best thing about the human race is...surprisingly (*because of course there's some hilariously, amazingly stupid people out there)... intelligence and potential.  Regarding those things, we are far beyond anything else on this planet... the supreme beings.  Sometimes I think of it this way--- if anything in this world is "alien" and seemingly out of place compared to everything else, it's our species.

The worst aspect is the tendency towards strong tribalism... at the extreme this is what gives rise to general intolerance, racism and all that jazz.  Basically a world of factions that are constantly looking down on each other...

Tribe A - they think they are the shit, and everyone else is inferior.
Tribe B - they think they're sooo much better than Tribe A and everyone else.  If Tribe A was previously the oppressors, Tribe B would have absolutely no shame in turning it around and doing the exact same shit, given the chance.
    Tribe C, D, E, F, etc.---same deal to varying degrees.

I'm rambling a bit but my expectations of humanity will forever be low... this species should be so much greater than the overall embarrassment it is.... psycho-analyzing myself for a moment here--this is likely a primary reason I've always fantasized about being various things from fiction (e.g.-- vampires, aliens, gods/demigods, cosmic entity, etc.) that are outright superior to mankind.

But wouldn't truly ascending past your flaws mean that you are no longer human? Accepting your flaws and coping with them is one thing for the simple fact that the flaws are still there. Wouldn't losing all those things that make you imperfect put you on a higher level than humanity (thus, becoming something that isn't human)?

Don't need to play -- check out the lore some time though.  It's crazy.

    But basically:

Humanity enters a golden age, expands across the stars, then gets into a fight with its AI slaves and civilization is nearly wiped out.  The emperor, who has been silently guiding humanity since the beginning of recorded history, decides to stop pretending to be Jesus/Santa Claus/whoever he has been masquerading as throughout history and reveal himself to the rest of the world.  He decides humanity has been fucking up for way too long and he might as well just lead us himself.

He creates 18 sons from his DNA who in turn lead 18 armies of Space Marines.  They bring peace and prosperity back to humanity before half of his sons become corrupted by Darkness and a civil war nearly wipes out everything again.  The day is saved but not before the emperor is wounded so badly that he's placed on life support basically forever.  He's placed in a special golden casket and while in a coma uses what is left of his psychic power to stop dark gods from breaking through into this dimension.  All of his sons are either killed in the conflict or disappear.  Humanity, now leaderless, drifts aimlessly while trying to combat the monsters/aliens/demons that continue to move in from all sides.

    It's a pretty neat world/setting.

Yes, I would choose to become an immortal. With immortality I will eventually figure out how to attain any other super power since I have so much time to do so. Will all those super powers I have gained I will never get bored with myself and the universe. Being bored is just a mind set that you can train out of your mentality.

With meditation and focus you can gain any power you want.
