VERY different. He did a very good job, and I see he also updated the Streetfighterwiki as well with all the right quotes. The English quotes were more or less ten for each character, all random and NOT character specific like the Japanese ones. Some were really stupid (I remember Ingrid TICKLING her opponent, WTF?), others completely missed the point (Sodom's ones, with him speaking incorrect Japanese using English words mashed together).

I still remember the moment I did a FAB against Shin Akuma in Alpha 2. Zangief showed the charging animation, then suddenly Akuma began his SGS, seemingly evading the FAB under my nose. I was like "FUUUU" but... Gief instantly grabbed him out of his SGS. Muscle Power wins! Too bad I didn't record that.

I missed this info before, so I have to thank Eventhubs for pointing it out. Q-Bee was copied (yeah, Akitomo exactly said "TOTALLY RIPPED-OFF") from Chika, a bee-like alien girl from the manga Space Family Carlvinson. Akitomo just made her creepier by removing the original comedic parts. Interesting. Like Q-Bee, Chika was fully an insect, and only imitated being a human through mimicry.

Apparently, the names of Tabasa's three cats, whom she transforms into her shoes and other objects, are Al, Ibn (not IVEN) and Sina (this last one is frequently omitted because it's the cat who transforms into her BAG). They came from eminent Islamic alchemists: Ibn (her left shoe) from Jābir ibn Ḥayyān, better known as Geber; Al (her right shoe) from Abū Bakr al Rāzī, better known as al-Razi; Sina from Ibn Sīnā, better known as Avicenna. The comical part is that... Not a single one of the parts the Japanese took for the cats is a real name in Arabic, except Sīnā... Which was actually the name of Avicenna's great-great grandfather anyway. In Arabic, ابن ibn (also written simply بن bin in the middle of a name) is "son of", thus Jābir son of Ḥayyān... ال Al is the definite article, and سینا Sīnā... Avicenna's full name was أبو علي الحسين بن عبد الله بن الحسن بن علي بن سينا البلخي البخاري Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥusayn bin ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Ḥasan bin ʿAlī bin Sīnā al-Balkhi al-Bukhari. So, Abū 'Alī al-Ḥusayn SON OF 'Abdullāh SON OF al-Ḥasan SON OF 'Alī SON OF Sīnā al-Balkhi al-Bukhari. Obviously, nothing of all that could've been known without the Japanese admitting it in All About Warzard, so at the time アル Aru was correctly given the name "Al" and イブン Ibun was mistakenly transliterated "Iven"...

It's not an opinion. The drawing literally appears in the site dedicated to the anniversary, full of messages from staffers and drawing from former artists who worked to the series. Is Capcom going to shove Vega sama again into the series, because they won't find a better villain if they tried for their lives? OF COURSE THEY WILL, come on. One doesn't need to read the future to know it. But Shinkiro's art is explicitly made for the anniversary, and in itself it doesn't constitute proof of anything. As indeed did his previous art with Retsu, explicitly made for the 25th anniversary and published in Street Fighter Artwork goku in 2012. Shinkiro even commented in his own image "I wanted to draw characters I don't draw so often"... But noooo, everyone jumped to "RETSU IS COMING TO SFIV" as soon as they saw the art. Was Shinkiro explicitly asked to insert Elena and Hugo for Ultra? Possible, but we don't know for sure - also, Retsu didn't make the cut, as didn't ROLENTO AND ELENA in SFV with the tarot cards. Some characters can be hints, others can well be red herrings.

Good art, but it's a mashup for SF's 35th anniversary... It tells nothing about the future installment, stop linking it to SF6. Unless you want to tell me even JUNI AND JULI are coming, just because there's an art of them on the same site... But I'll have to admit that Honda diving into Chun-Li is hilarious.

No, Hakan's hair colour was... just based on a wordplay. Basically, since turquoise etymologically comes from the French pierre turquoise, "Turkish stone", and in Japanese is even more immediately evident (トルコ石 toruko ishi = turquoise, literally "Turkish stone", again; トルコ人 torukojin = Turkish man) ... yes, they gave him turquoise hair... made of stone...

Interesting that they named Ryu's theme Viator, Latin for "wanderer". Anyway, Ryu's stage is apparently named Genbu Temple. Interestingly, its Japanese name is 玄文神社 genbu jinja, but the two kanji for genbu aren't the usual 玄武 but 玄文 instead, because the pronunciation can be the same (玄文 should normally be read genbun but the last character could also be pronounced bu). I had an exchange of views with Ryoredcyclone about the fact, and while there's no definitive conclusion, we supposed Capcom changed the last kanji because there does exist an actual shrine with that exact name in Kyōto. The translation Temple is nonstandard. Usually, 寺 tera is "temple" and 神社 jinja is "shrine", because strictly speaking a temple is Buddhist and a shrine is Shintoist. The shrine here is markedly Shintō, and is evidently dedicated to INARI, god of prosperity, generally depicted as a kitsune (fox), although Inari has no canonically definite sex nor depiction (Inari can appear as a fox, as a man or as a woman at will). Genbu shrine is a mix of all Inari shrines around Japan, most notably Itsukushima with its spectacular and widely known torii gate in the water, and Fushimi Inari taisha with its long row of torii gates one after another. Inari shrines tend to have multiple gates because thriving businesses and companies often dedicate a new torii in an Inari shrine to thank the god for their success; who knows, maybe one of those torii has Kanzuki zaibatsu written over it somewhere... The imagery here is stereotipically Shintō, in contrast with the usual Buddhist themes associated with Ryu (until now, it was Honda who used Shintō references). The two sakura trees are joined with a sacred shimenawa rope, as it's customarily done with rocks to simbolically "marry" them.

The problem with Chun-Li is that her creators were - and are - supremely misogynistic without even realising it. Chun-Li's new stance move, which they called "Serenity Stream" in English, is named 行雲流水 Kōun ryūsui in Japanese. It's an old expression literally meaning "going like the clouds, flowing like the water"; it alludes figuratively to an easygoing attitude, which adapts to everything without sticking to a specific form. Oh, and bearded Guile is cool.

And it was about time, honestly. The most important part is that the WORLD itself seems to be still happy go lucky. There's a lot of LIGHT in future Metro City, and that's good. For all the machinations Mad Gear concocted (so they WERE up to something in SFV, after all), there's now plenty of street fighters ready to stop those stupid boxfaces. Gill has his own private paradise, so if you want to join the cult you can, but he HASN'T taken over the world. That brings a smile to my face. Also, Zangief is enormous and I dig his redesign. I will definitely try all of the newcomers, primarily Marisa and Lily. I suspect she can be related to Hawk... Imagine if she's his DAUGHTER, lol.

That's an idea they had about her in "serious mode" as a member of a stable of faces (正統派 seitōha "orthodox" is the old Japanese pro wrestling term for "babyfaces"; remember when in Fatal Fury 2's flyer they translated Big Bear as practicing "orthodox" wrestling? They actually meant that he's a FACE when using his Big Bear persona, AND that he fights using "classic" pro wrestling moves from the Sixties/Eighties).
