  1. These are fair points, however, I think it's also worth pointing out that modern AAA games take an enormously higher amount of people than they did in the PS2 and earlier gens. Inflation and labor costs have also gone through the roof over the same period. How many of you remember SNES and N64 games going for $60-$80, back when $60 was a hell of a lot more money than it is now? But back to the other side of the coin, digital distribution has to help their margins tremendously. You're not sinking all that cost into massive print runs that may or may not sell through, used resale is eating less and less of your business, and your game can keep earning for years. I think the pros outweigh the cons if your game picks up steam- and now your game succeeding isn't tied so tightly to that release window sales number. ..All this said, I never pay full price even at $60- there's always a deal somewhere if you're playing on PC. And of course if you're willing to wait, the price drops pretty quickly- and again, those are earnings that publishers rarely saw previously.
  2. Separate ways in re4 remake is $10 well spent. Just finished my first playthrough and really enjoyed it.
  3. Beware that the other scenarios have tougher bosses than the first run. So jumping to veteran on consecutive runs will probably seem like an extra large difficulty spike vs casual. Veteran is indeed much tougher in general, regardless.
  4. Itsuno interview on DD2: https://www.videogameschronicle.com/features/interviews/interview-capcom-explains-why-dragons-dogma-2-has-taken-so-long/
  5. 6 was the Sarcophagus boss, correct? That one's really tough on veteran difficulty. There are 8 stages on the first run- there are additional runs with different characters/endings with different final bosses and a couple new levels in the final run. Then there's boss rush and solo modes if you're still up for more.
  6. Glad you're giving it a shot. Stage 5 is the threshold where the difficulty spikes with a CV3'ish level of challenge. Great old school feel with modern QOL touches.
  7. Did you like Bloodborne? I'm interested in LoP, but would like to hear more opinions from BB fans.
  8. There were plenty of other people who worked on SotN.
  9. Ah, the 30 year old schoolyard debate. SNES ended up with way more timeless games, IMO.
  10. Let's just say they made sure to hit their targeted diversity score while casting explicitly medieval eastern European fiction (with clear visual descriptions of many characters).
  11. Remember what they did with Wesker and every female character in the Witcher?
  12. This is awesome news. Wayforward did a stellar job with Contra 4, I've been hoping they'd do another since then. Very happy to hear that this one will be on everything as well.
  13. The triple berserker fight in ragnarok is grade a bullshit, even on normal difficulty at level 7.
  14. That was the only way I was ever able to beat Galamoth in Richter mode.
  15. It's alarming how easy it is to repair and replace arcade stick parts once you get past the initial fear of breaking something. The worst you can do with that swap is to put the harness on upside down or have it rotated incorrectly, and either of those are easily remedied.
  16. You could replace the jlf, as the others suggested, or just replace the microswitch pcb assembly, which would be cheaper and even easier. https://focusattack.com/sanwa-tp-ma-pcb-assembly/
  17. I recently replayed Dad of War again, this time on PC, and really enjoyed it. The game already looked alarmingly great on PS4, but being able to play it at a high framerate improved the experience quite a bit. I decided to get GoW3 remastered afterwards, and man, 30 minutes in and it feels like shit in comparison. The hits just don't seem to have any impact to them, it's like playing fucking Gauntlet or something. I'll give it some more time, as I did enjoy the first two back when they were new, but what a stark reminder of why I used to dunk on American action games so hard. Kudos to Sony Santa Monica for making such a massive improvement with DoW.
  18. Got a leak on the next Guilty Gear character:
  19. Picked up Gravity Circuit last week after seeing a few of you talk about it, just finished the game on normal. Fun game, very well tuned, feels nice to play. Looking forward to hard mode then challenges like no upgrade runs. Was expecting more out of the music though, just seemed like the weaker of the MM soundtracks. Not annoying or anything, I was just expecting something more special, given what they were going for. Would have been nice to have a Jake Kaufmann soundtrack. I'm very grateful for the whole modern retro indie thing- there are more and more people who are really nailing the feel these days.
  20. I was thinking about this, and other "necessary" changes Netflix makes, yesterday. There's a prime opportunity for them do do a series based on the Ghostbusters reboot and cast Lizzo as the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man. They could say it's now a chocolate marshmallow to add diversity points, and they wouldn't have to spend on CG for those scenes, as she already looks the part.
  21. You can buzz though Sekiro pretty quickly once you really get good at the combat, and it stays fun. Definitely doesn't feel like the kind of long task a Souls game or Bloodborne does on repeats. You unlock a boss rush mode where you can really zero in on mastering them- if that's all there was to the game, it would still be worth buying. I have 200 hours in the game and still enjoy it.
  22. Sounds like you want challenging combat without any bullshit. Keep an eye out for sales on Furi and Sifu.
