  1. Inconsistent art direction and character model/animation quality, but from wat we've seen of SF6 that doesn't seem like an issue. You could definitely see SFV was mid-budget but SF6 looks like a proper AAA fighting game, with everything that comes with that. Don't really care about single player game modes either way, so I'm a bit indifferent about those. I wish FM came back though, that was such a fair system compared to what literally every other publisher was/is doing.
  2. Bah, closed beta again? Oh well, maybe I'll have some luck this time (probably not).
  3. That tier list has too many, well, tiers, doesn't it? Plus with the extra gap between letters it makes it seems like some characters are significantly better than others when they're mostly around the same strength (Cammy and Chun for example). Also strongly disagree that Falke is worse than Rose, she has an easier time forcing her gameplan unto the opponent than Rose and there's less room for error when doing so. Anyway, like others have said I expect a semi-info-blowout at the Game Awards. Like at least two characters and a release date and/or a date for the next open beta.
  4. Fucking great, so I'm getting Blanka on the cover for subscribing. Thanks for nothing, EDGE.
  5. Basically every player on a football/soccer court is an asshole and makes more money in a month than I do in a decade, so I really doubt that's part of the reasoning.
  6. April isn't too bad. I think May/June is when it starts to feel very far away still, considering how much we've already seen of it. Obviously I'd want it earlier but I also, really, don't want a SFV situation again.
  7. I fell out of GoT in Season ... 6? with the whole chapter about the Sand Snakes, because that almost felt like a sitcom at times and completely ruined the tone for me.
  8. Yeah, same here. I kept running into the European pros like Phenom and Broski and at that point it's just demotivating to play.
  9. Getting to Diamond rank already killed my limited enjoyment of SFV because you get constantly matched up with people who literally have ten times as many points as you. I might go back to it close to SF6's launch just for the heck of it (and because Rose won't be in SF6) but that's about it I think.
  10. I also don't think the 60 price model was the reason for increased DLC but simply the acceptance of it was. Players went from laughing at Oblivion's horse armour to buying Oblivion's horse armour to asking for more horse armour for their games the moment they have beaten them. Every god-awful business model used in games these days – cat-in-the-bag season passes, day one DLC, "free"-to-play nonsense – exists because enough people buy into it to make it more profitable than a singular 60 bucks purchase ever could be. Against my better judgement, and because I didn't get into the SF6 beta, I tried Overwatch 2 the last weekend and it's straight up disgusting. Prices for skins are so inflated that the stuff that I unlocked through the "first" game is, according to their ingame currency logic, worth over 10.000 bucks. And no, I'm not making that up. Anyway, I thought I had a point somewhere but I don't think I do.
  11. If they succeed, maybe next time you'll see him you'll go 😍
  12. Not saying I completely disagree with the discussion from the last page, but you have to keep in mind that female characters are still by and large less popular than male characters, in fighting games and videogames as a whole. This is the current Top 10 ranking for SFV character usage: 9 out of 10 characters are males and I think Juri's only up there because she got recently revealed for SF6 and people are hyped a bit. Usually she's a bit farther down IIRC. The fact that they're also bringing back DeeJay and, of all things, Ed show that they're willing to experiment with less popular characters and finding a new place for them. Birdie in SFV is another good example for this IMO.
  13. Wait, I thought Drive Rush was 3 bars? Why did Guile only have to use one bar in that clip? Or is it only 3 bars if you cancel from another move? In any case, yeah, that short video kind of dismantles my idea that Gief will be dumb with Drive Rush. Correction: everyone will be dumb with Drive Rush. Not a bad philosophy actually. SF5 would have been way more balanced if every character had Aegis Reflector.
  14. I hated that at first but quickly learned how to sidestep it. Not a particularly good design, but it wasn't as bad as initially presumed. Which I hope will be the case for Drive Impact as well, but some people seem to be worried a bit. But you're not going to "crack the code" in a two-day beta, so the jury's still out.
  15. Yeah, I hope the next beta is an open one. From what I understand this one was surprisingly stable and functional all-around, so technically the next stress test should be to include more people and the easiest way to get there is to not restrict access.
  16. What is up with that air throw? That's the first really messed up animation I've seen from this game, hopefully still unfinished. Gives me Cammy roflcopter PTSD.
  17. Manon seems to have a power-up feature for her command grabs that carries over between rounds. I wonder if it's just a pure numbers boost à la Mika V-Skill (damage) or Hakan oil (range) or if it actually changes how the grab works as they did with G's presidential level. Either way she sounds really interesting, but so do a lot of newcomers.
  18. I expect them to add a toggle for "every character" but I think they will keep the modern controls as default. Reason being that the super casuals for which they are designed are less likely to inform themselves and look for the setting to switch them around than the other way around.
  19. That's untrue, there are certain genres where developer push for 60fps because they benefit significantly from high framerate. I mean, we're in a fighting game forum, can you even think off the top off your head of a fighting game on console that doesn't run at 60fps? Maybe some Switch ports of game that were initially developed for more potent hardware, but natively coded games always run at 60. As do a lot of non-open world racing games. And multiplayer shooters. And Nintendo platformers. And so on. The big difference between console an PC in this instance is that the developer has to make the choice about which framerate you have to play with for you. But that does not imply they always choose 30fps.
  20. God I hope Capcom was clever enough to hide certain code lines and remove certain assets from the beta client. As much as I want to know more about the game, I really don't want to seem them have to navigate around another leak at this point.
  21. Eh, I'm another one of those 10 and didn't get a code, so they might just have two or three for us in total.
  22. Considering how heavily scaled your damage is after perfect parry, I wonder how often it's really worth going for.
  23. Wow, this guy's designing his own Turing Test, but not around AI but gender. What a visionary, can't wait for what he comes up next.
  24. The sad part is that the business model from the initial announcement in 2019 was actually really fair to consumers. Overwatch was just to turn into Overwatch 2 with everything carrying over but if you wanted to play the new solo/coop campaign you'd have to buy it. Unfortunately this was formulated vaguely enough to make it possible for them to squeeze the whole thing into a F2P mess without technically contradicting themselves and it's here where it went downhill. What I find particularly disgusting is how a game you paid for (Overwatch 1) will simply turn into a F2P game as soon as you go online (which you have to to play it). I'm sure they protected themselves against any kind of lawsuit via some weirdly worded user agreement but that's a more than questionable precedent they're setting here.
