  1. It's seriously tiring to argue with people who have their nostalgia tinted glasses superglued to their head. Today I was talking to a guy who said that ST HD Remix was 'superfluous' because ST was already perfect. When I pointed out that there's abusable stuff that even players at the highest level can't counter reliably (Hyoubal, Boxer throw loops) he said that people should just 'git gud and adapt'. Translation: "I don't want a balanced cast, I want to use the same braindead, overpowered moves/strategies that I have been exploiting for the past 20 years. Don't force me out of my comfort zone by making me adapt to a new, less lop-sided meta." Now, don't get me wrong; I love ST, and it's actually my 3rd favorite fighting game of all time. But to say it is 'perfect' is completely asinine. We then went on and compared ST to more recent mainline SF titles. He and I agreed that SFV is complete garbage, but I told him that, off the top of my head, I could list at least three things that even an abomination of a game like SFV does better than ST: 1. Character balance. No discussion here, ST's balance is awful. Not surprising, considering it obviously never had a balance patch and the developers had a very limited reference frame back in the days: barely any internet, very little community input, etc. The developers should be credited for getting a lot more things right than wrong, though. Having said that, SFV had better balance right out of the gate, which is, however, hardly an accomplishment these days. 2. Throw mechanics. The SFII-wide throwing mechanic is godawful. It's basically a coin toss as to who gets the throw, and if you don't have a reversal and your opponent's throw outranges yours, prepare to be tick thrown over and over again and not being able to do anything about it. This is compounded by the fact that throws are some of the most damaging moves in the game and you can't even jump to escape them as throws grab you out of the first airborne frames. "Just take the throw." Yeah, that's all you can do in ST. I have to hold my nose while typing this, but 3rd Strike got this right (apart from the 3rd frame glitch, as 3rd Strike can't get anything completely right) and it's good that they never looked back after implementing this system. 3. Transgender representation. ST had none, whereas SFV had Poison and SFIV had Makoto. OK, the last point is a bit of a stretch. Too long; didn't read version: nostalgia isn't all it's cracked up to be.
  2. Yes, let's appoint Cipher as Megashock's ambassador, what could possibly go wrong?
  3. Has anyone played HSF2 online yet? Is there a sizeable playerbase for PS4? How's the netcode?
  4. More brilliant journalism from Gamespot. I guess time for actual research is cut short when you're too busy having to memorize all 73 gender pronouns.
  5. In other words: there's now no reason to pick O. Sagat. The game is obviously completely imbalanced anyway, so I wonder why they felt compelled to make that one change.
  6. The guy who yells the loudest that he doesn't take this forum seriously is on here 20 hours a day downvoting every single post of everyone who hurt his little feelings. Mrs. Cipher, you're a petty little girl.
  7. English apparently not being one of them. Ich spreche übrigens auch Deutsch, du Wichser.
  8. Doesn't necessarily have to be a defensive mechanic. If jab-checking and/or far-reaching normals with good hitboxes are a thing again, this punish would be a boon for offensive-minded players as the turtlers can't just pre-emptively press buttons for the hell of it. CE Guile's low forward comes to mind. Speaking of far-reaching normals, it seems the animations match the hitboxes much better than in SFV, and characters don't need to connect with their crotch anymore to land a roundhouse kick.
  9. This is a bit of a sensitive topic for Makoto players 😭 Days-since-Makoto-last-appeared-in-an-SF-game-counter: 4,425
  10. One of Europe's best C&C players once told me that RTS are easy as long as you can multitask well; if you can't, don't even try to git gud at them, it's a hopeless endeavor. He might've been on to something, I've been playing for years and I'm still laughably bad at C&C. Also, what the hell is Cipher on about shooters being more difficult than FGs? You just aim and press a button, a lobotomized chimpanzee could do that. Tons of Twitch streamers prove that every day. Days-since-Makoto-last-appeared-in-an-SF-game-counter: 4,423
  11. Yeah, Fei Long and T. Hawk should be included. I also wouldn't be opposed to Hakan, Abel and Cody returning. Days-since-Makoto-last-appeared-in-an-SF-game-counter: 4,422
  12. SFIV had both Seth and Bison, so a new villain can co-exist with our favorite dictator. I'd like to see all of the WW bosses return. In fact, just add the bosses as DLC and then call it a day. No more need for any other characters. Especially not any returning ones.
  13. "Why can't I play Darkstalkers characters in my Street Fighter game!?" The WWs are the staple characters of the numbered SF series. They tried replacing them in III and the game's sales didn't live up to expectations, simple as that. If you want to use Alpha characters then go play Alpha games or pester Capcom for Alpha 4. It seems as though some people think that Capcom is just throwing names into a hat and decides that way who makes the cut. It costs over a million US dollars to develop a fighting game character; it's not as if they just add them on a whim, they know exactly who should be included and why. Ever think that maybe a billion dollar company with its own inhouse marketing strategists might have access to metrics, statistics and other knowledge regarding consumer behavior that random people on a forum are unaware of? It's almost as if they don't base their decisions on the latest Eventhubs poll. Daily reminder that Blanka is in the launch roster of SF6, so you can all go suck it. All that's left for me to do is downgrade to the cheapest Wi-Fi plan once the game is out.
  14. Two days since the roster leak and still no sign of Makoto anywhere Days-since-Makoto-last-appeared-in-an-SF-game-counter: 4,421
  15. I was just trolling Volt, but I suppose it is kind of a reverse comeback mechanic if it gets drained on hit.
  16. Reverse comeback mechanic. Another genius move by Capcom, after kicking Makoto to the curb.
  17. Wash your mouth, fool. We don't take kindly around these parts to people who insult Blanka-sama.
  18. It's heart-warming to see how everybody is so thrilled about Blanka's return. Rest assured, I share your enthusiasm that our feral little bundle of joy has reclaimed his rightful spot as Brazil's representative. However, that roster leak can't be accurate, can it? I mean, where's Makoto? Surely, the 'most popular requested character' would be a shoo-in for SF6? What happened? I think this is going to be another game where she'll be MIA. I'm afraid the only way we'll ever see her again is if she gets a guest spot in some free-to-play mobile puzzle game.
  19. If the latter, then at least half of the former as well, most likely...
  20. Italy are a true enigma; how the hell do you manage to sandwich a European Cup win between missing out on two World Cups?
  21. Yeah, if every character were unique, meaning no gazillion shoto clones, I'd be happy to have 40+ characters. I would add meterless reversals to your list, and no jump-in combos that take 75% of your health combined with gimped AAs.
  22. One of my favorite FG franchises tainted by Tekken, woe is me 😭 What an unholy abomination. What's next, MK11 with Smash Bros. skins? Watching this trailer gave me the same gross feeling I had when I translated some Harlequin-esque dime novel trash where the squeaky clean, pristine maiden princess is brutally deflowered by the lowbrow, uncouth village drunk.
  23. Never understood it either. I always considered it mid as well, along with 0. My favorites being 2, 1, 4 and 3, with 5 and 6 being garbage tier. I just couldn't get into 7 but I liked 8. The RE series is funny like that, every new entry can be great, utter garbage or anywhere in between.
  24. I think it’s time for a proper Bigtochiro-appreciation thread. He just liked two of my old-ass posts again. Man’s like an archeologist, unearthing our writing like ancient relics and preserving it for posterity. He watches over our posts, passing judgement on them as He sees fit and doing the Lord's work by imposing His wisdom upon on us. Big T is the true son of God, and not that other guy.
