  1. In fairness this is a re-release of an old ass game that they clearly didn't do a lot of work with. Wouldn't shock me if all of that was the same or nearly so in the last release. In negative fairness yeah they really should have done more than nothing to update that. As Strive has shown us recently the worst thing a FG can do is make it hard to actually play the people you want (or anyone at all in the case of GD duel station errors).
  2. The classic ransom technique for one of these releases. Not being a dick: has that ever actually worked? I can't think of any examples off the top of my head but I also don't know that I have followed every instance of it close enough to know. Regardless hopefully PS+ gives this the push it needs. We need more 3D fighters out there. That space is looking weirdly grim right now.
  3. Man, tell me about it. I've had the good fortune of getting some longer +R sets in recently (an hour or so) and by the end of them my brain is always kind of melted. Especially if it was playing the same person in a really long set. Super fun but I definitely don't have the mental fortitude I used to (though I think that is something you can sort of train back up). Actually talking about SFV: in ye olde SRK days Akhos would usually be down for like 2-3 hour sessions. I was absolutely flattened by the end of those especially after dealing with his Ed/Ken/Cody pressure. Meanwhile he being in his 20s he would always lament when my old ass would tap out. 😆
  4. Let me get this thread started off right: Who's excited to play VF and GG?? I know I am! 🙃
  5. No SF since SF:TMTG has had the fucking balls to implement the Slammaster throw system and the world is demonstrably worse because of it.
  6. I know Tubb was angling to go pretty hard into VF5FS. I think he was still out getting his full back tattoo of the cast so not sure when he'll be ready to play. I'll download it - the price is right - and if it lines up I'll happily mash away with Lion at some point.
  7. So I've been throwing on Ryan Hunter's replay reviews while doing hobby stuff. Some really good stuff in the ones I've watched so far (I started at the most recent and am working my way backwards). He does a great job of explaining things (sometimes maybe a little too thorough of a job but hey better too much than not enough) and its a really good way to get insights into +R in general along with a lot of the cast. Bonus points if your character comes up and you get new tech. Worth a look for anyone on the +R train, and also worth bearing in mind for when Strive comes out in case he starts making stuff for that.
  8. They probably were. I have very little practical experience with SFIV (I'm with Darc on that game) but I do have some time in on SFV and one of the things with this game is that the characters all feel kind of homogeneous. There is a lot of frame data repeated throughout the cast(probably unavoidable as it creeps up to 45 chars) which I feel like you really feel around the mediums (strong/forward). In a game where you hit a lot of medium buttons having them all feel kind of samey does make the cast kind of blend together that way. Over time I've become a member of the "missing prox normals" camp, just for the variety they'd add to the up close game. Regardless of the specifics I think the devs probably though/hoped that the V system would provide that strong character individuality but I don't think it quite worked out that way. I think its mostly to prompt some kind of discussion. An honest tier list of this game has a shitload of people hanging out in the middle with most of the discussion revolving around who is tops or knocking on that door. And since those characters haven't shifted all that much over the course of the game's life I think at this point long term players are sick of those discussions. So why not slice it up into 12 different tiers and then let people argue over if their character is C or C- or Clambda.
  9. If the shoe fits... 😛 Jokes aside she seems to fit your speedy/aggressor streak and as EC mentioned she has some layers past that. Plus hey who doesn't like being able to just hammer on buttons sometimes?
  10. The minute EC started talking about Pai I thought that was gonna be your char. I totally forgot Lion existed. I hate that stupid little shit of a character with all my heart but Mantis style is GOAT Kung fu and I remember him being fun and obnoxious to play.
  11. After watching that video you now know 95% of all you need to know to either play as or against May. Finally ran into one in +R the other day. Sort of sucks because HoS doesn't feel like he has great anti dolphin tools (a phrase I'd never though I'd type in my life; another reason FGs are great) but I still really enjoyed the match up because it's so loopy and aggro.
  12. I fully plan to blame all of my losses on not being able to block due to the shitty netcode. With the dark reality being that I will never ever remember there is a guard button.
  13. I've never really jived with that argument. Yeah you have to pay for PS+ but if your primary platform is PS you are probably going to do that anyways just to be able to play stuff online (which is a whole 'nother discussion but that at least isn't going anywhere this generation). For awhile you just used to have to eat the cost of Gold/PS+ and then they started buttering us all up with games as part of the deal. Maybe "free" isn't accurate but "bonus" sure seems to be. Plus I think you can consider it as "free" when it is a game you were fully prepared to pay full retail for, then they just kick it to you as part of PS+. Its nice when that lines up. Delay code kinda bites but like you said, fuck it just play and hopefully it holds up well enough. Mattatsu and I can reliably play Rev2 and that is delay from MD, USA to Partytown, CAN (no clue where he is exactly though I should probably know after all these years of random convos).
  14. @MattatsuI didn't realize you played Ky during the Strive beta (check the name on the 1st player in this vid)
  15. Because a big strong black woman potentially kicking the shit out of them probably scares Japan as much or more than Godzilla? By transforming her into just "kinda tan" everyone can safely jerk off to her without feeling threatened. I'm with you though her skin tone shift is dumb.
  16. Yeah I find it sort of delicious but also depressing that this stupid ugly shitty lobby that ArcSys is married to (like you said, at this point probably for some business reason but also maybe just good 'ol fashioned stubbornness) is what is going to be the main pain point of Strive. Netcode is great, the game is fun to play (for what it is, definitely not for all tastes), and it looks fantastic. But damn, that lobby. I do think it'll get sorted out over time but that intermediate period is gonna suck. Never underestimate that Japanese stubbornness I just mentioned. You have Capcom out there running SFV tournaments online with their jank netcode FFS, with all of the hiccups that go along with that, after years of it being thoroughly documented that SFV's netcode was not up to that task. Or DBFZ trying to run an online circuit with it's online. Some folks up high hope willful blindness will get them by. I could see a VF5 "exhibition" at EVO so they can engineer that the connections don't suck. Of course I'd love to be wrong and it has sick rollback under the hood. We'll know for sure soon! I'll happily mash away at VF5. Dunno how into it I'd get exactly (I'm leaning into GG as hard as I can with my old man schedule) but it'd be great to play regardless. Count me in for the inaugural MS VF5 lobby, schedule permitting.
  17. I think Strive's will hold up. You'll definitely see a lot more negative incidents once it is out in the wild but that is probably going to be due to volume more than anything else. +R's netcode is great and Strive's seems to have as good or better bones than that, so I think that'll be all good. What is more of a going concern is if they can nail down the match connection issues that have been one of the bugbear issues during the betas. Something like that is probably going to be way worse at launch (I anticipate having to hang out in +R for a bit). Re: VF5FS, I wish all the VF heads all the best but I think if that game had rollback they would have said something about it. Its enough of a buzzword that I feel like you make that a big fat bullet point. Plus it has only been relatively recently that Japanese devs have started to treat rollback as something other than THE FORBIDDEN JUTSU. That said, hopefully whatever delay code they have is good. I'll always prefer rollback but delay can work depending on how it shakes out. The real tinfoil hat is that they ported the game to the Yakuza engine. Between that and how the Yakuza games had that VF energy in a lot of ways, I think that supports the theory that Sega is scouting a possible new VF game. Now *that* is a sexy thought. Also I'll definitely download VF5. I have pretty much zero interest in VF but I've had a good time when I've played it in the past. And Vanessa continues to be rad.
  18. I think with Kum and Bedman they hit on the quirkiness of GG characters but definitely didn't make a solid connection. They're a little....too quirky. But hey better to try than not. If you were ever going to play Pot this definitely seems like the game to do it. The way this game plays is going to be a lot more welcoming to his archetype than past GGs have been. And yeah GG on the hitbox is a lot of noise. Just doing regular stuff makes it sound like you are a Korean Starcraft player. I should be around later tonight. Meeting up with a buddy today probably to hang out for a bit but I think that'll be more mid-day. If you end up with time in the evening hit me up and if I can hop on I definitely will.
  19. No worries bro, I know how life shakes out sometimes. Hope everything is good. If you're free tomorrow evening I can probably swing some game time. Also Rev2/char stuff:
  20. No worries the way my day shook out playing before 4 wouldn't have worked out anyways. I'll ping you on here when I'm free later. Will probably be a bit after 10pm. Re: chars (spoiler tagging for anyone that somehow cares)
  21. What happened to the Ken HP Uppercut Fiesta??? (j/k I read the SFV thread. Fuck SFV's hobbled netcode.) I'm up for Rev2 sometime this weekend. I'll be free this afternoon until probably 4ish, then I'll be back around probably after 10. Will also have time tomorrow but that is a developing situation. I kinda want to do the same thing I did with HoS and learn an Xrd character I think isn't going to show up again but I don't like any of the obvious candidates. Maybe Jack-O.
  22. In fairness it does seem like HP DPs are the way to go. Its firey and everything! I'll let you know about the weekend. It'll probably be more early afternoon again for the most part. Sunday will probably be more open, already have something Saturday evening.
  23. I'd be up for trying the PC version since I finally got it to work. Still haven't bought the CE upgrade so if you see me mysteriously playing one of the core 16 you know why. 😀 Not sure how it lines up but I'll be around tonight from 4-5, maybe 5:30. If you're still feeling Ken-y over the weekend I can probably swing some time then as well.
