  1. OG Justice is a total fuckhead. My first run through original GG single player was with Pot. Christ that was miserable. I feel like that run took me like 4 hours. I don't think I ever played it after that.
  2. I will tell you from my limited experience that doesn't change a ton at least into Gold. Still a lot of gimmicky folks just different gimmicks. That's FGs though. At least at the lower levels you can rely on them being suboptimal and hilariously predictable. I actually miss the Bronze Kens. What you have described is the eternal SFV cycle. Online kinda sucks, game is maybe kinda bad......but its SF so there are forever going to be people online playing it and when it feels good, it feels *good*. One of the reasons I feel like the mediocre netcode is so painful. Its like a relationship with a toxic person but with awesome sex sometimes. Real easy to fall back into texting them on a Friday night. "Yeah I know its a mistake but sometimes you just gotta stick your dick in bad netcode alright!?" Re: FGC personalities - Just like any other group of people, some of them are tools. With social engagement being more of a factor, esp this year when tournaments haven't really been a thing, that shit is just going to come out.
  3. IRL c-c-c-combo breaker. Not gonna be able to make it tonight. 😞 Rock on without me. Hopefully I can throw down sometime this weekend.
  4. @FlyingVe @Hawkingbird Anybody up for games tonight? I should be free after 6pm EST or so.
  5. Says the Honda main. 😛 I think the thing with SFV is that there is kind of a mental attrition factor. The irritating things in this game kinda chip away because they are persistent. Like after so many years of this game I'm kinda over VTCs, meter gain, the normals, etc., etc. That said, the netcode inconsistency is definitely a big factor in overall enjoyment especially right now. Like playing FGs in general can be fun just based on how you approach it. But if the online isn't great, markedly less fun. And SFV is unfortunately lightly cursed due to it being inconsistent: if it was always good or always bad you'd at least know what you're getting when you sit down. Hopefully they can keep iterating on/tweaking it because its frustratingly close but who knows how much effort Capcom is willing to throw at it by this point in the cycle.
  6. Not throwing shade but I think he does a fair number of his running commentary vids at least a little wasted. I remember a couple that were hard to watch for that reason. Another factor in why I prefer the more produced stuff. Cycling back to SFV to try vainly to stay on topic: actually I got nothing. Don't even have Dan yet to BS about. I heard rumblings of possible new CAs? Sure seems like something to bolt on to psuedo-freshen up the game. Laura is going to jump a whole 'nother tier when they give her a CA that can chip.
  7. I have the same experience. Not to armchair too hard but the reason teams usually work is the dynamic. Matt sorta needs someone to balance out his dick and fart jokes. His heavily produced stuff is usually really nice though - I've watched all the Spider-Man stuff he's put up and I don't GAF about spooderman. If those vids aren't officially sanctioned and sponsored they fucking well should be. Just looking at that first one I can only imagine the mountain of time that went into making that thing.
  8. Samsho was really tempting but the inconsistency of the online (or rather the consistency of how often people had poor experiences with it) led to me not bothering. I have base GBVS and the first DLC pack. I wanted to go hard into that game but delay netcode woes again and general burnout killed it for me. Plus it was another one of those cases where I couldn't really find anyone in the case that really appealed to me. I've been a fan of Matt and Woolie since the Fighterpedia days. That first lore summary has that same energy, backed up by many more years of production experience, which shows. And he does a damn fine job of tying it all together. I've kinda sorta known GG lore for awhile (I'm technically a really old GG fan as I started with the PS1 game, though I'm in no way hardcore) but nailing down all the fine points is another level entirely.
  9. Yeah similar. KI has already kinda roused me from my slumber but if that game doesn't complete the conversion Strive will. One of the legit very good things I learned from SFV is there is a lot of value to be had from getting in on a FG at a ground level. For as bloated as the cast and everything is, I had a pretty solid grasp on all the chars and mechanics all the way up until I dropped off, just because I was there when it came along. Trying to jump in on a game on the back end can feel a lot more overwhelming. I have zero clue who I'm going to play in Strive. The closest things I have to legacy chars in GG are Slayer, Ram, and Johnny. Out of those 3 only Ram is in the launch roster so I'll probably give her a spin just to see how she plays in this new version. Not expecting Slayer to return - let Nagoriyuki carry the vampire assassin league torch. Johnny is inevitable so I'll surely try him out when he comes out in DLC pack 2 or whatever.
  10. April 9, 2021 for release. From what I remember there is a free upgrade and PS4 <-> PS5 crossplay. I'm likewise excited. Its a different iteration of Gear but gorgeous + rollback + clean slate has me on board to crack into it on release.
  11. Always fine by me. If I'm gonna flail around, might as well hopefully entertain someone else while I'm doing it. Probably gonna shoot for tomorrow evening. Tonight is still 50/50 but I'm fucking exhausted so better to just take the day either way and plan for the more sure thing.
  12. Yeah I've played very little of this game outside of lobby sessions. Don't have much interest in it either. I'm still burnt out on the idea of playing randos. And maybe its just a different engine thing but the MK randos can be a little extra obnoxious.
  13. Tomorrow is a little up in the air for me but if it ends up being free I'd definitely be down for some games.
  14. I'm up for games sometime this week. Weds (tomorrow) is a bit up in the air but Thurs into the weekend seem open. I'll probably have forgotten whatever I practiced between now and then so hopefully I'll have some time to refresh. But if not I'll just do it live. 🙂
  15. Count me in for those game tags too. MK11 and KI are the two games I'm most motivated to play right now. Still only have it on PS4 and I need to lab a bit more but no amount of lab time is gonna offset my fumbling so mightas well throw hands.
  16. The thing about characters like Mileena sometimes is that they can be a really good excuse to branch out into a playstyle you wouldn't necessarily engage with. Even if it isn't something that you really click with there are always lessons you can bring back and apply to the playstyle/character you are more comfortable with. For example I learned a lot more about the up close game in SFV playing Laura than I ever would with anyone else I would have picked, and those lessons were really helpful with Poison. So maybe it is less about playing Milenna how you want and more about embracing your inner gorilla and living that life for a bit.
  17. I think Spawn is an easier fit because of his origins (comic books) and the fact that the mythology of them is so wacky-dacky that sure, why the hell not put him in MK? Dude has been a guest char in 2 different FGs so far and its made perfect sense both times, mostly because "portals and hell magick" gives you a lot of wiggle room. Terminator, Robocop, and Rambo are a lot adorably dumber because they exist in versions of our real world that aren't overly fantastic except for some near future stuff in the case of Robocop and Terminator. Also I think them being realized in movie form first and foremost makes it a little extra weird for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe because its more about the performances and the movies that surround them as a whole, so divorcing that to make them have death battles with ninjas and wizards is a little extra bizarre? I dunno. Regardless of how anyone feels about it the stunt casting has seemingly been wildly effective for NRS, and you're seeing other companies dip into that where they can just to try to catch a little bit of that cross-promo lightning in a bottle. But NRS hit on the secret sauce: weaponizing the nostalgia of 30-40 year old men. Always good for a quick buck.
  18. As someone who grew up reading Spawn comics like they were the coolest shit ever, I can't say I'm the biggest fan of him in MK11. If for no other reason than he'd make generally more sense in the next Injustice. I'd probably get way more of a kick using necro magic to fuck up Superman. Though I'm sure DC would veto the shit outta that. Then again they did have the Spawn/Batman crossover so hey maybe not. Where's my football faced variant skin?
  19. @MattatsuWatch with a notepad handy. Monkey does thorough work:
  20. Sly's don't come cheap. My hope is that KP2 has more chars coming and they just didn't want to tip their hand. Cold dropping more chars outta nowhere is always a fun move.
  21. For what its worth I get what you mean, aided by what I know about Nash and your love-hate relationship with him. 😉 MK also may be a little weird for that kind of style due to how projectiles work overall. I don't think Skarlet plays that way due to her normals not really encouraging her to get into the scrum too much. Cassie can kind of do it with counter zoning forcing engagement with her awesome buttons. That Sheeva thing that EC mentioned may be something to look into too. All of that is my real limited experience with MK though so I defer to anyone with more kombat experience.
  22. @VhoziteSkarlet can MB blood ball to have it travel faster or slower. So you can theoretically follow behind it like a traditional boom. That is the MB version only so not like something you could use consistently. Also not sure how well her buttons play into whatever play style you're looking for; she feels kind of cast into a zoner role to me.
  23. I totally get your point, but: If there was ever a game that Capcom was not going to be bold with (i.e. SF3 character roster type bold), SF6 is that game. If you told me that SF6 is just going to be SFIV: Part 2, I would 100% believe it.
  24. Next you'll tell me something crazy like Chun Li is back. 🙂 What Juri proved in SFV is that we need fewer actual yoga practitioners and more people in yoga pants. First costume pack should be that for the whole cast. Like SF5's track suits but way sexier for everyone. Smuggled plums and moose knuckles everywhere.
