Nintendos thing this generation has been much more dlc and event focus because they never have been in the past. It’s why games like Arms, XBC2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 got a year+ of support whether it was patches that added free stuff, quality of life updates (not including patches) and DLC.

While this is true you also don’t want your second party games to churn out a sequel/spin off to the same games over and over and over again which is what several companies do, Nintendo included and it’s gross. Sony could easily bring back a lot of the franchises mentioned and more they have in their back pocket that they haven’t used in a while. Sony could also make some big acquisitions themselves if they could grab an Indy studio here and an Indy studio there. The issue Sony is facing is this though: Microsoft knows it heavily relies on the western consumers when it comes to the Xbox SEX, gamepass, etc. So all the companies they’ve been acquiring are basically in the wheel house of what M$ has always provided and what Xbox adopters want. Sony has all but abandoned their home market of Asia and keep trying to push into the western market with big first party epics like Last of Us, Horizon, Dad of War, etc. Which is fine and it’s working but imo it’s short sighted. The more sony does this the more theyre going to drive away people who bought PlayStation hardware for how heavily they supported Japanese developers and publishers like they did from PSOne all the way up until early PS4 days (give or take a few years). If Sony doesn’t answer in kind whether it be with acquisitions of their own (not anything crazy, obviously), more new unique IP’s or reviving old ones there’s a chance M$ will blow right past them and Sony will be in last place. Which is odd for me to even type.

This won’t happen for a while. Whenever M$ buys a new company they always let the company honor whatever contracts they have with any other platform. It’s why Deathloop, Doom, Ghost Wire, etc are still multi platform Activision/Blizzard probably have contracts with Sony and Nintendo that aren’t lapsing any time soon. People are seeing this as a good thing but it honestly really bothers me. Spencer says they’ve acquired so many companies for altruistic reasons like game preservation and such. But like…I only agree to an extent and after so many acquisitions it honestly reeks of bullshit and monopolization to me It’s my main gripe I’ve had with them since that acquisition spree they had a few years ago. You can have all the studios in the world under your leadership but it doesn’t mean dick if they’re not doing shit with them or you’re having them make games no one gives a shit about. M$ has done fuckall with almost all of the studios they’ve acquired outside of “you can play their library on gamepass!” and it’s really bothersome. It feels like they’re buying studios For the sake of buying them so no one else can have them and out of laziness of not wanting to develop their own unique IP’’s. Like yeah, I can play all those companies libraries on gamepass and that’s great but like, when are you going to let them make actual games? Piper is crazy good. From what little I’ve seen of her on the main roster they really watered her down and made her a joke character. But that was when she first debuted on the MR.
