst looking modern FGs. Game looks 10 years older than it is

I also bought it mainly to support but I’ve enjoyed the (very little) time I’ve spent on the game. I like mechs and I like FGs so easy dub for me.

 

After I wrap up this play through of Skyrim I’ll dive into it more deeply.
