  1. The Vita version was always a little rough, at least for me. It would crash a lot, the controls in the XMB would get fucked up. It was great to be able to emulate stuff on there but it was definitely not the best version. Retroarch has definitely improved a lot in terms of UI from when I first started using it several years ago but they really need a non-programmer type person helping with the UI and options. It's a great emulator but not terribly user friendly.
  2. Do you guys prefer standalone emulators or things like Retroarch? I like retroarch but getting it set up the way I want it takes so much time most of the time, I usually end up going with standalone emus.
  3. Golgo 13 Top Secret Episode was the shit. I never finished the game myself, but it always felt epic and was a really well done spy game. I remember getting to Greece and getting rekt by those broads at the Parthenon because I never had enough ammo and they were like zombies you could pump 7 rounds in and they'd still be walking towards you.
  4. That game looks pretty sick, I'm gonna have to keep tabs on that one too. I put that Vigil metroidvania ony Switch wishlist and will be buying that asap when we get home. That one will probably jump the line in my game queue.
  5. I agree with all that. Someone on SRK had a signature about some MVC player who it was said would win a lot less if they stopped hating themselves for losing and while I think it was meant to be a joke, I think there's some truth to that. Especially if you love the game. There's a joy to being beaten by someone you know is much much better than you but you're able to hang with them a bit better than you were last week, and there's a sting to losing that someone who is more casual will never know. And then there's winning especially against someone who is on your level or better. Even just hitting the training room to goof around and finding something you think it's possible no one has figured out yet. This thread is making me miss my competitive days! If you aren't emotionally invested in whatever it is you're working at, whatever it is, how can you ever really improve?
  6. I don't know how many people play, but I thought we could use a thread for the series just in case! Imo 5 Special is still the best SamSho game, it has the pick-up-and-play simplicity of the other games but it also has a lot of complexity under the hood once you learn your character more what with meter and time management, State Of Nothingness time slow combos, and just the variety of options in terms of play styles and how to play each character. This is probably the most played SamSho game and you can find players on Fightcade, PSN, and Steam. I haven't been playing SamSho7/2019 as much but it's a really good game and if you've never played SamSho in depth before, it can be a good way to get your feet wet as a lot of the concepts carry over to the other games. If you can find people with whom you have a good connection, it's fun. Having a fiber connection will definitely help you have a better experience online. SamSho Discord (has lots of resources for the various games but especially 5Sp and 7) : https://discord.gg/SHs2WVF Let's Learn Samurai Shodown V Special (Tutorial video playlist I made centered around 5 Special but many of the concepts apply to just about all the games)
  7. Ps4 is probably the best platform to have it on although I don't know how many of the greats play on PC. I know for SamSho5Sp pc is probably the better platform but there are a lot of killers who play on PSN too.
  8. Playing SamSho5Sp really buffed up my fundamentals, but even before that, I went through a period of a few months where I played nothing but Ryu in this Korean SF4 mobile game (it had pay to win super buff characters but I was just using an A tier Ryu) and it really made my fundamentals improve because most of the time I was facing people with characters that could 4 shot me so everything had to count. I've beaten people who were probably better overall players than me just because my fundamentals and spacing were better than theirs. I feel fortunate to have grown up in a time when most fighting games really only offered largely fundamentals rather than games that emphasize subsystems and big combos. I think that's why a lot of newer players take so long to learn the footsies stuff, because there's so much else to learn. Playing Ryu mirrors is a really great way to improve fundamentals because in most SF games, he has an answer to everything, it's just not always the most overwhelmingly great answer. Speaking of fundamentals, did anyone play that Footsies! game? It was fun, although my phone really played it sluggishly after awhile. :(
  9. I agree with Justin that fighting games are mostly the same. A lot of it is space control with your character's moves, knowing your character so well that you can bust out their options without thinking about it, and knowing which of those options is the best option given matchups/situations/etc. But getting to that point can take a long long time.
  10. Aaaand just shaved off another 5 seconds! I really need to work on my finesse (not making extra key presses when rotating and moving pieces) but my pattern recognition is getting better.
  11. Same. If we played it on some Saturday evening that would probably work for me anyway. Btw what platform do you own samsho for?
  12. Depending on where everyone is, it might not be that bad if everyone's in North America. +1 vote for SamSho but I'd also play 3s or even MK11.
  13. What'd they change? I can't say I've ever used the party feature.
  14. You have excellent taste in CV games, those are among my favorites too! I find people who started with the older games are more likely to play and enjoy the metroidvanias than the other way around although even most die hard metroidvania people like at least Rondo. i think SotN, while certainly a bit overrated, is still a great game and was a pretty big risk to take at a time when the series probably DID need a new direction so as not to end up like Mega Man. I've played it quite a lot even though when it came out, it took me awhile to really get into it because it didn't have a lot of the things I liked about CV. But I think it stands up as one of the best metroidvanias because it seemed like IGA spent so much time trying to recapture what made it so great in the first place, that the subsequent metroidvanias only showed how great it really was. That said, I'm a hardcore CV fan, and if it says Castlevania on the cover, I'll spare no expense and at least give it a chance, so when Konami would decide to go in new directions, to me it meant that while it may not turn out the best, it would at least be something different. So I loved the LoS direction, just like I liked Judgment, and I even had a really good time with Grimoire Of Souls. So I don't understand someone being a fan of the series for a long time and not wanting to see it potentially take new and interesting directions. It's not like you can't play the old games until you're dead if you don't like the new ones.
  15. I didn't really play SFV at all because after SF4 I decided I was done with SF for the most part. Bad mechanics, bad designs, nah. You can keep it. I actually had the most fun with the iphone version of the game because it didn't contain some of the crap that made the main game so dumb, tho it had some of its own dumb stuff.
  16. Guile. Game just sucks and I've had top players get legit mad when I've said that and backed it up with receipts they don't like.
  17. I legit don't understand this line of thinking from people. If you played and knew the series, LoS (1 anyway) is Castlevania in spades. I suspect the only people who think it's "not Castlevania" are people who played SotN, Rondo, and a couple other random CV games (probably the Sorrow games, now THOSE are games that don't really feel like Castlevania imo) and based it off that.
  18. I definitely loved that the puzzles were actually good as opposed to how they are in most action games. I would have been ok with even more but I imagine it would break things up too much. Paladin is fun, that's where the combo engine really comes to life like in many action games. You should definitely try it out!
  19. Exactly. The phone still has a lot left in it really, though if it had an unlocked bootloader, I could flash a custom ROM to it and probably use it even longer.
  20. Same here! I loved how gritty the story was, the setting, the enemies, etc. The game's combat system was really fluid and deep (you can always tell people who are either bad at action games or just didn't bother to mess with the combat system and call it a "GoW clone" 😂) and I really had a blast with it. It feels a lot more satisfying then LoS2's even though I liked what they did with that one. All the stuff people talk about "bluuuhhhh is not Castlevania" is people who have a really narrow definition of what CV constitutes and don't seem to really know the history of the series. I also thought it was a cool origin story for the series, especially with the DLC where Gabe has to take vampire blood to save the world. He's a much more sympathetic character than Leon imo. I platinum'ed the game, probably one of the only games I consciously did they for and I had a blast doing it. Maybe I'll take another run through it, it's been awhile since I played it.
  21. Just got this notification to my S7. Fuck you Samsung...
  22. Glad to hear someone else liked LoS1 besides me. I've been a massive CV fan since 88/89, and I thought the direction they went with LoS (1 anyway) was excellent. It's unfortunate that the game gets the bad rap it does by legions of internet people who have probably never really played it.
  23. Hoping this gives +R a new lease on life. It's easily my favorite GG game and it's nice to see Arc continuing to give it some love. Hopefully they follow suit with all the other versions of the game besides the steam version.
  24. Btw @iStu Xyou want to make a new Nintendo/Switch thread here or should I?
  25. Just beat my Guideline Tetris personal best in 40L Sprint by a full second goofing around and using freestyle stacking rather then just going right side well Tetris-only stacking which now has me going 🤔
