I guess we haven't talked about this but I always find these really interesting and really weird. I wonder why AKI ranks higher than Rashid. I'm pretty sure on paper Rashid is a better character and he also has pull from being in the last game. AKI being as high as she is super interesting. I've noticed a pretty decent uptick in AKI mirror matches. You'd think after her release in September hype would have died down. Maybe Capcom landed on a good newcomer design? DJ jumping in rankings makes sense to me. My guess is that people who play DJ were probably already good at the game so their placement matches probably landed them in Diamond 3-5. So not much work to get to Master. Lily being so low is sad but it makes sense. Game plan is the most plain white bread of the cast and she's just okay. JP dropping in Master makes me wonder if people just labbed the MU or got used to the pace. I used to hate JP during the launch month and now it's like whatever to me. Guile being as low as he is when he usually ranked higher up in SFV is also interesting. For some reason people haven't gravitated over to him in this iteration as much.

Moving to AKI was probably the best decision I've made in 6. Watching high level AKI play I know I haven't even scratched the fucking surface with this character. I always feel like there's so much goofy shit you can do. Doesn't even matter if it's optimal or not. I'm finally able to hit her DR cr.HK into super now which was so fucking hard for me because of the crouching part fucking up my super inputs. My AKI is so dry but when I hit those corner loops I feel like I'm big smart. Snake lady gonna carry me to Master.

This shit crazy. Between T8/MK1/SF6 and GBFV:R fighting games are so jam packed with content it’s unreal.

Kolins season 3 buffs was legendary. I’ll never not give Capcom props for giving her a gun. But I hate how they realized what they created and knee capped her every year after. Fucking sucks. Lily isn't hard to figure out and I still run into more Lily's in Plat/Diamond than AKI. And no one used AKI in gold or below. It's not that people know the AKI MU. My fraud wins are proof of this. The issue is that you gotta play this fucking character with surgical precision or you are taking a dirt nap. I could face roll with Lily because even for a low tier she's fucking braindead. AKI requires too much IQ to play well with and I'm fucking retarded. She's fun though. I scrubbed my way up to Diamond 2 so I might be able to scrub my way up higher. I'd really love to play Elphelt in Strive because she's looks so cute and I mained her (albeit like shit) in Xrd. But I didn't dedicate any time to getting good at the fundies for Strive so going back would require me to put on the training wheels. And with GBFV Rising dropping in a few days I wanna get gud at that game. Fucking sucks I didn't put any time into Strive when it dropped. I blame Capcom for this!!!!!

Jesus if the Elphelt leaks are real I might actually install Strive just to play the bitch. I finally got to Diamond with AKI and I feel like I know less than when I started sometimes. She's so hard to play consistently. With Lily I could just boot up rank and dick around. But with AKI I gotta grind combos to to get my fingers to be ready to DR extenions after everything. Legit making my bones hurty 😞

I think we’re in the ultimate moneys paw reality with this game. We wanted a feature rich fighting game that had the power to steer the ship and correct SFV’s wrongs. We got that. And in turn our curse is that the suites at Capcom will wallet rape us on literally everything that wasn’t base game. It’s actually wild how the pricing on this game works. I whaled out so hard for SFV. The only thing I never bought were the Breast Cancer skins and that was because during that time I wasn’t playing V. I’ve only opened up my wallet once since the game dropped. Feels fucking bad man. Can’t even shill anymore. 😞

Yep AKI is fun. Tier lists have her as the worst character in the game but god damn she’s fun. Almost Diamond and she’s finally starting to feel one with me. Like I don’t have to think when doing her flowchart. I like that muscle memory is kicking in. The hardest shit to do with her is capitalizing off stray poison hits into DR. Watching dudes like Broski just precog all their setups is fucking crazy. The amount of awareness you need to hit that shit is wild. Also her gothic outfit is quite nice.

Fighting games are hard but it can be difficult to define the 'hardness" because so much of what makes then genre hard is granular. There's a reason why pro FPS players don't run in these games. People like fighting games. They like the idea of being Daigo. But most people recognize that the walk is long and hard. Being the best dude in your state means jack shit in this genre. Fuck being the best in your country doesn't mean much. For ultra casuals there's really no easy way to get people in that hasn't already been tried. I usually dislike the doomer mentality people parrot about getting into this genre but if you don't already have the hunger it's never gonna work. The only reason I put up with getting my ass kicked in SFV back during the betas and launch year is because I grew up playing Souls Calibur 2 and CVS2. I grew up watching Latino kids playing Marvel Super Heroes on PS1. The shit fascinated me. I had to see more of it and play more of it. And I mostly played them by myself. And I'm fucking dog shit at these games so imagine someone with less fucks to give that doesn't want to put in the effort.

I finally ran into a few AKI's in rank but only after getting into Plat. She was nowhere in gold. Getting outplayed with your character is some shit man. My AKI is so dry. I always feel like if a character doesn't have a meme button to use in the mid range I feel like I'm at a loss for what to do. I kinda wish AKI's stand feirce wasn't a target combo because I like it's range but the first hit cancels into nothing. Her level 1 is also really bad as an anti air. I already knew her defense was bad but when you play her you really feel that shit. She does have the most fun conversions I've ever seen in this game though. Every time I land something with her from improvisation it makes me feel big brain. I had a few moments where I'd be juggling people but then get scared and wonder if I can close then round. Then I'd just drive rush while they're in mid air and mash out level three and it connects. Got me looking like the Antonia Banderas meme. Her extended hut boxes on her nail whips is monkeys paw shit. I get it, they didn't want a poison Dhalsim. But that's what I needed, that's what we all needed. Outside of her weak defense though she's my girl. SF6 is fun again. Now I just need to actually learn how to apply the sauce.
