  1. It looks like JP's full name was revealed on his tag: Johann Pavlovich. Or Papovich, but I'm inclined towards Pavlovich. So he HAS a full name...
  2. Not to mention Savate is the only remaining martial art about which Ikki Kajiwara spoke in his hugely influential Karate Baka Ichidai that Capcom never represented. Capcom even thought about Capoeira (also mentioned in KBI) long before Elena while developing the SF2 prototype back in 1988, but never touched Savate. EDIT: Yeah, I know Capcom passed off whatever REMY does as Savate, but come on.
  3. ROTFL. Actually Akiman DID specify one move (he wrote "special move" but could've been an Ultra, who knows): Russian Explosion Hug - Putin hugs his opponent and EXPLODES. CAN BE DONE AGAINST A GROUNDED OPPONENT. A bit like Q (Putin's double is a robot after all), but sambo-style.
  4. That was my reaction as well when I read all that nonsense on his Twitter, a second before bursting into laughter. Anyway, I saved the jpgs, so just to prove it... Here's PUTIN'S DOUBLE (actually a robot, not a clone. I misremembered). To Akiman's credit, even him wrote "if you think we can't use the Russian president, just create a fictitious Eastern European republic, "SOMETHINGSTAN" or whatever."
  5. Ironically, that would end up reusing an old discarded idea that AKIMAN wrote for prototype Seth back in SFIV, when he envisioned PUTIN (yes, THAT Putin) being kidnapped and substituted with a Shadaloo-controlled clone. Prototype Abel (still called Maurice Moreau), the French jūdō champ, was the only one who knew, so he was targeted by Shad.
  6. Seconded. On one hand, it could be a good redemption arc for Rog. On the other hand... Well, everyone would end up being related to someone already known. A bit too claustrophobic.
  7. Oh, it could be anyone, but Mad Gear was far from being just a "street gang". Belger was a wealthy businessman. Rolento was tasked with the surveillance of their drug facility. Even with those two gone (I doubt Rolento would come back to ally with Mad Gear again), Mad Gear could still have someone else as the backup mastermind. JP seems a likely candidate, but anyway we still don't know anything. Oh, also Lily female Hawk confirmed. CONDOR DIVE!
  8. A little nuance about Ken. His Japanese profile says ある事件により組織犯罪の首謀者という嫌疑をかけられたため、家族の元を離れ地位を捨てて潜伏している。 He was suspected of being the leader of a criminal organisation, so he left his family and went into hiding. He wasn't simply "orchestrating a criminal plot", he was suspected of being the boss of a criminal organisation. More than likely that's Mad Gear. Obviously Damnd's doing, because no one would believe Abigail shouting "HE'S MY BOSS, I SWEAR", come on. If that's the case, I wonder whether Cody would appear or not. After all, it's more or less exactly what happened to him... Except that Cody went in prison and Ken is a fugitive. Kimberly is already a connection with the FF characters...
  9. And it turns out my suspicions were correct! Remember when years ago in SRK I speculated that Honda was never promoted because he kept skipping sumō tournaments to promote sumō worldwide? That's EXACTLY what Capcom wrote in his profile for SF6. https://www.streetfighter.com/6/en-uk/character/ehonda.html "A sumo wrestler looking to bring the sport worldwide, E. Honda has the skills of a yokozuna, but his constant globetrotting has prevented his promotion. Also an expert chef renowned for mouthwatering chanko stew." The Japanese profile is even more specific: 相撲を「わあるどわいど」にするため闘う力士。 実力は横綱級だが、本場所そっちのけで世界を飛び回る破天荒さゆえ、番付は張出大関である。 料理は玄人裸足の腕前で、ちゃんこ鍋が絶品。 "His strength is on a yokozuna level, but because of his constant globetrotting skipping tournaments, on the banzuke he’s a haridashi ōzeki." I quote my previous explanation from SRK archives:
  10. Ryoredcyclone thinks he's only a clerk who wears Sodom's clothes. I wonder whether Capcom would ever confirm or deny that.
  11. A moment of appreciation for Honda's super which materialises a FLAMING SUMŌ RING where Honda throws his opponent.
  12. HOLD IT RIGHT THERE! IS THAT UNMASKED SODOM BEHIND THE COUNTER? 😱 LOL the shirts on the left showing the single characters 波 動 拳 Ha dō ken. Also, Honda's Chanko House is named 江戸紋 Edomon. As I said some time ago, Edo is Tōkyō's old name; 紋 mon is "emblem". Capcom keeps doing wordplays with Honda's name, but it's clear they imply it's a Japanese name. The writing on Chun-Li's pavilion is the Chinese blessing 福如東海 fúrú Dōng Hǎi, "May your happiness be as vast as the East Sea". This game is going to be amazing.
  13. What does Lili Rochefort have to do with Lily, and where did I even mention her, exactly? 🤔 For starters, Lili is short for Emilie, which is her actual name - and etymologically means "rival", "imitator", from Latin aemulus (also English emulator). It makes sense, as Lili was conceived as Asuka's rival. SF6's Lily is a Native American character, invented by Japanese developers. May I remind you that the only idea the Japanese have of American Natives, First Nations and so on is stuck at the few stereotypes they already knew, first coming from the American movies and then repeated in Japan over and over through manga and anime? We're talking about people who didn't bat an eyelid at the thought of naming T.Hawk Geronimo1 in the first draft. And even Thunder Hawk... Just why should a Mexican native have an English name? It's abundantly clear they intended to portray a classic stereotypical Plains Indian, and Lily fits the same mould: a Plains Indian character who's Mexican just because T.Hawk was, and Hawk in turn was Mexican only because Capcom felt there were already too many Americans (they retconned his father as having a Spanish name, Arroyo, which makes even less sense of all that). After all, Mexico is full of Natives as well, so who ever will notice? The hotchpotch worsens when we consider Hawk's moveset, a true blend of Native American stereotypes: we go from Condor2 Dive to Tomahawk3 Buster, from Tatanka4 Horn (his standing far MP) to Angry Totem5 (vertical jump MP). If I see Capcom call a Native American girl Lily, of course I think they took the name from Peter Pan's Tiger Lily, come on. Peter Pan is super popular in Japan, where they play the 1954 Broadway version with a new cast every year. Not to mention the 1989 anime series, where Tiger Lily's role was expanded and she became John's love interest, instead of competing with Wendy and Tinkerbell for Peter. It's ironic that the tiger lily is an Asian flower, first introduced into the USA in 1804. Anyway, as Cestus said it's extremely unlikely we'll ever get to see Capcom admitting all that, so... 1 Like 005, the Native American in Cyborg 009, stereotypically the strongest of the group and whose name was Geronimo jr. 🤦‍♂️ Conversely, Sakigake! Otokojuku had a stereotypical native American named Red Thunder. Both names obviously aren't actual names in any native language, as Geronimo was how the Mexicans called him. His real Apache name was Goyaałé. 2 Quechua Language (kuntur). Although a condors subspecies does live in the North, Quechua is a South American language. A good start indeed... 3 Unidentified Eastern Algonquian language, probably Powhatan (reconstructed as *tumahák, "axe"). So Hawk is Powhatan? 4 Lakota Language (tȟatȟáŋka) for "bull" (a bison bull, obviously). So he's Lakota? 5 Ojibwe Language (ᑑᑌᒻ doodem) for "clan", "kinship group". So he's Ojibwe? Incidentally, Plains Indians didn't have totem poles, but they're always depicted as having them in older media.
  14. So... Kimberly has Guy's Hōzanto shoulder block, just a TELEPORTING one instead of Guy's evasive movement; the same run with overhead kick - sliding options AND a backflip grab which can combo into a flying kick OR a BUSHIN IZUNA OTOSHI, just passing from under the armpit instead of flipping over the head of her opponent; AND Ibuki's bombs? Are they trying to just fuse every SF ninja into one?
  15. As far as I gathered, it's the entire point of her story arc. It's the reason her official profile doesn't say anything other than the already known "a boy raised as a girl because of a superstition blah blah blah". Bridget starts saying she's a boy but with less and less conviction, until she comes out accepting the fact she likes being a girl. Obviously, that didn't sit well with some parts of the FGC, because let's be honest: we're full of machists. So there's plenty of people accusing the English localization team of having invented the English dialogues "because of the Western woke agenda". There's this ridiculous idea, amongst the alt-right weebs, that Japan is this mythical land free of the "Western wokeism and PC agendas". Am I the only one who remembers when back then it was the WEST which censored all the lesbians and gender changes in Sailor Moon? Anyway, they're obviously wrong: Bridget's dialogues are the same in Japanese. I was also wrong, because I misremembered: Eagle was gay ONLY in CvS2. By the time he was added to SFZ3MAX, his homosexuality went out of the window and he became a plain British gentleman, just looking for an exciting fight. Boring, we don't need another Dudley.
  16. Eagle IS gay. The English localization REMOVED the bits in his winquotes where that's apparent.
  17. Maki did. She followed them up automatically with a Bushin Izuna Otoshi, though. Also the LP-MP-HP-throw combo, as it was to be expected. Some normals as well, consequently. "Master Guy, I heard Rose is waiting for you with open legsARMS. With open arms."
  18. That's because the origin of Nam's attack was Mil Máscaras's Flying Cross Chop, which also became a trademark move of every real-life Tiger Mask (and any stereotypical Mexican luchador in fighting games, see KOF's Ramon, VF's El Blaze, DOA's Lisa, Tekken's King, AK and JC... also Alex in SF3.). In wrestling, the move is done against a standing opponent, but Nam's version is performed against a floored foe. Interestingly, since Mil Máscaras only went to Japan in 1971 and Tiger Mask's first animated series was filmed in 1969, the first Tiger Mask never uses the move. It's only the second Tiger Mask who starts using it.
  19. Kimberly's second Super Art ends with Nam's Cross Arm Dive from Dragon Ball. Also, her air throw is apparently named Nue Twister. Fittingly, they chose another yōkai after Maki's Ajara Tengu and Guy's Izuna Otoshi to name the same move.
  20. Well, she had the first kanji of 武神 Bushin appear after her teaser in the SF6 trailer already. It was already clear by then. Unfortunately, we have to get accustomed to the idea Capcom will only ever guarantee the SF2 roster; as for the rest... no one is safe.
  21. That was obvious as soon as we learnt Kimberly practiced Bushinryū. I'm willing to bet she'll have the classic FF combo LP-MP-HP-HK, and its throw-ending variant. I just hope her specials won't be too similar to Maki's ones, but I'm certainly not holding my breath...
  22. I also found out about this only today, after BootyWarrior said so. I simply googled it to verify. The fact Dudley is so obsessed with his father's car is answered in the previous Q&A: when his father went bankrupt, Dudley swore to get back everything the family lost to pay for their debts, down to the single teaspoon. He succeeded, but he couldn't find the Jaguar anywhere. Getting it back would mean to get back his youth to him. I don't know if the fact Dudley has divorced is merely a guess, as Dudley doesn't say anything about a wife or a previous lover in the scan Ryoredcyclone posted.
  23. In SF3 fanbook. Ryoredcyclone mentioned that some time ago on twitter. Dudley's parents are alive and well, his father just retired after having lost everything.
