Kirk Cousins signing with the Falcons is LOLLERSKATEZ

So does this mean @Chadoukenis Falcons fan now? 🙃Justin Fields must be cursed. Dude was rumored to be going to the Falcons or Steelers both of them signed vets. Maybe he can go to the Vikings? I just saw that Saquon Barkley is an Eagle now. Free Agency has already been interesting and it just started.

Nah, man,  I'm sticking with the Vikings.  Cousins worked as a mechanic to pick a different team.  Falcons are nuts to guarantee $100 mill to a guy who's 35 years old,  coming off an Achilles,  and has one playoff win in his career.  They gonna find out

I am REALLY hoping the Vikings draft PENIX. I don't know much about him,  but I want that fucking jersey.

He was really good college QB. The main concerns around him are age, he'll be 24 when the season starts, and injury history. He's had multiple seasons end in injury. And before you ask, yes I know are trolling because his last name is one letter off a certain word.

How the fuck did the Steelers grab both Russell and Fields in the same week??

Smart move on their part. Russell Wilson is going to be with the Steelers 2 years at the most. Mostly likely just the one unless he has an amazing year. Letting Fields sit behind is a really intelligent move.

Hip drop tackles just got banned. 15 yards and automatic first down.

As a Refs fan,  I couldn't be happier

They keep taking away what defenders can do. It's ridiculous. The NFLPA, the people that get hip dropped tackled, was against this change. Then you have shit like pass interference where the offensive player either doesn't get called for it, or they call it on the defender. They let offensive tackles, false start on the regular. People always go with the "flag football" hyperbole but at the rate we are going in 20 years it will be flag football.

"Personal Foul. Playing defense #27 on the defense. That's a 15 yard penalty and #27 is disqualified."

Soon rugby and soccer are going to be more dangerous than football. Maybe they're getting everyone ready for flag football for the 2028 olympics with all of these rule changes. Guess the XFL and USFL combined into the UFL with less teams.

Fuck I'm nervous.  I hope the Vikings don't do anything stupid like trade Jefferson today.

I'm hoping my team doesn't blow the 2nd pick of the draft. If you are going to pick a QB at 2, pick Jayden Daniels or just trade down. If the Vikings pick Penix, I'm going to laugh my ass of because I know you'll be online buying his jersey before the next commercial break. 😂

So, @Chadoukenwhat do you think of the QB you did end up getting?

I like the pick,  and I also like getting Dallas Turner at 17. Moving up from 11 to 10, to box out  LV and Den without having to give up any first round picks was pretty sweet. I think Kwesi did a great job holding fast.  McCarthy fits KoC's offensive scheme well and I'm hoping it won't take him too long to be ready to start. I'm happy with it.  JJ to JJ baby!

I don't know anything about football. I played a little high school ball where I was put in QB because I have a good arm and was told to fire it at whoever yelled for a pass, but that's all I know. I want to get into it. How do I begin watching? How is the league run? Please treat me as someone who has never watched a game or paid attention to a football conversation in their life, because that's who I am. What are the important rules to know?

First things first,  you need to pick a team.  I suggest the Vikings.  They've never won a Superbowl, so seeing them do it for the first time would be pretty awesome as a fan.  And they've got a lot of good pieces with a potential QB from this draft, so it's not completely out of the question for them to be competitive within the next few years.

Wonderful. I don't care about team quality because every team I have ever supported in every sport always ends up being 2nd place at best, and terrible at worst. I am now a tentative Vikings fan. What about the other things I mentioned?

Well,  I was kinda joking when I said pick the Vikings lol. Where are you located?  Whatever team is broadcast locally would be your best bet so you can actually watch the games,  unless you feel like shelling out a bunch of money for the NFL ticket.  Or you live in Dallas,  of course.

As for the rules, the object of the game is to score more points than the other team.  Game starts with a kickoff.  Kicking team kicks to receiving team,  decided on a coin toss.    Receiving team can catch the ball and run up the field with it,  or let it go into the endzone for a touchback which puts them automatically on the 20 yard line to start.  Receiving team is now offense,  kicking team is defense. Offense has four downs to advance the ball 10 yards,  which doing so gets them a first down and resets the downs.  If they fail to get 10 yards within 3 downs,  most of the time they'll use 4th down to puntt the ball to the other team, and that team now becomes the offense and the punting team is now defense.

If the offense can get the ball into the opposing team's end zone, that's a touchdown.  A TD is worth 6 points,  and then you have the option to kick for an extra 1 point,  or run a play from the 2 yard line to get 2 points (called a 2 point conversion).

If the offense fails to get the ball into the end zone or convert a 3rd down for 10 yards and reset the downs, AND they are within a comfortable range (usually around the 35 yard line of the opposing team)  They can opt to kick a field goal. Note: You can technically kick a FG on any down,  and this usually comes into play near the end of a half or the end of a game, situationally. After scoring,  the scoring team then kicks the ball off to the other team and it's their turn.

If the offense fails to score or convert a new first down within their 4 downs,  and they don't punt,  the other team gets the ball where it is at the end of the play.  The defense can also get a turnover via interception or recovering a fumble. In these cases,  the team who makes the play and gets the ball has their offense take the field and the team that loses the ball is now on defense.

There are a total of four 15 minute quarters,  with a rest at half time. If the score is tied,  then overtime kicks in.  The first team to score a td wins. If neither team scores, then the game ends in a tie.  During the post season,  there are no ties.

There are a TON of rules,  with penalties and some weird obscure shit that's just too much to go into,  but that's the gist of it.

The actual playing consists of 11 guys on D against 11 on O. There are passing plays,  and running plays,  and then there are some trick plays. I'm not going to go into much more detail than that right now because I have to go to dinner. Maybe @Darc_Requiemcan pick it up and explain things I left off or got wrong.

Does this mean that after advancing 10 yards, they get another 4 downs that resets the previous count; ball advances 10 yards on 2nd down, which bring the count back up to 4 instead of 6. Or does it add one down, so you're back to 3 left? I'm a bit confused based on what you said later in the post, but I'm assuming it's the former.

Is the postseason running right now? Also, how many commercials can I expect to watch? Is it as bad as the NBA where it's one every 2 minutes?

Thank you! This was super helpful.

Hey,  I'm a Vikings fan!  SKOL!

I used to be a Redskins fan when I lived in VA, but I couldn't handle Dan Snyder, who used to own the team and ran it into the ground.  After the franchise tagged Kirk Cousins for the second time I decided that wherever he goes is gong to be my new team.  My best friend is from Minnesota and I had been watching the Vikings for 20 years so it was serendipitous that he went there and now in a Vikings fan. So yeah,  if you live in that market,  I'd definitely go with the Vikes.

Every time a team gets a fresh set of 4 downs,  there is a first down marker that shows the yards to gain to get a fresh set of downs. So if on 1st down they get 3 yards,  now they need 7 more to get a new first down. If the QB gets sacked for a loss of 5 yards on second down,  now they have to get a total of 12 yards to get to the first down marker. If they can do that on 3rd down,  they get a new first down. The downs don't stack,  you never get more than 4th down.

Superbowl was in February,  that's the end of the season. New season starts in September.  And there are a shit ton of commercials lol.

Ok I have no idea what this means, but cool! I’m now a Vikings guy.

So every ten yards, you get a Mario 1-up instead of a 4-up?
