  1. Spoiler

DAWKNESSbeard! It all makes sense! In the original translations of the Ace v. Blackbeard chapter pre-timeskip Teach said  to Ace that unlike the other fruits the Yami Yami no Mi came from "The Devil Itself".  Once I saw Imu's form and demonic projections everything made sense. The Flame and the Darkness have squared off once again!  I've been saying that Voidbeard has been lead by an ominous "fate" for ages now, and that he might not be the final enemy but just an agent of this mysterious force, which is now clearly Imu. The translation note also stated that when Imu referred to itself as "Mu" in the 3rd person it corresponded to void/ nothingness aspect of the Yami Yami no Mi. Imu might've created that fruit for the sole purpose to have its bidding done without getting their hands dirty, and Xebec was just another unwitting agent.  Marshall D. Teach and Rocks D. Xebec both have/had their own dreams but were likely being manipulated in their own way.

Also remember the period of time known as the "Void Century" where 100 years of history was erased? The motif of the enemy of dreams and freedom being an absence is quite apparent to me now.  Forget history, forget truth, forget the throne, forget the ONE PIECE...

The first chapter of One Piece... Romance Dawn.

  2. Also I've been mulling over the latest chapter and I think regarding a certain ancestor...

    Spoiler

I obviously have no hard clues to believe it, but I think Lili isn't Imu as many are suspecting. I think she may have been the OG Ope Ope no Mi user who was forced/ cajoled into doing the operation to give Imu their immortality, probably with some threat to her kingdom. Her sacrifice is may be why Alabasta was allowed to retain some of their sovereignty and remain prosperous for centuries. Imu might be a bit sentimental (in their own callous way) as Lili's sacrifice allowed them to retain power over the world.

This also coincides with Doflamingo trying to replicate Imu's gameplan but on a much smaller scale, he needed Law to willingly sacrifice himself with the special operation to grant him immortality as well.

Also it just dawned on me that Imu is "Umi" backwards.  I know that "umi" means sea in Japanese, which means we might've seen Imu's presence pre-timeskip and didn't even realize it...

For those who watched the latest One Piece anime ep 1062. What do you think? As cool as the animation and fight was. I don't really like that it's not grounded in "One Piece Reality" . It's too much ... it's as crazy as DBZ it doesn't represent One Piece at all or what it should be.

Yes! I've been saying this since post-Dressrosa. Too many flourishes and extended cuts ruins the visceral nature of the attacks. The seizure-filled special effects are blinding, distracting and borderline nonsensical at times. One Piece is a bit more gorunded and doesn't need all these auras and fluff. When we do see haki manifesting in black lightning and extra stuff like that it looks epic because you feel the characters had to reach a really high level just to manifest these effects.

If Zoro and Luffy can just generate DBZ SSJ auras casually it doesn't feel like One Piece. Hell, we didn't even see Zoro's direct attack that finished King, which in the manga was an epic ranged slash that sliced through King's Imperial Dragon. In the anime it's just blinding explosive flashes to the aftermath.

Look at Zoro vs Pica and tell me if this isn't more visually grounded while still being epic?

Liked the chapter and all the pieces being moved but despite that T Bone getting merced off screen by a old starving man and a new metal arm waifu being added to the glorious cast... I can't believe I never put the idea of Chopper trying to eat Zeus together until I saw it in the cover image.  Shit had me rolling and I hope it gets animated somehow.

Playing catch-up here but I think T-Bone might've willingly sacrificed himself or went along with the scheme and faked his death. T-Bone was shown to be a compassionate soul in the past and he might've been conflicted with seeing all the mass starvation as well as the World Government turning a blind eye on their suffering and sought a way to balance the scales a bit.

    As for this latest chapter...

    Spoiler

Now we have God Knights?! I don't think that silhouette is Shanks like the rest of the interwebs are saying, but I do think Shanks has some relation to the Celestial Dragons/ Gorosei. He might be descended from noble stock and not the inbred Tenryuubito stock, but the type to inherit Conqueror Haki and be a part of these God Knight group.  I thought the Gorosei were the ones meant to protect Im on all fronts but maybe the God Knights are the last line of defense.

I still wonder about Commander-In-Chief Kong, no mention about his prowess and past history in the story. I'm still curious as to how he fit into all this.

And dang, I really wanted Sabo to mention something about discovering Im with some more details. Hopefully we'll get more info next week...

  5. Now we finally know that when...

    Spoiler

Garp was telling Sengoku to keep holding him down after witnessing Akainu unceremoniously murdered Ace or he'd kill him, we know he wasn't bluffing. Garp wasn't even looking tryhard when he used Galaxy Fist, dude threw that out while laughing without a care in the world.

Kujaku is no slouch, she could sense Pizarro's Island Island fruit ability, which is a pretty broken ability itself, making his ability even more OP than Pica's. I'm still curious about the Glug Glug fruit, if he's able to "drink" anything and recombine it or transmute substances through alcohol. It has some OP potential as well.

The Clay people might be their own race of genetically engineered. It's interesting since the Clay man with the 'Mingo jacket is also a DF user independent from his clay abilities.  This would be the weirdest unheard of race in One Piece by a mile.

Most of all, I'm curious to see Koby's inverse Rokushiki (i.e., he does Rankyaku with his hands and Shigan with his feet, etc.). We got hints of it before but I really like that concept.

GODA still world building even when the series is near its completion...

  6. Spoiler

    HAKI GOD SHANKS!!!

I've waited years to see a moment like this. What I loved most about this chapter was that Shanks didn't take Kidd lightly and moved with absolute ruthlessness... and of course DIVINE DEPARTURE!!! I remember a debate on whether or not Shanks used diplomacy or just sheer threatening force to make Kaido and his crew retreat, and I guess we can confidently say he could easily use both if he so desired.

Also yeah, one of Blackbeard's lackeys is coming. I'm sure it's for either Vegapunk or his tech.

Oh and mild spoilers but Toei just leaked their official New World OST for a certain Yonko this chapter:

S-Flamingo... Didn't Doflamingo use guns before?

    Spoiler

I've been hearing this idea, and while nothing's impossible I have a feeling if Oda went that route then he'd most likely create an S-Bon Clay/ Bentham or a Seraphim with his ability especially for the WG's purposes.  It also makes me wonder if Shadowbeard would have the foresight to use Catarina Devon as an agent on his behalf to steal technology or knowledge?

I gotta give Oda credit, this one has me completely stumped.

  8. YES! Just as predicted!

    Spoiler

S-Hawk having the Supa Supa no Mi just like I predicted a while back since Daz Bones was imprisoned. This means that Crocodile's and Ivankov's abilities might've been copied as well.

Luffy and Zoro's disgust to eventual shaky compromise with Lucci and Kaku makes me feel a bit emotionally ambivalent. Lucci is a completely irredeemable mass murdering psychopath and if this wasn't OP I'd prefer if he was obliterated outright. If he had shown some acknowledgment of Luffy's Emperor status then gotten ordered around by Luffy and Zoro like a rented mule I'd be more willing, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

As for the traitor, I think maybe one of the Vegapunks has reached a state of super ego individuality, and only cares about itself over the group. I wonder if Vegapunk is in seastone cuffs and if this somehow turns off his ability and his connection to the hive mind? If it is, it's probably the one we least expect. The Plug Vegapunk guy hm...?

And now for the main event! Haki God Shanks. We knew Shanks was a Yonko but this is the first time in the manga where we've seen a fleet of loyalists. Kidd seems to be back for revenge but I  hope he has a solid gameplan since based on the dialogue he lost his arm before he even saw Shanks himself; and nothing Kidd showed during Wano gives me concern for Shanks and his core crew. I wonder if a haki-clad sword can resist the effects of electromagnetism from Kidd's DF though?

Please Goda, please show us the fight and not the aftermath! 🙏

Still don't need this. No one asked for it. I don't care if it somehow turns out good I won't watch because I already have what I want in the manga and yes even the anime has its moments.

    100% Co-Sign...

I have not a single ounce of hope in this "Western modern audience" translation of a unique series like this ever being good in any way shape or form. CW/ Netflix-fied One Piece makes me shudder at the thought.

The funny thing is an honest fanmade short would probably be more charming even with cheesy SFX and homemade costumes, because it'd be produced by people with a genuine understanding and passion for the series rather than this crap. Like I don't care if the Luffy's actor is Brazilian or w/e this isn't what makes One Piece beloved.

It's hard to say how strong they are now but I suspect that they were at least very strong in their prime. It takes a lot of power to be able to hold people like the Admirals on a leash. Then again maybe Imu is the one who is holding everything together. But now that I think about it, people don't talk a lot about the Gorosei and we never even heard them fighting even in Roger's era... at least from what we know so far. I'm also curious to know what their connection with Shanks is. If they're not intimidated by him, I guess it tells us a bit more about how strong they could be.

Not that this means everything in the One Piece world but we've seen the size of the Gorosei compared to Admirals and Shanks and they're larger than normal. I have a feeling their fealty to Im is due to being living relics of the Void Century, likely surviving due to Ope Ope no Mi.

I said this a far while back but Doflamingo's grand plot in Dressrosa was basically replicating the machinations of "Mariejoa's Secret Treasure" aka Im. Im clearly has immortality, Doflamingo wanted the same immortality via Law performing the surgery. Im has an entire kingdom with a central core of ultra-loyalists maintaining everything, Doffy had the same for the most part. Doflamingo's Ito Ito no Mi ability is basically the physical manifestation of the puppeteering people to do his bidding, Im has been doing with the World  Government and its allies for centuries.

Doflamingo was trying to copy Im's playbook but couldn't due to Strawhat (Joyboy)  Luffy aka "God's Natural Enemy", especially since Im's main factor of control is their complete anonymity. It seems even the Admirals and CP0 are completely unaware of Im's existence. This allows a level of passive control and tyranny of society Donquixote couldn't imagine, which made him a clear target.

How does this tie into the Gorosei? Their loyalty was probably rewarded with immortality and power ages ago, the Gandhi dude with the giant almost certainly Legendary sword likely wielded it at some point. Each of them probably has some governance over a quadrant of the OP world. For example, the blonde youngest one controls the North Blue, etc...  In any case, this doesn't have to mean they are as proficient at fighting as a Yonko, but I'm sure they're no slouches.

The real problem is that a Gorosei's command to the Seraphim  supersedes all other instructions, making his presence incredibly dangerous by default.

On 1/19/2023 at 6:58 PM, Reticently said:

Well, I'm guessing he might not be Whitebeard's kid by natural means, if you follow me.  Just speculation, of course, but it's hard to imagine family man Whitebeard casting his own kid aside.

Oda did an amazing job of building up to this moment with Bad Future elderly Stussy.

    Spoiler

Weevil is likely a Frankenstein's monster of cadavers and Whitebeard's lineage factor thrown in, making a  dumb monstrosity. Stussy probably got turned down by Whitebeard one too many times and decided to take matters into her own hands.

The creation of Edward Weevil could've been done through a trade, her Lineage Factor to the scientists (which created her clone) for a "son" of Whitebeard. The son was most likely hastily created by the group since Stussy was insufferable and they wanted to be rid of her.

It's interesting that Zoro sensed a trace of humanity in S-Hawk, meaning that in the future some Seraphim might develop a stronger sense of self that can override their programming. I wouldn't be surprised if meeting their originals could trigger that effect.

Kuma OG or S-Kuma could also "push" the mental-blocks out of the Seraphim too, who knows?...

    PEAK PIECE!!!

  11. I would like the fight to be manga accurate. Just like vs Doflamingo, once Luffy attains his new form Lucci should get mollywhopped like in manga canon. They can extend the initial clash but once Luffy goes into high gear there should be no dispute that G5 Luffy is wrecking shop. One of the things I hate about the timeskip era anime are the hyper-extended forced trades and clashes that show Luffy or Zoro struggling when these moments never happened. It cheapens the moment and makes them look weaker.

Luffy's King Kong Gun obliterated Doflamingo's Heavenly Threads in the manga but in the anime it showed Luffy struggling for 3 minutes, which makes no sense because of how the attack works, this isn't a beam clash. Conversely, Kaido's Thunder Bagua in the manga utterly speed blitzed G4 Luffy before he could even move which showed how dominant he was, but the anime retcons things which takes away from the narrative quality. Those are my two cents anyway.

That said, that depiction of Luffy vs Lucc part deux is fantastic, mucho props to the creator.

  12. Lucci is such a damn hater...

    Spoiler

Take the Rob, it's in your name. Can't take that Luffy is an emperor now. You MAD!

I wonder how much of Kuma's decisions are built in protocols and how much is him actually reacting to the current situation?

Elbaf, the fabled land of Usopp's dreams, I have no clue what to expect there. The last time we were privy to their society was during Big Mom's flashback.  I wonder how much has changed since those decades?

I have a feeling that Garp is going to wreck shop but his need to carry the rest of his Marines is going to work against him against bigger unscrupulous pirates like DocQ, sniper Van Auger and Muscleman Burgess. Garp may no be a pushover but this might be his limit.

  13. So much to unpack in the last 2 chapters, Lore Piece is maxing out. Gear 5 Luffy is showing even more ridiculous abilities.

Although subtle G5 Luffy producing functional glasses from his hair is next level. It makes me think that a Luffy with a full realization of his abilities will be able to produce objects and shape his environment to his liking... Which might mean physically mending the Red Line and easily "destroying" Fishman Island as predicted.

I loved how despite the impressive upgrade Lucci could barely hold on, even though he overwhelmed Sentomaru's defenses, a man Luffy couldn't even touch with Gear 2nd pre-timeskip. A true emperor. I can't wait to see arguably the second most theoretically broken DF user Kizaru fares against the Mugiwaras.

S-Hawk is an interesting one, my guess is that they gave him the Supa Supa no Mi so he can still slice and dice without his replica sword and Daz Bones was a prisoner in Impel Down.  My theory is also that Vegapunk gave these artificial beings Lunarian physiology to make up for the fact that they can't utilize Haki, since Haki literally translates to "ambition" and they have none.  I will elaborate more later because the Lineage Factor is a very fascinating topic that will take some time to delve into.

Also, those WG agents that turned to stone from kid S-Hancock's  Mero Mero no Mi need to get their statues destroyed immediately...

  14. 3 hours ago, Reticently said:

To be fair, Oda has established that there are limits to Vegapunk's understanding.  It looks like lots of his inventions don't work out the way he planned.

He has more raw info than anyone else, but his synthetic comprehension seems to be in roughly the same tier as the other geniuses in the series (which is probably why he has a pattern of collaboration with people, including his clones).

Good point, like Judge Vinsmoke seems to have a finer-tuned understanding on manipulating the Lineage Factor than Vegapunk, at least in the past. Well knowing his brain ability definitely explains why Im finds him more of a liability.

  15. 2 Chapter Recap

    Spoiler

I never thought I'd get as emotional about Jaguar D. Saul being alive but I felt Robin's feels. I can't wait for the reunion. The library of Ohara's books will probably be disseminated to the world in future, upending all the efforts of the World Government which would be glorious to see.

I'll admit, I'm a bit disappointed that Vegapunk's abilities are partially attributed to a DF but it makes sense. He was clearly a genius beforehand anyway.

Like I expected Vegapunk is a perfectionist with his "failed" Devil Fruit being  99% copy of Kaido's was hilarious. Meanwhile, Caesar Clown is celebrating his garbage Smile fruits, the irony. His brain being cloned and gaining the experiences and knowledge of 6 individuals in pretty awesome, I think if this was a different manga this kind of thing would backfire hard with these clones turning on OG Vegapunk at some point but yeah. Logic aka Shakka is easily my favorite of his clones.

This robot being resurrected  after 200 years was probably a response to something involving Fishman island, I think it was programmed to attack the current descendants of those who attacked the advanced civilization since still have the same "lineage signature" as their ancestors.

The concept of a power source being so advanced even Vegapunk can't comprehend it means that it might be a power that transcends scientific understanding. It might be transcendental in nature like Haki/ life force/ etc. or just a mini-sun, but we'll see....

I feel this arc will be instrumental in the Strawhats dealing with the Space Pirates/ Enel and the moon people, since they're definitely connected.

  16. LORE PIECE!

So much to unpack this chapter that I have to read it one more time.  Seeing that ancient giant robot rocks because ever since the flashback with Nico Oliva and Ohara  revealing the lost advanced civilization  (still my top 5 OP chapters) I have been waiting too long  for Vegapunk's arrival. As I've been theorizing Vegapunk has been more or less discovering past tech from the forgotten past and using it as inspiration. The impressive part is that he has the knowledge and skills to use this knowledge to create his own tech or offshoot abilities. Shaka being Logic is probably the closest to his true self, and his words might be the truest intentions. His design looks vaguely inspired by something but I can't remember what...

It also seems like Vegapunk has more or less mastered the lineage factor as he can splice different races to create novel hybrids, also including devil fruit abilities and even latent skills like with the Jimbei seraphim knowing fishman karate. At first I thought it was only Zoans that could be mimicked since they are more biological in nature but now it seems even Paramecia abilities are possible. Logias and mythical DFs might have special properties to make them even more challenging to replicate and go beyond the standard rules of replication. In any case, having these seraphim present around the world and functioning as pseudo-Shichibukai presents an existential threat not only to our Strawhat superheroes  but the entire world. The game has changed because it's crazy how much harder, better, faster, and stronger than the previous Pacifistas due to having super-robust Lunarian physiology, hinting Lunarians are augmented beings themselves.

As for Vegapunk himself, it seems he's been able to divide his core biological functions into individuals, but essentially he's human after all. As we're near the end of the line I hope we'll get lucky and he'll unpack the whole mystery of the void century and the name of this mysterious island before CP-0 comes for him; I've waiting nearly 18 years for this epic discovery.

And as a final note, the combat abilities of a Fishman that can swim and utilize different materials as water is pretty broken and a fresh concept. Throwing "solid" metal or stone as if it was water can not be underestimated. I wonder when Jimbei and the seraphim make contact if there'll be a father and son relationship, well if its even alive and can sense emotion that is...

  17. Spoiler

Van Auger and Aokiji's team up was in the past, I still don't know Kuzan's agenda but I'm sure none of the crew still don't trust him.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see that Oda showed more of the fight between Schwarzbeard and his pirates. Law has definitely levelled up but I think we all know he won't be able to last for long, but a valiant effort especially by his North Blue crew who I thought would have to be completely carried by their captain. Law is likely more aware of Teach's Yami Yami no Mi's abilities than Ace which might be his only way to escape defeat... by fleeing that is.

Zoro and Brook serving as a vanguard for when the CP-0 arrive to assassinate Vegapunk is an exciting setup, I really want to see how a post-Wano Zoro handles them.

Speaking of which Vegapunk not only acknowledging he senses the end is near and being rather resigned to his fate is interesting. I wonder if he committed an actual transgression or just knew too much.

Bonney's ageing ability still intrigues me, it shows a possible future for old Luffy— which based on how much of his lifespan has been sacrificed throughout the series  I don't think he'll make it to 70. Awakened her ability can probably age inanimate objects similar to the Rust Rust fruit which would be pretty cool.

Bartholomew Kuma being of a certain special race? His physiology doesn't look distinct so I'm quite surprised by this. I thought the established races were more than enough but now there might be a brand new one is crazy.

A few things I wanted to talk about last chapter but didn't post in time:

    - Oda solidifying that with enough Haki you can override certain abilities was good, since people were complaining how Kaido and Big Mom couldn't be affected by Law's Room which was unprecedented back then. To me it made sense but w/e...

    - I found it interesting that the Kurohige Pirate captains all took abilities that made them more of what they already are, with Van Auger's teleportation ability being especially useful. I had Usopp pinned as his final opponent but he needs to level up beyond his observation haki, which he hasn't really definitively since Dressrosa.

    - Teach's way of doing things is what makes him the most "piratey" pirate IMO. Even though he has the fate hax effect working in his favor he's also smart enough to position himself in the right places. If he gets the hand on those copies of the poneglyphs he might end up being the first to Laugh's Tale.

Nah- it's seems like a classic "they've learned too much" move.  Im really doesn't need Punk's help to stay on top, so Punk was only ever going to be safe as long as Im wouldn't feel threatened by him/them.

Keeping any strong devilfruit away from Blackbeard is a win for the World Government, and having Bonney in custody would probably be useful leverage against the Revolutionary Army given Kuma's background.  At the very least, Akainu seems like he'll usually go through the motions of putting captured pirates on trial before he executes them.  Hell, maybe he wanted to stage a public execution for Bonney to lure out the RA like then did with Ace and WB?

    Spoiler

That would make sense except it doesn't appear that Jewelry Bonney was ever imprisoned afterwards, more like rescued and sent on her merry way considering she was able to infiltrate Mariejoa with surprising ease on her own. Also Akainu's temperament in that scene was one more of familiarity than utter contempt like he displays with nearly everyone else. It would be unusual for Oda to show such a scene and have Bonney magically escape without her mentioning it in some way.

As for Kuma losing he personality, now that we know the Punks probably have fragments of Vegapunk's full personality, Kuma's personality is probably deeply supressed a la "The Sunken Place" in Get Out than deleted.

  19.

    Just as expected...

    Spoiler

Vegapunk has split his self into multiple parts, but I'm guessing his true self is probably in stasis to preserve his life. He might be too old or exhausted to do any serious grunt work.

Photonic gloves seem like a nice hint of future tech against *certain* adversaries. Franky or Nami could make good use of that weapon. So far Vegapunk's island has lived up to expectations, I can see why Vegapunk split himself as well, he's probably ridiculously lonely on top of being busy.

It's crazy that the WG/Im have found the greatest genius too much of a liability to keep alive. I guess Im finally got the weapon to end all weapons, or has found another scientist willing to do much more dark research even Vegapunk was against. Unfortunately this kind of move will unwittingly push Vegapunk to the side of the Mugiwaras.

Luffy being on the cusp of Gear 5 after being duped with the holographic food was funny... I wonder if he can actually transform that easily now or that was just a comedic effect?

What's crazier is finding out Bonney is Kuma's daughter,  I was totally wrong in thinking she was actually an old woman. What makes this confusing is why Akainu rescued her from Wesley-Snipesbeard  when normally he would eradicate all pirates on the spot. This makes me believe that Dragon and Kuma might have a kinship of sorts in that they had relations with Celestial Dragon women or something (essentially making Bonney royalty by birth). Because I can't think of a reason Akainu— who has sanctioned the nuking of islands and killed his own soldiers for desertion would let Jewelry Bonney, daughter of one of the leaders of the Revolutionary Army and a notorious pirate free.

    Curiouser and curiouser...

Vegapunk will have clones/variants of herself. young, old, male, cyborg ish like Franky.

    THIS!

    Spoiler

The fact that Oda made sure to note that her speech patterns were that of an old timer makes me believe either these are M. Bison~esque host bodies— hence the Punk 02 classification. Why would they want to risk any danger to their real and possibly decrepit form anyway?  Although Oda has made false silhouettes before in the past (like Kaido pre-timeskip) I'm pretty sure Vegapunk was named as a man.

Dr. Vegapunk also spoke about the robo-shark as if they failed to manipulate the Lineage Factor to take  away its base shark-like nature. I think there are 2 possible origins of this character.

    1. Vegapunk is just a pure genius who somehow figured the nature of Devil Fruits and ancient tech on his/her own and made elaborations on it.

    2. Vegapunk is one of the few survivors of the Void Century and witnessed the past tech of that lost civilization. The same civilization responsible for the world-ending tech as well as the Devil Fruits and what we're seeing is not technology that is 500 years ahead but 500 years from the past that got lost to history.

Jewellery Bonney could also be using her ability to de-age Vegapunk as well, since I still believe her true form is that of an old woman like we saw on Mariejoa.

And in 2 weeks, we'll finally, hopefully get what I've been waiting for all these years, a definite explanation behind Devil Fruits and their origin.

    Glorious!

So much going on in these chapters. So much teasing. I need ANSWERS!

    Indeed...

    Spoiler

First thing's first. Im's divine judgment, what a ridiculous display of power. I know that Sabo is alive unless those lasers were infused with haki or seastone energy, I'm pretty sure this was done by Uranus— one of the ancient weapons. I wouldn't surprise me that Im itself has control over it and maybe it was reinvented by Vegapunk. The crazy part is how it was able to mete out punishment so quickly, if it's an airship it was able to reach Lulusia in moment's notice, and if it is a homing weapon then no one is safe.

The second theory is that this is a display of Im's power alone, which is even more terrifying. It would also explain that creature that was so big it made Thriller Bark look like a rubber ducky in the ocean. Im might be able to project its presence anywhere on earth in an instance, but that's a whole other can of worms.

I enjoyed Zoro being the obstinate first mate and using cold hard logic against Luffy and co.'s brash behaviour.  He did the same when Usopp decided to leave the crew back in Water 7 and also when he took Luffy's pain on Thriller Bark. A real G through and through like always.

Jewel Bonney was saved by the heartless Kaido and also seemed to be quite familiar with Mariejoa, so my guess is that she's a former Tenryuubito or affiliated with someone powerful. Since we know Akainu gets a hard on for killing any pirate or person he doesn't like on sight. I can't wait to see what reveals she makes next chapter since she interacted with the Revolutionaries during the reverie and I'm 99% certain her true form is that of the elderly woman, not the kid or "prime" version of herself we've seen.

Honestly, I hope a meeting between Kaido and Luffy will be happening soon, as I've been waiting to see bloodlusted Luffy now that he's gotten some OP upgrades.

  22. So this was a fantastic chapter! Pretty much  the type of exposition chapter that makes me excited for the future:

    Spoiler

First off, it seems Pot-Calling-Kettle_Beard has real plan behind collecting these rare Devil Fruits, even if he can't utilize them fully like Boa said he can donate the ability to a suitable crew member or sell it off to the highest bidder. In addition there's also the possibility that he can combine DF abilities simultaneously. Imagine using the vibrations of the Gura Gura no Mi as a medium for the Mero Mero no Mi's petrification! That'd be ridiculously broken and might bypass the need to enchant the opponent.

Mr. Zehahahaha isn't a fool either, him kidnapping Koby (who seems to have Luffy's pure-heartedness and unaffected by the Mero Mero no Mi) might not just be for intel/ransom purposes but also because he can detect his advanced Observation Haki and thinks it might be of some use. Even before Luffy could utilize haki properly back in Impel Down ore-timeskip, he could detect that Luffy's haki had increased.

Now for my favorite part of the chapter— The new Pacifistas! Very smart on part of the World Government who have have ousted the Shichbukai from their ranks. It seems that Vegapunk has been manipulating the Lineage Factor of certain former slaves (Hancock, King, Kaido, etc.). Cloning King makes sense because of his crazy powerful  race but Hancock is definitely a surprise. With Kaido we can see Vegapunk managed to create a "failed" Uo Uo no Mi fruit that Momo consumed. Makes me wonder if we'll see an ancient giant Pacifista down the line. I'm still patiently waiting for Oda to reveal Vegapunk and finally hear the origin of Devil Fruits after literally 20 years of waiting.

I loved how Oda just slid in how Shakky was the former princess that fell in love with Rayleigh and which is why he was uncharacteristically welcomed into the island. Now Hancock is afflicted with the same "disease".

Oh and Vasco Shot is a sleazy grapist... confirmed.

  23. YES! After the endless online debate the word of Goda finally makes it clear...

    Spoiler

Mihawk is the superior swordsman to Yonko Shanks, It's likely that Red-Haired Shanks is primarily a haki specialist aka "Haki God" .  Also Mihawk's 3,590,000,000 Beri bounty solidifies his Yonko tier status.

Buggy's plight and his reaction to the Cross Guild posters showing him as the leader made me literally laugh out loud. I haven't laughed that much at a One Piece chapter since Luffy nonchalantly shoved that emerging zombie's head back into the ground in Thriller Bark. XD

Sanji keeps taking Ls even though he's now officially in the Billion Beri Boy's Club. Usopp keeps inheriting Luffy's old bounties as per usual, although this one doesn't seemed as earned as before this arc. Hopefully he can rise to the occasion next arc.

Now this is spoiler involving Shanks in OP Movie Red BE WARNED!

    Spoiler

Shanks apparently has an advanced Conquerors ability where they can cancel out Future Sight Observation Haki! He essentially makes them lose focus so they can't fully utilize Observation Haki. He is named "The Killer of Observation Haki"!

And interesting juxtaposition with "Hawkeyes" Mihawk huh?

Honestly, the anime for OP has always been hit-or-miss for me.  I mostly only hunt down the episodes with specific fights or scenes rather than trying to slog through it.

Yes Zoro's Kyuutoru "Jest of the Dead" attack was soooo overdone in the anime that the impact of the strike felt less cool.

I've been gone for a while because I got a new laptop and couldn't remember my password. -_-

    Anyway the recap...

I liked that Yamato got to prove his mettle to his compatriots and gain some self-confidence. I liked that Green Bull showed heightened defenses towards obvious weaknesses like fire, and the scene of the Monster Trio casually relaxing to the scene, confident in their skills was god tier flexing. Which leads me to a minor gripe about the latest chapter, I don't think Carrot's appointment into being the leader of the Minks is well-earned as she has shown no prior interest, made no exceptional sacrifices compared to her peers nor any intrinsic leadership qualities. The contrast between Momo's and Carrot's journey makes this even more apparent. But it is what it is...

Most importantiy... I've been calling Shanks a "Haki God"  for years, and the fact that he could send his Conquerors Haki directly to Green Bull who got shook by it enough to get the hint. *bows*

Sabo and the Revolutionaries wrecking shop, which makes me wonder what Dragon is doing? I feel like he might have his own solitary agenda. I always speculated his fury has to be about what happened with Luffy's mother, who I wouldn't be surprised is/was a Tenryuubito.

Also Oda promised us Vegapunk's reveal after Wano was over, as well as the full explanation of what Devil Fruits are and how they work. It's funny how Vegapunk thought Momonosuke DF was a failure when it's pretty much an X-Copy of Kaido's in almost every way.

I think Basil is dead. It seems to indicate he knew he was going to die based on his predictions but after that it is up in the air. They don't seem to indicate if anyone got help for him (1% is not zero) or Drake. If it is the end for Hawkins unless the retcon some huge feat his status as a big name was a let down.

Precisely. Basil Hawkin's prediction was based on his own odds, and makes him the first Supernova casualty. What is pretty interesting is that rather than try to change the odds he actually stuck to his convictions by siding with Kaido. He compromised by joining Kaido and now had a chance to flee the battle or switch sides but chose to ride out his fate on his own terms. It was the first time we've seen him try to defy the odds and I feel he was tired of the constant pragmatism.

The odds were in favor of the Strawhat alliance all along.
