Over the weekend I went back to Doctrine Dark’s master win quote post and realize just how much I enjoyed these over the years. It made me think what it would’ve been like if one of my favorite characters was in the game and what she would say to the others.

So in a stroke of inspiration, I tried writing some stuff as if Makoto was in the game. I’ll put it into a spoiler so it doesn’t clog the thread.

     Character Specific winquotes.

To Abigail: Size doesn’t matter to me! My karate can handle big guys like you too!

To Akira: It’s cool that your brother fights with ya. Mine’s doesn’t even like to fight.

To Alex: For a rookie, you’re pretty strong! Those throws were no joke!

To Akuma: I had no idea someone could get this strong. Looks like I’ll have to train harder!

To Balrog: We all need money now and then but you take it too far! It’s making you weak as a fighter!

To Birdie: You should be hungry for the battle, not just hungry! Where is that food coming from anyway?!

To Blanka: I may be young, but I’m still disciplined. Your wild moves are no match for me!

To Cammy: Cats? Yeah, there’s a few that come by the dojo. Ya interested?

To Chun-Li: Rindo-kan doesn’t have a lot of kicking in it. After that fight, I think I may need to add some.

To Cody: Never thought I would have to go all out against a mayor! The world is filled with amazing fighters!

To Dan: While you aren’t a good fighter, you still have my respect. Running your own dojo ain’t easy work!

To Dhalsim: Sorry but I still don’t get how Yoga makes you stretch that far.

To Ed: Ya must’ve had a lousy teacher. The footwork and swinging, it’s like I’m fighting a kid!

To Falke: I prefer hand to hand but I don’t mind you using a weapon. Just use it to it’s fullest potential when you’re against me.

To F.A.N.G.: If you keep trying to be unconventional, you will never win. Go back to basics!

G: I don’t care how many viewers your show get! I will never resort to using a dumb gimmick like you did!

Gill: Save your speeches! I’m not doing anything else until Rindo-kan karate is known all over!

Guile: It may not look like it, but I’m doing this for my family as well!
Honda: Fighting a sumo wrestler is way different than watching one! Who knew that they fly around like that?
Ibuki: Who’s this cute guy you keep talking about? I’m the only person here!

To Juri: Your techniques look evil and wrong. Are you sure that’s Tae Kwon Do?

To Kage: That fight just now… He said a battle to the death. Was he serious?

To Karin: I thought you was just a spoiled brat, but ya surprised me! Guess I shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, huh?

To Ken: How’d ya like that? My moves are good enough to beat a champion!

To Kolin: Could ya make any more of that ice? It would be perfect to practice my chops on!

To Laura: So you’re trying to promote your style too? Guess that makes us rivals then!

To Lucia: If there’s some people trying to fight, send ‘em to me. I’ll set them straight!

To Luke: If ya just starting out, keep training. Once you reach your potential, I will be waiting for a rematch!

To M. Bison: You rely on that power of yours too much!

To Makoto: Thanks! Because of you, I know what weaknesses that need fixin’!

To Menat: So you can really see into the future? Wait, don’t tell me! I’ll just go with my gut!

To Nash: Where’s your passion? All of your attacks had no soul to them!

To Necali: Devour? No wonder you lost. You shouldn’t fight on an empty stomach!

To Oro: I-I did it! I avenged your loss, daddy!¹

To Poison: Now everyone will know how good Rindo-kan is against weapons! Thanks for the promo!

To R. Mika: My brother says everything you guys do is fake. Glad I can prove him wrong on this!

To Rashid: I’m not angry at all! I just take my fights seriously unlike you!

To Rose: I already knows what’s gonna happen. I’ll just keep fighting until everyone knows my family’s style!

To Ryu: It was a honor, but I still have a ways to go until I’m your level. Once I become a master, I will face you again!

To Sagat: It’s a honor to face off against a master but I didn’t expect to win against one too. Thank you!

To Sakura: You’re balancing two lives and you’re still that good? I hate to admit that I’m jealous.

To Seth: That move you did… where did you learn that?²

To Urien: You’d probably win more if you thought about your opponent more than yourself.

To Vega: Beauty this, beauty that. Appearances aren’t that important, ‘specially in a fight!

To Zangief: Hah, I don’t need to build my muscles any more than I need to! I can already knock out someone in five hits!

To Zeku: Woah, that was like fighting two people at once! How’d ya do that age thing?

    Generic winquotes

    “Hoooo, yaaaa… CHESTO!”

“Was that it? Coulda used this time to fix up the dojo…”

”Yeah! Soon enough, I will end a fight in one hit!”

”Rindo-kan karate is what defeated you today! Remember that!”

”Fight me again! I know that wasn’t your best!”

I also attempted to write quotes against Makoto. I’m not as confident with these.

    Winquotes against Makoto

Abigail: You’re using too much gas when you’re already running on empty!

Akira: Your passion for this kind of stuff is infectious! And a little scary.

Akuma: You are a fool to willingly challenge a demon!

Alex: You’re not in a league to call anyone else a rookie. I’ll admit you do have some potential though.

Balrog: Shut your annoying mouth up! I’ll turn your crappy dojo to scrap next if you thinking I’m still a weakling!

Birdie: Ain’t no one gonna stop me from eating my food! Much less a girl who looks like she never ‘ad a good meal.

Blanka: ARROOOOGH! Your moves may dominate the country, but the jungle is a different beast!

Cammy: I never fought someone so young yet so serious. Perhaps you can be more than an amateur.

Chun-Li: You’re doing all of this for your father. I can tell that he would be proud if he was here.

Cody: Enjoy the fighting while you can. Sooner or later, life will come at you.

Dan: Y’know, I see a lot of myself in you, kid. Why don’t you study Saikyo along with- what’s that other thing called?

Dhalsim: Once you open your mind to the possibilities, even the impossible can be just a word.

Ed: Who you calling a kid, brat? Just because you can hit hard doesn’t mean you’re a good fighter!

Falke: It seems all you want is a good fight. I’m sorry but it would be better to bother someone else for that.
F.A.N.G.: You could make a good experiment but you’re far too volatile. I can’t have my work destroyed by a loud brat!

G: Your drive and power empowers this planet well. Thank you, citizen!

Gill: You are not the only fighter who desires to have their techniques known. Accept me as your savior and I will ensure it will not be forgotten.

Guile: Go back to your family. I’m sure they wouldn’t want you losing to someone like me.

Honda: A good fighter can only become a great fighter when they know when to relax! So why don’t you come by the bathhouse sometime?

Ibuki: Wait a minute? You’re a-! Jeez! We need to talk about your appearance.

Juri: What would you know? Since you think I’m evil, I’m sure you wouldn’t mind me stomping over your face some more?

Kage: Even someone as young as you will face death!

Karin: Your moves are simple yet effective. You have potential to be a fantastic training partner.

Ken: You got the heat, but you need more than the basics to fight me!

Kolin: Run along now, little girl. The world we’re creating has no need for your dying art.

Laura: That move where you go ‘woosh!’ was crazy! Add some Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu grapples and you’ll be unstoppable!

Lucia: Slow your role there! As an officer of the law, I can’t let a kid fight gang members.

Luke: And I thought I was hot-blooded! Think I saw you turn red for second!

    M. Bison: Hmph! There are fighters like you all over the world. You don’t impress me for a second!

Menat: And your future is- huh? Wait! Where are you going? This will save you some trouble!

Nash: I have no time for this. Challenge me again and I will show you the consequences for losing.

Necali: Your pa-pa-passion will make for a nice ap-appetizer…

Oro: Ohoho, you are your father’s daughter! Hope this loss doesn’t discourage. I can see you putting up a fight in another 30 years!¹

Poison: You have a lot of spunk, kid! Shame about the boring style you have.

R.Mika: Of course wrestling is real! You don’t shoot to the top being a fake!

Rashid: Woah woah woah! Watch where you throw those punches! I thought this was supposed to be fun, why are you so angry?

Rose: You will experience a lot of defeat with the path you’re on. But with those defeats, wonderful friendships will arise.

Ryu: Once you make your style your own, you can truly begin your journey. I look forward to our next battle.

Sagat: You have a long way to go. Stand up if you wish to continue down this road.

Sakura: Your moves are pretty cool. Even when they miss, I can feel the force behind every attack.

Seth: Rindo-kan karate data detected. Updating current files.²
Urien: How dare a worm like you try to give advice? You will be punished for this transgression!

Vega: It’s always a travesty when someone discards their beauty. Carving you will be a necessity.

Zangief: You already have great power! Now, build your muscles to be even greater!

The Gief: All martial arts fall before my throws!

Zeku: A fading legacy, renewed by a daughter’s passion. A new generation.

If you got that far, I hope you enjoyed the what I did when I was bored.

¹: Makoto’s father final loss was against an unspecified fighter in South America. The Udon comics expanded this by saying Oro was and Makoto wanted to avenge his loss.

²: Seth in this game gains a new move that looks a like lot Tsurugi (Makoto’s axe kick) which gains a follow up in v-trigger 1 which looks like Fukiage (Makoto’s DP). Thought it would be cute to reference that.

    You BEAST!

This must've taken you a while to come up with so many different quotes while keeping true to Makoto and having the appropriate response with the other characters. And definitely can see some story behind Makoto's quotes too.

My favorites of Makoto's are to Ibuki, Sakura, Dan, Vega, and Balrog.

My faves to Makoto are from Chun-Li, Ibuki, Luke, and Zeku.

I know these ain't official, but I can't help it. So allow me to give my reactions of Chun's and Makoto's win quotes to each other.

Makoto vs Chun-Li: "Rindo-kan doesn’t have a lot of kicking in it. After that fight, I think I may need to add some."

Definitely an air of respect between the two. Makoto being the younger fighter, but she knows a good and respected fighter when she's fights with one.  Makoto certainily has the power that could rival Chun's kicking strength. (If you mod the camera from USF4, you'll see she launches her opponents higher than any one). Shame they don't interact as much within the lore. And if they did, it might just be a Casual acknowledgement. I'm not sure Makoto would know Chun's past and how they both honor their fathers unless Chun-Li opens up to her about her dad herself. And while I don't see a reason for the two to interact more than just passing or a friendly fight, it's nice to see the them both honor their dads through their martial art.

Chun-Li to Makoko: You’re doing all of this for your father. I can tell that he would be proud if he was here.

Yes, if there is one thing that would bond the two, it's them honoring their deceased dads. I can totally sense the relatability to Makoto in this quote. Very solid, and it's one of my faves of the whole set.

  2. My Chun-Li SF6 Predictions  - (Copy/Paste from Reddit)

(LONG POST - TLDR Version below)

Goes without saying that these are just purely speculations and predictions just from watching the SF6 reveal. With the exception of the logo, I'm really excited for this new look of Street Fighter. And though the reveal only gave us 30 seconds of character footage, that's been plenty to get the FGC speculating.

Since the devs confirmed that Chun-Li (and Ryu) will most assuredly be in every SF game for as long as the franchise continues, I wanted to share my thoughts, predictions (and hopes) of what I think Chun-Li in SF6 would look like. And being a resident Chun-Li main and stan, forgive me if I go a little overboard, overanalytical, or over-geek/dork/nerd about this. 🤓🤓

That said, let's have some fun.

I've divided it up into four categories:

Appearance: What Chun-Li will look like? Will she continue the same iconic look, or will she get a redesign?

Personality: Any notable traits in Chun-Li that we'll see come out in her character or we'll see in a potential arcade mode ending or story mode?

Story: If SF6 does take place in the future, post-SFV or even Post-SFIII, will Chun-Li be involved in any of the main conflicts, or will she be regulated to just being a side character?

Gameplay: How will Chun-Li play? Will she feel similar to the iterations before her? What changes to expect to make her feel fresh?

    ----------

    APPEARANCE (Face & Costumes)

I'm am SUPER excited to see what Chun-Li will look like in RE Engine graphics. If the teaser made Ryu look this wide, just imagine how thicc they're gonna make Chun-Li's thighs.

I did a quick google search about RE Engine Graphics Chun-Li and this was one of the first images that came up. (Source - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/LnKYP)

I do think Chun-Li has a very distinctive look, so I don't think Capcom is going to remodel or redo Chun-Li's face much, if at all. If MVCI has taught them anything, you don't mess with Chun-Li's face.

Everyone looks a little older, so it would be safe to assume that they might age up Chun-Li as well. Ryu in the SF6 looks more experienced and gives off a sharp but serious stare. I think to keep with Chun's personality, they'll approach the same but more softer facial expression. First thing that comes to mind is Tifa Lockhart from the recent Final Fantasy games. I feel Capcom will give Chun a similar look to make sure their poster girl gets her special treatment.

Also I think Chun-Li's new default look would have her wearing her hair down. Chun-Li has adorned silk baos (brocades and ribbons) to cover her Oxhorn hairstlye as a tribute for her father. With SF6 looking to be post-SFV/III, and with Shadaloo destroyed in SFV Story mode, I feel that Chun-Li can let that chapter of her life close, and finally let go of avenging her father. And one way to do so is to finally let her hair down. (Just like in her SFII ending)

From the looks of the trailer, Luke and Ryu got a redesign that felt fresh but familiar. Luke wears a shirt with the wings and star tattoos now branded into patterns on his shirt, while wearing the hooded vest in his Story costume. And for Ryu, if this is his new default look, then Capcom has made a bold decision in changing Ryu's look after many many years. I don't know if there is a story behind Ryu's new look. But it's definitely worth speculating.

Going back to Chun-Li, if SF's poster boy and the "future of SF" got a fresh look, then it's safe to assume that Chun-Li might get a fresh look as well (possibly the entire cast too). It would also be a bold choice since Chun-Li's qipao design is one of the most iconic looks in fighting games. (It did set the standard as well). But I see three potential "Default" looks for Chun-Li

    • SFV Battle Costume: Since Ryu's new base look looks like his battle costume, it would be safe to assume that Chun-Li will also follow suit. Maybe this cover image of SFV is what we can expect for SF6. I think if there is going to be a small change to her battle costume, her base color might be blue with gold accents, to honor her default color scheme. So most likely the 05 Color of her battle costume is something I could see as her base look, if not her black and gold 01 Color.
    • A "Sifu" Alpha look: Mostly inspired from the game "Sifu". But this look could easily be redesigned to look like her Alpha costume. In Chun's arcade ending of SFIII, she ends up teaching little kids. So I think it would be cool if Chun-Li followed in the footsteps of her masters (Gen and her father) and became a Sifu herself. Plus the alpha look of this redesign will make her feel familiar, but the Sifu look would advance her character forward and see her as a master after so many years.
    • Default Chun-Li: The old saying goes "if it ain't broken, don't fix it." Maybe Capcom could choose to play it safe for Chun-Li and give her safe default outfit she's been rocking for 30+ years. I bet it would still look amazing in RE Graphics though. Plus it would be a cool to see the textures, fabric, and design of her classic qipao up close.

Of course with Capcom, we can expect multiple costumes for purchase. I do expect Chun-Li to once again have the most costumes out of all of the fighters. Chun-Li has a total of 20 costumes in SFV, not including easter egg or promotional differences. I think Chun-Li will have around the same (more or less). Though we can only speculate the costumes SF characters will get, here are what I feel what we'll see for Chun-Li's wardrobe options (base costume withstanding)

    1. Default (SFV)
    2. Alpha (SFV)
    3. Battle (SFV)
    4. Training (SFV)
    5. Sport - (Gymnatics, Biker, Gym Clothes - Edwin Huang)
    6. CPT
    7. Christmas/Holiday
    8. Professional (Interpol Director)
    9. SF Animated Movie Nightgown
    10. Chun-Li SF2 Ending
    11. Swimsuit 1
    12. Swimsuit 2
    13. Crossover Costume
    14. Charity Costume (Like the BCRF costume)
    15. Universal E-Sports themed costume for every character (much like the Track Suit costumes)
    16. Animal Theme (Dragon or Phoenix)
    17. Casual
    18. Spring Themed Casual (Chun-Li's name translates to Spring Beauty)
    19. Super Hero/Power Rangers

    PERSONALITY

Whew, I said a lot for Chun-Li's potential appearance. But Chun-Li's personality is a little more straight forward and simple.

Chun-Li would most likely keep her same personality: brave, dedicated, strong sense of justice, caring, resourceful, and disciplined.

I know in SF Alpha and story mode in SFV has made her more emotional, and hotheaded, quick to rush into battle. I want to believe that Chun-Li might be more cool and collected in this iteration of SF. If Shadaloo is gone, Chun-Li can probably relax and let things go, and thus have a more calm and zen demeanor both in fights as well as outside of them

One thing that I would love to return would be Chun-Li's cheerful and fun side, something that we didn't get to see at all in SFV. One of the more endearing sides of Chun-Li is when she jumps for joy and giving her famous "YATTA" after beating her opponent. I'm hoping that in this iteration of SF, we'll see Chun-Li let loose a little more. Now that Shadaloo has been extinguished (for now at least), and with Chun-Li teaching kids, she would probably be more open, cheerful, and fun. And that can translate into her win poses or her post-win quotes.

I do think Chun-Li will show that teacher side of her in her win quotes as well. Her SFV quotes do show her making an observation of their technique or fighting style. So I think we'll also see more of that reflected in her win quotes and personality as well.

Finally, I would love to see a side of Chun-Li we've never seen before. Either some vulnerability or insecurity.

Chun-Li swore to her father that she wouldn't cry again unitl M. Bison and Shadaloo have been defeated. Now With M. Bison gone and Shadaloo crumbled, I would love to see Chun-Li in a vulnerable state. Not sure how this can be accomplished, and definitely sounds like something that would have to be set up long-term like a solo player RPG game. But Chun-Li has been holding back from letting her true emotions show for a number of years. And I think it would be a good time to let some of that out just for some good cathartic relief.

And maybe that could tie into an insecure side we see in Chun-Li. With her adopting and raising Li-Fen at the end of SFV, we could see more of Chun-Li's motherly side in addition to being a teacher. And depending how much they're going to age the other characters, Li-Fen included, maybe Chun-Li will have to deal with a rebellious side of Li-Fen. Or maybe Chun-li wants to do her father proud and become a good mother to Li-Fen as her father was to her. But maybe that insecurity of being a first time mom and not knowing if she's doing it right could lead to some humor and levity.

    STORY

I'm thinking Chun-Li's role in the story would be more of something more secondary or something not indicative to the main plot.

With Chun-Li's Shadaloo arc and her "Revenge against M. Bison" story completed, I don't think there is much reason for Chun-Li to take the center stage for the main story of SF6, assuming we'll get a story mode. Since Luke is being built up to be the main protagonist, it looks like they are going to give the spotlight on some of the younger generation of fighters: I'm talking about Luke, Sakura, Karin, and Sean. Hell maybe Mel Masters and Li-Fen if they get aged up to Sakura Alpha age.

Speaking of Luke, I do know that Luke and Chun-Li share similarities: Both lost their fathers to terrorist organizations, both were hotheaded and headstrong (Luke more so in SFV and Chun-Li in her Alpha Years), and both dedicate themselves to fighting evil. With all that, maybe Chun-Li can take more of a mentorship role for Luke, kind of like Sub-Zero was to Cassie, Jacqui, Takeda, and Kung Jin in Mortal Kombat 10.

Maybe during like the final battle, when Luke and his team are getting overwhelmed, Guile comes in with some friends (Chun-Li included) to give them some backup while Luke faces the final boss.

I feel if Chun-Li were to have some kind of importance in the SF lore, there would have to be strong reason for Chun-Li to come back into fighting and leave teaching for a little bit.

Maybe Li-Fen either joins Luke's adventures and CHun-Li has to play mom and find her, or Li-Fen gets kidnapped (again) and Chun-Li has to rescue her, in which her path crosses with Luke and his team.

Maybe Neo-Shadaloo is a stronger rogue organization, and with Shadaloo being in the name, Chun-Li will have no choice but to investigate.

Or, Shadaloo is not dead, Bison returns, and Chun-Li is called to end their organization again.

Or if Chun-li is still not retired from interpol, maybe she'll be called on to investigate and take down the new big bad, plain and simple.

    GAMEPLAY

I can't say much since we don't know what gameplay looks or feels like. Like with every new game, they'll want Chun-Li to feel familiar to those who've played her in the past while still giving her some new or returning moves to make her feel fresh again.

    • I do see her playing more or less the same: a Charge Character, footies fighter who controls the space with her normals (St.HP, F.MP, and Cr.MK will be her staple pokes.)
    • Chun-Li will have the same special moves executed the same way, so QCF or Mash Lighting Legs, Kikokens and SBKs will operate the same with EX being her invincibility reversal.
    • I do believe Chun-Li's Up Kicks, Tenshokyaku will return to her moveset
    • Also would love for Chun-Li's moves to have some animations during the recovery frames as SFV ahs been doing with the more recent SFV characters

I'm predicting that SF6 will allow for more player expression and custom combos.

I'm think SF6 is gonna give each character their own unique "specialty" or something, kinda like how everyone has their own unique V-Skill. Maybe some players like to play Chun more grounded so maybe there's a specialty skill that works with that, like being able to cancel off of normals you wouldn't be able to for easy conversions. Or maybe some like Marvel air combos, so maybe a specialty move that amps her air combos or upkicks. Finally, maybe a character specialty move that emphasizes her Lighting Legs, making way for longer combos

I also believe Chun-Li as well as everyone in the cast is going to have 2 super moves, unlike having just 1 from SFV. I think Chun-Li's super move will include her Hoyokusen (Her SFV Critical Art), and a giant Kikosho (like MVC or as seen in the C. Viper OVA). Hoping that every character has at least one cinematic super moves.

Finally, I'm hoping for different Pre-Round animations or special animations with two specific characters like Ryu and Ken. Also for different win-poses for round wins and Victories.

    ----------

Thank you for taking the time to read, browse, or skim. Like I said, this is just pure speculation and just hopes and predictions of what I'm expecting of Chun-Li. I'm just really excited to see what Chun-Li and all the other characters will look like in the new graphics engine. And hoping they do my waifu right.

    TLDR:

    • Battle costume for her base look + Tifa-ish face
    • More cheery "YATTA" and teacher/motherly side to come out along with her staple personality
    • Chun-Li may take a backseat to SF6's story importance
    • Plays more or less the same, upkicks return, more customization/expression, more animations,

Its better that Q will be leave as a mystery not Chun's father or even G.

G is a interesting character of his own despite having similarities with Q both operates in the polar opposite

I'm fine if they would reveal Chun father in a hospital recovering but not someone that can fight anymore or a possible playable character in the future.

    What do you think? @Chun-Li_Forever

Agreed that Q should be better left a mystery, and if he does appear again, he only would raise more questions while answering little-to-nothing. (I do see G and & similarities, so it's hard to assume that they both aren't related in some way, unless Q was downloaded from G)

Personally, I'm okay with Chun-li's father being dead and gone. She's already closed that chapter on her life. No need  to reopen it again, unless it would give her character some more depth. But I honestly don't see any potential character growth or development with her father coming back and her chasing ghosts when she already has kids to take care of and protect.

Ryu was 180cm in SF1 then they changed it to 175cm.

I think he was always listed as "missing". Didn't Chun-Li join Interpol to find her fathers whereabouts?

Typically, the belief is that Death is Suspect when there is no body. Why do you think rumors of Q possibly being Chun-Li's dad exists?

    M. Bison pretty much confirmed it in Street Fighter Alpha 1. In the retconned Alpha 2 game, Bison tells Chun-Li "I'll hope you'll amuse me then. More than your father did". Which makes Chun-Li (and the player) infer that Bison was his murderer.

SF2 has Chun-Li praying at his grave, so either he is confirmed dead, or they gave up searching and declared him dead (like Charlie Nash).

Finally, in SFV, Chun-Li's Character Story, after beating Vega a 2nd time, Vega retreats but not before saying "Indeed I can tell you about your father. Also, how he met his end." Which again either confirms or infers that he really is dead.

They killed him off in the SF2 Animated movie as well.

I don't know why they just go and say "missing" when the M. Bison and the guys working for him straight up confirm that he's dead.

    Chun-Li:

An investigator of the ICPO who fights with magnificent kicking techniques. She became a detective at the age of 18 to search for her father who mysteriously disappeared, however knowing Shadaloo’s involvement with his disappearance, she swore to destroy Shadaloo. She cares for her friends and cares for Cammy, who is worried about the Dolls. She rescues a little girl who was kidnapped by Shadaloo.

So is her father now “missing” or is he still considered “dead”?
Also, isn’t it canon confirmed M. Bison was her father’s murderer? Or you just wanna throw away 30 years of her story by removing her one motivation to fight against Shadaloo?

Why they gotta make her backstory so vauge?

The SF Collab is enough to get me to download the game. (And possibly hint a SF Duel English release soon as well). Good art design. But I feel every entry, they gotta throw more dirt on her backstory.

Damn I'm going to have to figure out something to have QuasimodoX draw. What does he charge for commissions anyway?

If i remember correctly, it was 170 USD for my Chun-Li/Li-Fen cover art.

It probably differs depending on the kind of work, number of characters and how much of their full body is showing.

  7. Capcom def paid more attention to the waifus of the game, which explains why they tend to look better than the male characters.

Personally, SFV is my favorite when it comes to the characters visually. Not just with how they look, but the animations and follow-throughs of some of the moves (most notably Season 3 onward).

I feel that almost every SFV female character looks like the best they've ever looked before. I think this is the best version of Chun-Li from a visual standpoint. And some of my favorite male characters that I think look really good in SFV are M. Bison, G, Zeku, Urien, and Vega. I know there are some misses like Ken's face, Abigail's bulldog face and head-to-body proportions, and Kage looking like the Spirit Halloween Store version of Evil Ryu. But I do feel there are more hits than misses when it comes to the visual aspect of Street Fighter 5.

I started in my previous comment that Bengus's story artwork does feel rushed, which explains the terrible art character stories for the first 16 characters. And as Daemos said, the ending arcade artworks look great too.

Now, one thing I do dislike about the visual style and as personal opinion, there's no reason for characters to have giant hands and feet in a game that's high definition and 60fps. It looks bad and I'm not buying the readability thing.

The devs stated that the SF characters have abnormally bigger hands and feet to serve as visual markers for where their normals are spaced. Much easier to see the footsie range of a big fist or foot rather than a normal sized proportionate one.

I think the reason why is because Bengus was probably rushed to finish the character story arts for all 16 base roster characters. If i remember, the release date for SF5 was pushed up to Feb from June. So Bengus had to be on a huge time crunch just to get all the story arts finished.

At least with the following seasons, he had more time and less characters to draw story art for, which explains why they look better than the starting roster.

I with the artstyle but no to another old man Ryu

I actually really love the 3D artstyle that SF5 has, most of the SFV characters look the best they've ever looked, and I hope SF6 continues to evolve with that.

Though a 2D anime artsyle would be a nice callback, I feel that with the past few fighting games Capcom has done: USF4, UMVC3, SFxT, SFV, MVCI, they've fully embraced the 3D look and feel of the characters.

Plus, Capcom LOVES to milk every last nickel and dime out of their playerbase. And different costumes and skins are one of their easiest money makers. It's much easier (and I also believe it's also cheaper) to reskin a 3D model character than it is to redraw and reanimate every single frame for every single character but with a different costume.

And on another note, Happy 35th y'alls

I like how even the writers at UDON, struggle to come up with a scenario where Ryu and Chun-Li would ever interact with each other outside of forced events caused by *insert evil organization"

To be fair, I'd love for Udon to do a Ryu/Chun-Li focused arc. Both are SF's most marketable characters, I'm sure they can come up with some story that can span at least 4 issues or more.

They could just be some randos put in the comic.

At least, i don't recognize them.

STREET FIGHTER CHARACTER STORY TIERLIST - by Chun-Li_Forever

    Factors:

    • importance to main lore,
    • any ties to current/past lore,
    • character development,
    • meaningful interactions
    • emotional stakes
    • personal enjoyment

    FHpu457VUAMgX65?format=jpg&name=medium

Ryu - Even being Street Fighter's poster boy,  Ryu's character story felt dull, uninspired, and safe (much like Ryu's character himself). Though the actualization of the Power of Nothingness wouldn't be seen until ASF, Ryu's story mode does very little to foreshadow any of it.

Ken - Liked the callback to Ken's Alpha ending, and the quick scene before Ken's fight with Ryu. Wished we could see more of what their relationship was like at that time. A little bummed we don't get to see a little more modest Ken at Karin's party. Wished there was some tie-in to ASF, like maybe we see him eating with Mel and Eliza at another table across from Ibuki and Birdie in SFV.

Chun-Li - Will try to keep my Chun-Li bias in check. I loved how this is the starting point of Chun-Li transitioning to a motherly role, you see her concerned, caring, and kind side of her within the first few minutes. Sweet and wholesome interactions with Li-Fen, especially the hair tying bonding them together. I would've loved to see some of Chun-Li's insecurities of being a mom, seeing as this is her first time too. Maybe she's nervous about not only protecting Li-Fen from any leftover danger after Shadaloo's dissolvement. Or maybe she's nervous of wanting to be as good of a mom as her father was to her when she was growing up.

Flashback scene takes place Pre-Alpha, when Chun was still a rookie Interpol Agent. You can hear her more emotional and headstrong than what she is now. And the flashback of her story does stay consistent with her lore. Vega does mention of her father's death, and in Chun's Alpha endings when she beat the final boss: M. Bison, he confirms he was the one who killed him. Really wished she, Guile, and Charlie had more of an "official" introduction. It felt short and impersonal. Guile and Charlie are two of Chun's closes allies, so I feel their first meeting would be a little more important.

Overall, it's a good character story that gives Chun-Li a little more depth in her new role as a mom, and as a rookie. Unlike most character stories with the initial roster, Chun-Li's story is a direct result of ASF, so we only see the significance of her character story AFTER playing ASF. And it sets up beautifully for what's to come in 3rd Strike.

Cammy - I thought it was a decent story mode. It sets up Cammy's main goal of saving the Shadaloo Dolls in ASF. I think my only critique with it is that I wish they made Cammy's motivations a little more personal, rather than have FANG's dialogue serve as exposition. Like maybe a USF4 prologue soliloquy would've served nicely. But Juni and Cammy's scenes were my favorites of her story mode. Loved seeing Juni adjusting to normalcy since Cammy's USF4 ending. And her scenes after her fight with Vega felt much more personal.

Nash - I feel Nash's story did the job it was supposed to. It's been years since he was last playable in an SF game, so reacquainting him through his retconned Alpha story was a safe choice. And it sets him up for ASF consistently. They never explain why Kolin sent Nash on a side-mission to confront Ed and FANG though.

    M. Bison - Both of M. Bison's fights are flashback fights: his encounter with Charlie Nash, and  FANG failed attempted assassination. While the first fight is an Alpha retcon, the second provides some insight of how FANG was recruited into Shadaloo (more details in FANG's story). Loved the touch how in Lair of the 4 Kings, Sagat's facial monument still resides before FANG became his replacement. The last scene does a great job in giving us a small scope of Operation CHAINS, and what kind of threat we'd be expecting in ASF. Personally, I'd love if they gave M. Bison one more fight, like maybe against Chun-Li in the Alpha days, or maybe against Rashid as an early encounter before ASF. But overall, it was an okay story mode but it did wet the appetite for the ASF main course.

Vega - I'm pretty sure Vega's first fight with Cammy is a retcon to his Alpha 3 ending, but I'm not 100% sure if that's confirmed. The only relevant things in Vega's story is FANG foreshadowing in using Bison's Psycho Power to power up the dolls that we'd see in the final act of ASF. It also ties in with Cammy's character story as well. But other than that, Vega's story just doesn't feel too important in the grand scheme of things.

Birdie - So much has happened since we last saw Birdie. He was a Shadaloo punk and grunt before, but several years and several hundred pounds later, he's broken free and got himself a more respectable jobber's job as Karin's... punk and grunt? All this because he didn't want to wear a Shadaloo henchmen issued hat... cool.
I do think Birdie's fight with Chun-Li felt a little random, what would've added more is if Chun-Li and/or Birdie recalled their Alpha 3 Fight-Your-Rival dialogue/scene they had. But the SFV encounter felt lacking. I did find his "initiation" into the Kanzuki family very funny though.
While Birdie's story does little in the grand scheme of the overall lore of ASF, this is a good character story for Birdie's character.

Karin - Personally, I would've loved a character story of Karin  becoming the head of the Kanzuki Zaibatsu. Last we saw her, she was a high school girl, and now she's a boss lady. I'd love to see how she inherited that title, and if there were any power or personal struggles that came with it. Maybe some of those insecuruties could've lead Karin to be a stronger leader, instead of her being a complete Mary Sue for all ASF.
Karin's character story feels like a "Adventures of Karin and Friends" filler-episode kind of vibe. So it doesn't do anything that adds to the current, previous, or future lore. It's just a showcase to show how Godly Mary Sue of a character Karin is. It's ridiculous, and your entertainment of this might vary with this one. But it's a decent reintroduction to Karin after so many years.

Zangief - If anything Zangief's personality made this much more enjoyable. Its a shame since Zangief was never too important in any of the significant SF stories and plots, most of his stories are gonna feel like side-stories/filler. His character story mode doesn't add any new developments. R. Mika does become his protoge, but I assumed she's always been since he saved her from falling debris in SF Alpha 3. I also wished for Azam to be playable, I'd love to see what kind of new things we can learn from their kinship previously.

    R. Mika - I was a little irritated with R. Mika and her voice and enthusiasm when the game first came out. But its grown on me. And to be honest, I feel that Mika's enthusiasm and energy, as well as showing great promise in the art of Muscle Spirit, does enough to carry her story mode to a passing grade, at least everything before her sphat with Ibuki. It gets extra points for showing her and Gief wrestling a bear for a bit, though I would've liked Mika to have held her own against the bear instead of having Zangief toss it away like it was nothing. That way, it would feel like things would come full circle for Mika since her Alpha 3 ending when Zangief saved her. Also, Birdie's dialogue in this made me laugh pretty good.

Dhalsim - Personally, I was bored with Dhalsim's story mode. He's always been a sage person, offering wisdom and advice to fellow fighters in his win quotes. So him teaching a new student in Yoga doesn't feel it adds anything to his character. Plus, there is barely any relation to any ongoing story plots. Dhalsim's story boils down to him teaching the power of Yoga, and he gets interrupted by Rashid, Mika, and Oro.

Rashid - I think his character story was sort of a missed opportunity to set up the more important moments of ASF, which is a shame, considering he's one of the more main characters of the cinematic story anyways. He knows his missing friend (who has yet to be f***ing named) had ties with Shadaloo, and he did get a piece from her. But I wish she'd left behind some clue about its use, or about Operation CHAINS, or something about Shadaloo's grand plan. The info we got in Rashid's cahracter story in regards to the main plot is miniscule at best. It's just a story of Rashid beating up Birdie for info, and then getting his ass beat by Ryu to show he's still not yet strong enough.

Laura - It's a showcase of her personality, and the ending scene does tie into her's, Zaangief's, Mika's and Alex's first appearance in ASF, but that's all her story mode has got going for her. I did like the bit with her and Sean. But Laura's story inclusion is hardly significant, and her character story makes her feel incredibly one-note.

F.A.N.G -  If there was one character that got the best treatment with both their character story AND cinematic story, it was FANG. With his character story, we got insightful and surprisingly dark backstory: implying that he was kidnapped as a child and forced to undergo rigorous tests and training until the sole survivor becomes the new FANG. And in the same story, FANG goes from lone surviving assassin to Shadaloo's 2nd in command. And its consistent with M. Bison's character story.
I do think 2 of the same Bison fights in a row feels stale, and the 2nd should've been a harder difficulty, have Bison have infinite VT, or have Bison be completly invincible, and the only way to win is to survive until the time runs out.
Other than that, in a mere 5 minutes, we get FANG's backstory on his origins, how he rose to power, and his scummy personality for his own survivability.

Necalli - His character story is more of a narrated prophecy, rather than an origin story. And while ASF certainly disappoints with the Legend of Necalli, what we get in the character story was far more interesting. I feel his absorbing the warriors he defeats should've been something more explored upon in ASF. Unfortunately, despite better treatment in his character story than ASF, Necalli does very little to make an impact on the lore moving forward.

Alex - Despite being the main protag in SF3, Alex's moments in his character story and ASF don't exactly hype him up to be that. However, most of his main lore importance does come from SF3, so everythin in SF5 does feel like filler. FANG never really explains why he kidnapped him. I guess the only thing his story does is set up his scene with Dhalsim in ASF, which feels like a waste.

Guile - Quite a few good things in this story. I liked how Abel has continued his partnership with Guile, as seen in the SF4 endings and SFxT (despite no canon ties to the main story). Guile's flashback with Nash does feel a little short and I wished they could've expanded on that. Maybe show them getting a drink post-fight, so that it could mirror Guile and Luke's story.  I also liked how it ties into ASF as sort of a prologue. Guile and Abel fends off FANG before infiltrating an abandoned SIN base. Sadly, all we get is that it's Shadaloo's Grand Plan. No specs, no details, just "Operation Chains". I would've liked at least one visual so us viewers can speculate, and also to see its relation to ASF. Finally, I liked how Vega's trap for Abel and Guile is almost similar to how he trapped Chun-Li in SF4, but the two end up escaping. My last complaint would be to have Abel and Guile part, so him randomly appearing in ASF doesn't feel out of place. Like maybe Abel will volunteer to keep giving Guile inside information from inside the Shadaloo base, while Guile tries to bring together a group of fighters to bring down Shadaloo for good. Overall, decent character story but with some missed opportunities.

Ibuki - Surprisingly more enjoyable than I expected. While it doesn't reveal anything new about Ibuki personally, it's does showher first meeting with Karin, and how she was officially employed by her. Birdie is enjoyably stupid, Karin prefers hand-to-hand over handshakes, and Ibuki is still is hunting for a stud. Also some speculation for ASF that most of the "handsome young men" Ibuki talked to weren't to her liking, and that's why she's sitting bored at the table with Birdie stuffing his face.
Since Karin isn't mentioned in SF3, I'm only going to assume employment with the Kanzukis was a temporary thing. But during her employment with her, she's had a lot of fun adventures in this game, and not just ASF, but as shown in other character stories too. Overall, Ibuki's story serves as a prologue and epilogue to her time in SFV before returning home.

Balrog - Balrog and Vega have always been pretty fickle when it came to serving Lord Bison, FANG is the only obnoxiously loyal one. I feel that with FANG in 2nd in command, Balrog had always been looking for an excuse to leave for good, but as he states in his story "We'll go when we're ready.". So obviously Bison's downfall was the perfect time to seek employment elsewhere. I do think Balrog's character story does more to build up Urien as a power player than it does help Balrog with any kind of character development or any ties to plot. Balrog's story boils down to waiting for my 2 weeks notice to come up before I bounce to the next person who'll pay me da fight monay!

Juri - I thought there was too much going on in Juri's character story. And it felt like it was going too fast. One of the good things about it was the first fight with M. Bison. It pretty cool and brutal for M. Bison to just take Juri's Feng Shui from her eye, but felt disappointment when she just got another one from an abandoned SIN base. I felt Juri's interactions with Helen/Kolin and C. Viper were too short for anything meaningful. And Juri just accepted to join Helen's team but what does she get in return? I wasn't sure if I understood or missed that part. And her fights with balrog and FANG feels kinda meh.

Urien - So many great things to say with this. In ASF, Urien's job was not to take too much focus away from the main plot in his brief appearances, but when he did come on screen, he had such a commanding presence, and he left you with a taste for more. And he certainly shows that in his character story.

His R&D and testing of Elevens are a sign of things to come in SF3 when Urien and the Illuminati rise to power. He's contributed to Nash's resurrection (I'm guessing Helen used parts of Eleven to "Frankenstein" Nash's missing bod parts.

With his scene with C. Viper, we just a small taste of how grand Urien's organization can grow. If he could cause a few "suspiscious" deaths, research and experiement on Elevens while he's still rising to power with Sahdaloo still at it's peak, just imagine the power he'll have when Shadaloo crumbles at the end. Plus his dialogue perfectly paints his personality

Overall, Urien has an excellent character story: he sets things up to come, partially contributes to a key point in the Nash's resurrection, stays true to his character (both now and SF3), and does just enough to make a splash without making too much waves.

Akuma - I thought it was awesome that Akuma straight up kills Gen. I'm curious if Chun-Li ever finds out, what would the reaction be? And would she go after Akuma in another plot line? Sadly, and this is no fault to Akuma at all, obliterating Necalli just feels underwhelming because of how bad Necalli was in ASF. Hilarious faces and noises,  and Akuma emerge out was pretty cool though.

I did enjoy Akuma's interactions with Ryu, although it feels like it's been going on endlessly now. We always see the moments before and during the fight, but I enjoyed that conversation they had afterwards, even though I felt like I learned nothing from it. The thing I took from this was that wherever Ryu's journey ends, he and Akuma will have one last fight. And the conclusion should be enough to close both of their chapters for good.
Obviously, that's not going to happen any time soon, but its got me imagining what a final climatic battle of two masters would look like, and if we're at the end of Street Fighter's life (god forbid), how would that final battle come out.

Other than that, Akuma's story had some epic moments, but nothing that teaches us anything new or sows any seeds for any more pressing upcoming plot lines.

Kolin - Because we only know Kolin from SF3, and as a significant NPC character in ASF, we don't have that good of an understanding of her full character. And it was imperative that her character story not only give us some insight about her, but also sets up some significance about her. Kolin's character story has everything I could ask for in a short character story: A chilling past, a meaningful fight with Guile (Kolin was hiding and resurrecting Nash, so if Guile won, all the secrets would be out), and it serves as a precursor to ASF as well as her services to Gill in the post-credits and SF3. I also loved the visuals in this story too.

Ed -  The only minor complaint I have with Ed's story is that I think it's a bogus explanation how it was Psycho Power that aged and bulked up young Ed in the time from SF4 to SF5. But I really enjoyed his story. The flashes of his past and his moments in ASF were minor reminders of his involvement with them. Menat's first appearence was a nice tease of what to expect of her, and a premonition of Ed and balrog's relationship together. And speaking of, it's him fighting with Balrog that probably has the most meaningful fight possibly out of all the other character stories. Ed  leaving to protect balrog, and balrog feeling like he's lost the one thing he's cared about aside from Fight money. And even seeing a side of Balrog that we've never seen before was very refreshing and very good for both Ed and Balrog.

We'll see how important Neo-Shadaloo is in future Street Fighter story plots, it's hard to say which direction they'll go with this. But based on what we got with Ed, his character story helped flushed him and Balrog greatly.

Abigail - In my opinion: Worst Character Story.

We learn nothing about him, each fight doesn't feel important, no ties to anything, and I'm left feeling more annoyed than entertained with his character story. With playing through all the character stories, there barely a single one that I didn't find at least a little enjoyment. But Abigail's, it felt like a complete waste of my time.

It isn't until a few character stories later where we learn that Abigail runs a legit autoshop business, and I wish they mentioned that in his character story, other than spending the whole time looking for a car like some idiot.

Menat - I think the best aspect of Menat's character story was that it's a fun showcase of her cute, laid-back, carefree personality, as if her animations and win-quotes don't already do that. Most of her story is just her giving premonitions to Ed and trying to give one to M. Bison (the later which foreshadowing his downfall).

One thing that I did find most interesting was her scene with Oro. I do think she was foreshadowing events outside of ASF to come, while leaving many questions unanswered. While her story doesn't reveal anything new, there's something to enjoy about seeing Menat's attitude in delivering her premonitions to those involved.

Zeku - Sadly, Zeku doesn't contribute to much in the grand scheme of things. But I found it interesting that rather than have his character story be about flashbacks and some Alpha fights that could mention Gen or other Final Fight characters, they have Zeku's character story focused on the future of Bushinryu, and having him branch out his services. The strider tease was pretty cool though. (Granted I'm not well versed in that lore to point out any commonalities)

We'll see if Karin or anyone with $$$ hires Zeku for his services in future SF games and/or plotlines. But as a character by itself, it's nothing special.

Sakura - We see one of the franchise's most beloved characters growing up right in front of us, and it's such a wholesome and wonderful feeling. I'm glad SF5 let her finally move on from not just her school girl phase, but also moving on with new life goals and directions. Sakura's story is probably the most relatable for the people playing it. We all grow up and as things change, so do we. Sometimes we get lost and are unsure what to do or what we want, whether it be for now or the future. And it's that feeling of realness between the audience and Sakura is what makes her character story special.

The Ryu fight had a familial and comforting feeling to it. I won't speak on the shipping wars of Street Fighter, but Sakura's and Ryu's bit at the end was really sweet and cute. And a great way to end it. It feels Sakura can take the next step in her life, whatever that may be. And whether she's still fighting or not the next time we see her, I really hope it wont be long before we find out what Sakura does with her life.

Blanka - Blanka-chan is the best thing to happen to Blanka since his he was reunited with his mama. Like Abigail's, Blanka's story was stupid filler entertainment. But unlike Abigail's it was actually fun and enjoyable (albeit the turn-off-your-brain type). Cracked a smile on my face with Blanka was trying to promote and market his Blanka-chan dolls, and I did like the SF2 plane reference.

Falke - I'm left more underwhelmed with Falke's story. I feel she has most of the problems that Ed lacked. For instance, it's safe to assume Ed learned boxing from Balrog, but where and how did Falke master her psycho-bojitsu? I also know what Ed's motivations are. But I don't know what Falke's is. I feel she's just along for the ride, which doesn't help her character. I would've like to see Falke's backstory before becoming a Shadaloo experiment. Maybe also give her something to fight for? Like does she like Ed? Does she want to protect Ed like he did when he rescued her? I just wished that was clear.

Only reason why Falke's story isn't "garbage" was because it answers some questions on Neo-Shadaloo's motivations, and how Ed recruited her. But I'd like for more exploration with her if she does come back

Cody -  Just like Sakura, I'm also very happy that they have Cody break from his delinquent character to a much more respectable and redeemable job as the newly appointed mayor of Metro City. He knows slugging out thugs in the streets isn't going to be enough, so he takes a step above and becomes mayor. Now he's in a much more powerful position to protect the city he loves. If SF ever likes to dive into the thick of it, I'd love to see what his campaign looked like, or what kind of city-wide policies he's drawn up. We don't know if Metro City is going to be a hub for future SF plot lines, but if it does, we can count on Cody to be right in the thick of it, fighting for his city.

While I do feel Abigail's fight felt like a great introduction to the new Cody, his fight with Zeku just feels... forgetable.

G - G is easily the most interesting and most intriguing newcomer Street Fighter character. However, I did come away from his character story learning absolutely nothing, and having more questions than answers. the most intriguing part of his story was the Tarot reading Rose and Menat on G. He got the Fool arcana, which doesn't nessecarily mean "stupid". If you play any of the Persona games, you'll know that the Fool arcana is one with endless possibilities, and of unlimited power. So going off of that, I say that we're in for some big things with G for the future of SF (Rose's story mode may also confirm this). But as a character story by itself, it feels like it matches G's arcana, The Fool: Dumb but untapped with possibilities.

Sagat - While I do believe Sagat and the Satsui no Hado is a compelling direction to take Sagat's story, I feel that SF5 is a little too late for that. Perhaps (and this is just my opinion), if Sagat were to have a taste of the dark power while he was still bent on having a rematch with Ryu, maybe it would make more sense. But I feel Sagat has already moved past the vengeful side of him against Ryu. So having him struggle with the Satsui no Hado doesn't make any sense unless he had some connection with Ryu (which I didn't feel at any point in his character story). It was a strong choice for him to have a taste of it, but I felt that it was just the wrong choice at this point in the lore. And it's better for them to have a direction to go in (even if I disagree with it), than to have him stagnate for another story arc.

Kage - Unfortunately, Kage's character story doesn't do much, if anything at all, to build him up as his own entity, even if he wins all the fights in his story. Hell, he doesn't even survive his own character story, which makes Kage seem even more foolish and laughable (on top of his lazy design). However, the best thing to come out of Kage's story is that it seemingly closes the chapter of Ryu and the Satsui no Hado struggle. Ryu's already grasped the Power of Nothingness in ASF. And now with Ryu unaffected by the temptation of the Satsui no Hado, it feels that Kage has lost any and all control or influence he had on Ryu. And while his sendoff isn't anything memorable, seeing how Ryu's darkside doesn't appear in SF3, we can only assume that the Satsui no Hado arc for Ryu ends with Kage.

    E. Honda - It's meant to entertain, and for many Street Fighter fans, and those of real culture, it does exactly that. While it fails on all the other aspects with regards to lore importance or character development, it more than makes up for it with its entertainment and hilarity (and fanservice) factor. Honda would make a good manager in whatever business venture he so chooses when he isn't street fighting. Plus "HOLD IT RIGHT THERE" should totally be one of his "parry" or "command grab" dialogues if he appears in another SF game.

Lucia - Unlike Abigail, Lucia's felt like a proper reintroduction. There were references to Final Fight, but at the same time, with all the changes that Cody and Lucia (and Abigail) have gone through, it feels like seeing an old friend for the first time in years. Plus, I love the humor bits in this: her shakedown of Abigail's business + reactions, and her RIP noodles at the end.

As said in Cody's, I would love to see what kind of political drama Metro City and it's city council members would be involved in. Not just petty offenders like Mad Gear, but also potential future organizations. If we can count on Cody to be there to protect his city, we can count on Lucia to do the same.

Poison - My favorite part of Poison's story was seeing her softer side. She's always had a dominating personality, so after her and Hugo had a falling out, it was awesome to see this side of her that we don't see. Which is always good for Poison's character, even though we don't learn anything new about her. We never even got the reason why she and Hugo had a fight to begin with. Despite that, it's a decent story with both funny and softer moments.

Gill - Gill's story is excellent. SF Producers have mentioned some of the character stories takes place after ASF and some even venturing into SF3 territory. Gill's story is his revealment to the world and thus spearheading the rise of the Illuminati that would be seen in SF3. I also loved how Gill's story also builds up G's character into something possibly more powerful (and potentially more dangerous) than what he seems to be right now. And finally, as powerful and menacing as Urien was in his story and in ASF (in spite of limited screentime), Gill makes him feel 2nd rate, as Urien is practically begging his brother to acknowledge him.

Gill's character story checks off every box and was really enjoyable to see the seeds of the Illuminati organization start to rise to the surface. While I do think a viral video with G  to spread the word is something a little out of left field, it still works. And we're left ponding for more as we are only given a taste of Gill's Harmony.

Seth - Much like how I feel about Seth, their character story can be boiled down to Wasted Potential that will go nowhere. Seth is revived, and I loved the surprise that Seth gets revived into a female body. But even with an uptake in insanity, I feel their hatred for M. Bison and Shadaloo just won't go anywhere. With M. Bison fallen, and Shadaloo in shambles, where is Seth going to go with this? How long are they going to be chasing ghosts until they gets reprogrammed with another purpose? Potentially, if Neo-Shadaloo has any influence in future plotlines, Seth could show up and be a derailer of things, much like Necalli was in ASF, but to go from Final Boss of SF4, to this, I can't help but feel bad for Seth.

Dan - Entertaining and dumb. Dan's story and Dan's character in a nutshell. Very fitting, fun, and stupid. I love it. It has the same feel as Blanka's: Stupid-turn off your brain filler-episode kind of fun, the same SFII plane travel reference, and enjoyable. Fun moments his his two closest confidants: Sakura and Blanka. And Blanka-Chan vs Saikyo-boy: Let the marketing battle begin!

Rose - I don't think there was a character story mode that got me and possibly the SF community more excited about the future of SF lore than with Rose's story mode. She does a lot more than the supposed future of SF protag Luke does: Foreshadowing of a great force of nature, the end of the world, and the hint of restarting back at Alpha. (There were also some rumors that Rose already has started back at Zero when it the story leading up to it all began in SF Alpha). Plus more of building up of G to be someone more significant, some cute banters with Menat, and the famous bath ending scene.

We'll see where the story goes from here, and if we'll get ala Mortal Kombat and retcon everything all over again, or dive more into potential end-of-the-world drama. But Rose has sparked interest in SF Lore and story once again.

Oro - I love how Oro has an established relation with two of the oldest SF characters: Rose (who is more than likely immortal), and Dhalsim. Even getting his japanese shirt from Rose was a wholesome touch. Oro is another great character story that does a fine job in building up the future of SF potential plot lines. Just like with Rose and Gill, Oro's character story builds up more potential with G. And we learn that despite Bison's fall, his influence and power is still felt upon the world, which if left unchecked, could lead down the path of another apocalypse, very much as Rose predicted in her character story.

I love Oro talking in Confucius/Uncle Iroh manner, and also planting the idea of how such an apocalypse can be prevented. Possibly something to explore in future SF games.

Akira - If SFV character stories were like anime episodes, Akira's is essentially the Friendship and Beach trope episode, which is something I greatly enjoy. No long-term implications to lore. But maybe Akira ends up joining Karin's entourage, and we'll see more "Adventures of Karin and Friends" with Ibuki, Sakura, Karin, and Akira. I loved the flashback to Rival Schools, and giving us more insight of what happened during that time.

Overall, it's fun, cheerful, wholesome, and building bonds between the four ladies. At the end of it all, I felt very happy experiencing this short character story.

Luke - The last one is simple and short. Lots to unpack and definitely doing it's job of setting him up as the future of SF. Luke's backstory of seeing his father died is a good catalyst for inspiration. And after serving his time in the military, Luke has lost his reason to fight, but a quick spar and some beers with Guile makes him realize he can do more afterwards. I wished that Luke's Story mode gave us more to it, like motivations or some groundwork to get excited for him as the next protag of the franchise. But i loved seeing him and Guile going out for beers after their only fight.

If any of the "end of the world" prophecies that the previous characters have predicted shall come to pass, we can assume that Luke will be at the forefront defending the future. But his story feels more of an introduction than an actual tie-in with any future plotlines.

    Luke's story write-up:

Luke's story begins with him having a flashback about the fateful day he was hit by his father, Robert. He was in a mall surrounded by people running and screaming in a panic. Luke never seen his father behave in this manner before, as he was often a quiet man. The situation they were in was pretty dire. His father found an explosive device that was set to blow up the mall.

Once he noticed this, he ordered Luke to run. It took being hit by his father for him to actually gather himself enough to run. The mall went on to explode not too long after. It was the work of terroists. Had it not been for Robert's quick thinking to help evacuate others, there would've been a lot more casualties.

After experiencing the heinousness of terroism, Luke resolved to fight against it. He joined the army and grew into a very strong young man. Even though this became a natural part of his daily life, he was still left feeling empty.

One day he was approached by Guile while he was training. Guile could sense that the young soldier was bothered, so he asked him if he was up for having a match. Luke gladly accepted....warning the old timer that he won't pull his punches, which was fine with Guile.

Both are shown having a drink together after bruising each other up a good bit. Guile knows Luke is stressing about his future and heard about him losing his father to a terroist attack.

Luke admits this was what motivated him to join the Special Forces, but he's also been thinking about what lies beyond the military. He's not sure if being a soldier is enough to help him grow stronger.

Guile has been in Luke's shoes before. He also knows others who left to military to search for what they were looking for. Even though Guile would hate for the military to lose a skilled fighter like Luke, he sees no reason to stop Luke from fighting on his own terms. He then makes a toast to Luke's father and to his fight going forward.

Luke always viewed his father as simple, quiet, and reserved man prior to the incident. But after seeing how his father conducted himself that day, he quickly realized that his impression of his father was all wrong. Luke has now decided to fight his own battle and vowed to become the man his father was in the future.

Hard to believe we've been doing this since 2016.

The roughest time had to be win when Poison, Lucia, and Honda were released. That ish was so hard. I was up the entire night into the morning getting those.

It's been fun gathering win quotes for the entire cast since the beginning.

And we appreciate so much all the time and effort you put into doing these!

Looking forward to SF6 with ya.

    Luke's Story Mode Thoughts

"Someday, I want to become a man like him" = Luke's Father.

Luke lost his father to a terrorist bombing, and later grew up to become not just a strong fighter, but Special Forces as well. Impressive for a young kid.

But now at a crossroads, trying to find out if military fighting is what he wanted to do for his foreseeable future. Luckily, a quick spar and later some beers with Guile made him realize that people can find a new purpose for fighting long afterwards, thus leaving Luke to ponder what to do next.

Simple and short, but definitely sowing the seeds for his potential future role in SF6.

For something short, there's quite a bit to unpack, but a lot more to get excited for. Guile sees a little bit in himself in the young fighter, but I also see some similarities to Chun-Li as well: both lost their fathers to terrorists and ended up honoring their dads through fighting what they believe in. Now Chun-Li had gone through a similar senario, where after M. Bison's defeat in SFII, as seen in the Street Fighter IV Chun-Li Aftermath, she's been trying to live a normal life, and sort of lost her will to fight. But she managed to ingnite that fire inside her once again. And after the fall of Shadaloo, she had easier transition from fighting against Shadaloo to a motherly/teacher role with Li-Fen.

Right now, Luke is just trying to figure out his future role and his reason to fight again. And I'm sure we'll get more answers in the next game. Now we don't get much more than that. Luke does feel he's gonna be the next protag, but I'm curious as to what capacity and what story will follow afterwards.

I know he's anti-terrorist, and the Illuminati doesn't feel anything like a terrorist group. (Cult yes, but no terrorism). SO I'm curious if we're getting set for a new villainous organization in the horizon. Is Luke gonna go solo, or will he find comradery with other fellow fighters?

ANd with that, that is the end of Character story modes for Street Fighter 5. I'll probably expand more on my thoughts for the way Capcom went with it. But despite it's short length, there were some good ones, some bad ones, ones that made us laugh, ones that gave great development, and ones that didn't. But I appreciate Capcom actually doing more for the story than they had with previous games. And hope they continue to put a little thought and effort into future story modes (short or long) because it's become a staple in almost every fighting game now.

    -----

Last time I'm doing this until SF6. It's been fun, but lets finish this thing!

Chun-Li to Luke: "You leave yourself far too open... A sign of your youth, I suppose."

Thoughts: Basically Chun-Li being a teacher to a young, and hot-headed Luke, if they should ever meet in canon. With him being a completely new character, and with no prior interactions beforehand, it's hard to guess what a meeting of the two would be like. As stated in my story mode thoughts for Luke, I see similarities between the two with their history. So maybe Chun-Li can serve as someone who gives Luke guidance. If Luke were to be the main protag in the next game, and he does have to fight against another evil organization bent on world destruction, maybe one of Guile's friends he calls in for a favor would be Chun-Li, so there'd be a level of trust between the two.

It's all speculation for now. We'll see what happens in SF6.

Luke to Chun-Li:  "Damn, that's some fancy footwork you got there! I learned a lot!"

Thoughts: Luke's impressed by Chun-Li's kicks, nothing new or spectacular about it. But it does speak to Luke being teachable. Sure he comes off as a hot-head, but he isn't stupid. He's young, but he has much to learn. So I see his excitement in his win quote. But, like most shonen anime protagonists, I see him wanting to become stronger, and a good way to do it is to learn and fight with those with more experience than him.

That said, more of his quotes definitely show he's gonna cater to the millennial crowd. With his "kinda cringe" and

    Arcade Mode thoughts

Interestingly enough, his final boss is Guile, so we'll see of their future connections in SF6

Luke's arcade ending has him beating up Dan (or assaulting?) And despite him saying he's not military anymore, he forget his discharge date, so now has to file some paperwork and write a formal apology.
