Apparently some Castlevania speedrunners have their eye on PoP Edit: Started playing the demo and this game is really fun and looks great. Kinda wish it wasn't an Ubisoft title, but I'm definitely copping this when it goes on sale

I saw another one of those playing a different song, want to say it was Metallica or something and it was pretty interesting. They sound like beginner guitar & drum students I used to teach. They do ok getting the bare basic chords and beats down but there's a lot of nuanced stuff, like the little percussive attacks Cobain would make before he changed chords in the chorus section, or the little snare ticks Grohl would make here and there that are a big part of the riffs that are missing. They're not bad but I'm not worried yet 🤣

I honestly think being on the receiving end of Moment 37 is the thing he's most famous for despite all the other accolades he's gotten and it chaps his ass even if just a little.

I've seen a few tweets where it seems like he's past the point of laughing it off. Even 3sOE had a combo trial where you play as Ken and have to do what Daigo did to pass it. Seems like he'll never be able to live it down because people keep bringing it up even 20+ years later which I can imagine starts to get annoying.

It's easy enough to say "don't buy them" but these companies are using psychological techniques to sell them. It's actually manipulative in a way that saying "don't buy them" almost misses the point.

Wong did what probably most people in his situation would have done because vs most people it was a pretty safe bet. It's just unfortunate that he was facing Daigo at the time, one of the few people where even a normally safe bet like that isn't a sure thing. I understand why it makes him feel like shit, especially when most of the people clowning him would have done exactly what he did.

Yeah music has definitely never been emphasized that much in the series although some of the songs from the first game areas close to being iconic in the series as you can get. As for the hit effects, I think it's a stylistic choice that is exclusive to those games. The hit sounds from SF2 through 3 were pretty iconic too, like if you walked into a loud arcade, you could hear them above the din of everything else, same as that 3 note motif from the original MK title screen. They're exaggerated like almost everything else in MK which is consistent with its presentation. So while I get that they might not be everyone's cup of tea, they're definitely something that says "MK" at least to me. As for the animations, did you play 11 at all? The animations are pretty buttery smooth in that game across the board. It was a jump production wise from previous games.

Warrior Within was the one I think I played (got it the same time I got my first PSP.) It was cool but I guess I was expecting something else and never wound up finishing it. Maybe I'll have to give it another shot. I missed the 2008 PoP game. This new one looks pretty huge though, I'm definitely going to keep tabs on it. I also need to play Super Metroid to completion. I have a buddy who's into speedrunning it and I've never even finished it so it's on my short list of games.

That Prince Of Persia game looks pretty interesting. I played the OG PoP on the GameBoy when I was a kid and loved it, but wasn't as keen on the stylized rebooted games from the early aughts, but this looks like a happy medium.

I read a piece yesterday (written by a socialist of all things) about how blocking streets for protests works in Latin America because of things like what you mentioned here. He went on to say that here in the US, protesters see the public as an enemy to overcome moreso than a group to ally with and that's the impetus behind blocking the streets even though it doesn't work here. Was pretty interesting.

It's not as bonkers as it sounds. When I was on Obamacare, my income often hovered around the eligibility cap, so if I made a little more, I'd have to work harder to find write offs or just underreport cash income or I wouldn't have healthcare. Also, poor people don't often know what kinds of subsidies they qualify for.

I think I'd take the murderbots over a glut of terrible AI generated games 🤣
