In Ed’s V debut blog, it’s noted he was “kidnapped at a young age” - https://news.capcomusa.com/lets/browse/the-young-commander-ed-joins-street-fighter-v

Yep! However, things coming from capcom usa are usually taken with a grain of salt... unless it's from a jpn producer/director. Even in SFV there are things that were wrong in the localization....

I think was the contrary, iirc Decapre is older than Cammy as Decapre was the kidnapped one while Cammy was a clone of her with the addition on Bison's DNA... wich i guess is why Cammy have blue eyes?

That was also the story making me think Ed was a clone, as we know he have some Bison's DNA... so i ever thought ones with Bison's DNA were born with it, not that was "added" later

That was the initial thought back when SFZ3 came out. Decapre resembled like Cammy because of her hair (pigtails). Since it was said that she hails from Russia, it was a safe bet that she was kidnapped, enhanced like Juni and Juli and that a clone was made with Vega/Bison's DNA in the mix.

However... when Decapre was revealed in Ultra Street Fighter IV, producer Tomoaki Ayano gave the following statement: "We plan to talk more about her play style and abilities in the future, but for today we’d like to explore her story. For those not in the know, DECAPRE IS A CLONE OF CAMMY. At a quick glance she does look like a scary Cammy with a mask."

Two years later, Street Fighter V director Takayuki Nakayama, answered a question about the matter a few weeks after A Shadow Falls was released  (open X to see the trend):

capwpanda: I'm sorry, but I'd like to know which is the big sister, Cammy or Decapre?

takaNakayama: Don't know if "big sister" is the correct term, but Cammy is the oldest. It's defined (Decapre) as a clone of Cammy.

capwpanda: Is there a reason for them having different birthdates? I thought that Decapre was the oldest because of her appearance and close birthdates...

takaNakayama: I feel there' s a one year difference. Shadaloo is known for controlling the aging speed. Like with Abel.

Since Cammy DOES have a birthyear or age mentioned in some games (16 yo while she was at Shadaloo and 19yo during SF2, also her dog tag mentioned this info even during the Zero era), she might not have been submitted to aging speed... unlike Decapre.

About the clones being blond with blue eyes.... it's actually less DNA meddling. I'm no geneticist, but you need to activate several genes in order to get darker phenotypes.

That's the same reason the first clones (as far we know) were females (remember Dolly? Hum, Dolls, Dolly, Dolly Parton., big breasts, Juli....).

20 hours ago, CESTUS III said:

Other thing was him having faster aging in common with Cammy and Abel, wich was one lore feature of shadaloo's clones... but maybe the addition of Bison's DNA may cause it?

I don't think so. They age faster to age of combat (circa 15-18 years) and to be able to use some Psycho Power. That's the case with Ed, he was able to use it when he got rescued by Bison/Balrog while pretty young, his powers grew as he got older (he even tried to "Psycho Shot" Urien), and when the aging process got complete, he can snatch his opponents with Psycho Web. LOL

Thought that too, but guess if they want use ASF HQ ruins as location they can just pretend not whole structure went destroyed and call it a day, i will no be much surprised lol

Could also be under Ring of Power stage....

    15 hours ago, DarthEnderX said:

That doesn't make sense though, because Decapre's disfigurement is a result of some flaw in her creation process.

9 hours ago, CESTUS III said:

We have no idea what caused her face scar, but we know it's  not skin anomaly caused by creation gone wrong (IF was created), as we have vid confirming at some point when she was young she had no scars on her face

    (timestamped)

I'm more inclined to consider it a scar, also because in some concept sketches they considered various types of scars and seems clear were meant to show she went through violent shit

The one that became canon to me seem burning type, some were more like slashes cuts

Guess if somebody can translate the notes  we may gain some new info on that

    2489706-usfiv_decapre7.jpg

I think could have been easily because Shadaloo test hard af their members even before the battlefield, see example how Abel gone through LOT of shit (maybe the SF char with most scars) likely because canon wise he was considered very expendable

It's not degeneration from her creation. Besides, have you guys ever noticed that Decapre's USF4 mask has a crack right where Cammy's left cheek scar is?

Probably Decapre got her face burnt from a mission or even training. However, I really would like to know what Psycho Contamination is....

About the scars, those are just production notes and instructions of how it should look (darker rougher, etc). The top right even mentions "something sharp. Balrog/Vega?"

The stage resembles the SIN stage from SF4 but I’m thinking it’s distinctly different. The S.I.N stage was to make Seth clones so I’m thinking this stage is the Shadaloo equivalent for Bison. All the test subjects in the tubes are candidate bodies for Bison that are being imbued with Psycho Power.

Bison was resurrected in one of those test tubes in the beginning of SF4.

Actually, the S.I.N. stage wasn't for making Seths. That was in a secret lab where Mike Bison was in charge to take care.

The actual stage is actually a exact description of what Smart/Smalt Raven before finding Vega, but i don't think it's the same location.

I mentioned this on twitter. Do we actually know if Ed was a clone or was a kidnapped kid that got aged up? Over the years I've forgotten.

5 hours ago, CESTUS III said:

Not sure we have definitive answer but

Very first time we see him was in a shadaloo lab and already had shadaloo logo on his hand, combined with faster-aging (till physical prime) is a clones feature in SF lore i would say he's likely to be another clone made using Bison's mysterious blond/blue eyes dna

Example i don't think Dolls had faster aging, as they were "just" kidnapped, powered-up and brainwashed normal girls

From previous discussion, we concluded he was kidnapped at a very young age. The jpn sources hint that. Ed himself mentions, on the 2018 april fools Side Reader story that he couldn't even recall the face of his parents. Also it was never mentioned of him being created from scratch in a lab, like Abel (and Seth) was. He was always mentioned as being the young who was experienced on.

The localized text mentions he was made in a lab, but I think in the jpn actually mentions he was raised, or grew up in a lab.

You're right about the Dolls, with the exception of Decapre, who is Cammy's clone.

5 hours ago, CESTUS III said:

One thing bit strange is Ed actually abandoned the base (and Rog) in his SFV story, maybe he did'nt went much far from it?

Big hand on background may be the one that was holding the earth globe in 4 kings stage

Totally looks like it, but that wouldn't make much sense. The whole place got engulfed in lava as soon Ryu, Chun-Li, Li Fen and Guile left the Inner Sanctum. The same happened with the Secret Laboratory in SFIV where that machine (BLECE?) fell to a lava lake, taking the fighters inside with it.

5 hours ago, CESTUS III said:

Wonder if this may hint Ed's lab stage actually is in SFV Shadaloo ASF HQ, going further with the theory the german flag (SF6 Ed)  may mean the HQ was in Germany... we know as canon thing Falke got german language influence from staff working  there (while Ed may have dodged that as was basically raised by Rog)

If that's the case, then SF6 Ed story might lead to him finding Falke. Remember SFV wasn't a linear story....

Hey anyone understand German? I'm curious about what the lyrics of Ed's theme are. Apparently they are in German this go around.

I think @YagamiFire is from Germany. He might help.

Has ANYONE ever been able to find a scan of Ryu Final in its entirety?

I think that @bakfromonhad it scanned in a (Psycho) Drive. Don't remember if it's the original jpn scan or the english one.

I only got the first volume in english (and a few chapters published on Gamest). The second one isn't easy to find, and when I do it's pretty expensive....

I can do a rundown video of the first volume if you'd like.

  4. TMNT in SF6 showcase. Sorry, although I love TMNT, I'm not buying these, no lip sync? C'mon!

NOTE: Mike's smiling while pushing Manon to the fire was weird AF!

The original TMNT 1987 theme song, sung by "Luke" (Aleks Le was asked to sing it using Luke's voice LOL). Really think he should have screamed "Cowabunga!" in the end....

BTW, for some weird reason (copyrights?), the original vocals can't be used anymore since the Cowabunga Collection last year....

If anything, it's the most comprehensive SF Lore video on the web. He covers everything (except SF6) from all the mainline games, the OVAs and Aftermath trailers, Final Fight, and every single character.

I've watched it, I'd say it's accurate. Def went through a LOT of research to get some of his findings.

I need to fully watch it but I already noticed some wrong info.

Like SF1 being a tournament and Ryu feeling some kind of energy to defeat/scar Sagat...

Besides, he also uses the 30th Anniversary profiles as source of info. Those weren't written by Capcom, but by 2 researchers at Digital Eclipse and are packed with inaccuracies... mainly how Nash dies. Big red flag.

But kudos to him for having the video done. I can only imagine the insane amount of work to research all of the (convoluted) SF lore. 😍

I dunno, depending how they go about it, it could be cool. It's way too early to write off. It could be more than just taking the land, it could show some of the origins of the SS and Rashid's ancestors being stomped could be more than just a land grab, what if the wind element in Rashid's style was a threat to an early illuminati who hadn't gotten all the sacred treasures? What if there's another angle entirely?

Still copy/paste of the Thunderfoot story😅. Vega and Shadaloo wanted the TF land because of the ore mines (at least that was the reason back in SSF2) present there 30 years prior SF2. I'm not totally sure if the fact that it's a sacred ground could have any impact on Psycho Power. I can't find any source confirming that.

I did Rashid story mode. Nothing special here. A recap of a shadow falls, deciding to become a streamer to showcase his fights as a way to find his place in the world.

He finds Ryu and asks for a rematch. The thought never occurred to him to stream the fight. He enjoyed fighting without distractions and can see himself walking down Ryu's path. But not before getting some use out of the drone camera he just brought.

Found Rashid in world tour. You have to meet Azam in Nayshall at night near the hideout.

    You mean his arcade story?

I see. Let's see if there'll be anything interesting while you bond with him.

I do hope we get answers in SF6, because SF7 is a million years away. If the G arc doesn't start during SSF6 then it will likely be forgotten. Can't keep postponing the apocalypse forever.

So was Chun-Li's. Her SF3 ending shows that she was teaching Kung-Fu for the glory of the motherland etc. etc. but now she is in Metro City.

Not sure if that wasn't a mistranslation/localization error. Li-Fen calls Chun-Li "Miss!" in the localized version while in the original jpn she calls her "Big sis!"

Chun-Li being in Metro City was purely for plot and WT gameplay reasons (the same goes for Jamie. So now Yun and Yang protected Metro City Chinatown?) so that Li-Fen could be kidnapped by Mad Gear. There was a stage in China where she or Jamie could be.

    Zangief's Story

      Reveal hidden contents

Zangief's story begins with him spotting a flyer on the wall, catching his attention. The flyer announces a search for a partner in the Colosseo, with an open invitation for everyone to participate. Zangief's excitement grows as he realizes that someone is seeking a partner for a tag team match. It has always been his dream to have a bout in the Colosseo, and he sees this as the perfect opportunity. With determination in his eyes, Zangief proclaims that he, the Red Cyclone, will answer the call and be at their doorstep soon.

Filled with anticipation, Zangief rushes off to the Colosseo, ready to prove his strength and skills in the ring. However, he fails to  notice the last flyer on the wall, which bears a different message. This new flyer warns that only those serious about marriage should apply and that applicants will be vetted through trial by combat. The flyer is signed by Marisa.

At the Colosseo, Zangief finally comes face-to-face with Marisa, the Pankratiast who wrote the flyer. They exchange spirited banter, with Marisa commenting that Zangief looks even more appetizing in person than the rumors suggest. Zangief, filled with confidence, affirms that his muscular body will never quit until its dying day. The stage is set for an epic battle between the Red Cyclone and the Pankratiast.

Zangief and Marisa engage in an intense and thrilling fight, showcasing their impressive skills and strength.

After the battle, Marisa commends Zangief, acknowledging that he lives up to his reputation and is every bit as good as they say he is. However, she then surprises Zangief with an unexpected revelation, which leaves him confused.

Marisa shows Zangief the part of the flyer he missed, which states that the purpose of the gathering was not for a tag team match, but for marriage. Zangief is taken aback, realizing his misunderstanding. He stammers, trying to explain that he thought it was a tag match and that such matters require careful consideration.

Feeling flustered, Zangief suddenly remembers that he has a match scheduled for the day and hastily uses it as an excuse to withdraw his offer to assist with the tag match. Zangief then swiftly leaves the Colosseo, leaving Marisa behind with a mix of confusion and amusement.

She muses to herself that she had spread the flyers half-jokingly, hoping that someone strong would show up, but never did she expect to come across such a catch like Zangief.

Despite the unexpected turn of events, Marisa expresses a hope to meet Zangief again in the future, hinting at a possibility of crossing paths once more.

It's sad that Zangief's patriotism was wiped out of his character interactions in SF6. Possibly because of the whole Russia/Ukraine war.

    1 hour ago, Hawkingbird said:

Personally I don't believe a word she says when it comes to other characters.

Me too. Her affirmation about Chun-Li's sabbatical and Viper are pure bollocks unless confirmed by other means....

In SFV, Viper mentions that the reason Juri wasn't in prison was because she wasn't her primary target.

I was kinda surprised that she eliminated the hackers that worked on the Black Moons project.

This again.... What are these materials?

The Games and their official supplemental materials trump any of these sources. Materials from the modern era trump anything from the 90s if the two contradict.

LOL! It's you who stubbornly keep bringing this up from time to time to see if I have something new to say/show.

The story can be reverted according to the narrative Capcom wants to follow. They are the owners of the franchise. If they want to revert the story, they can. They can make SF1  a tournament again. They can say that Gouken is dead again. It's their franchise and they can tell the story that best suit their needs. And right now (at least until today), what they have given us about Vega's fate at the end of SF2 is:

    spacer.png

How many times over the past 14 years  "Vega committed suicide with the explosion of his base" was mentioned in the SF lore?

    Answer: NONE!

And they had quite a few chances to do so, like in the SF4/SSF4 artwork book, SSF4, SSF4AE, USF4, SF5, the Shadaloo C.R.I. profiles, SF5 AE, USF2, Street Fighter 30th Anniversay Collection, SF5CE, (I won't count SF6 because we don't have the whole story yet), How to Design Capcom Fighting Characters, Street Fighter Beyond the World, Street Fighter - Those Stronger Than Me (the artbook sold at the SF exhibition), SFVClimax Arts and I didn't even counted the compilations like Artworks Ha and Artworks Kiwami.

How many times Capcom showed (or referred to) us Gouki defeating/killing Vega after that obscure trailer was released?

    -USF2 (the latest installment of SF2. they could have just removed the SGS cutscene if they didn't want it there. but... guess what, Capcom even REVAMPED it from HD Remix with Vega throwing the cape before being SGS. Just like they did wth the Hyper SF2 Anniversary Edition);

    -SF5AE (The picture above, Gouki's SF2 path ending is the only one that shows Vega mortally wounded);

    -SF 30th Anniversary Collection (although I don't count those profiles as canon because of inconsistencies/errors, it does mention Vega losing to Gouki. Capcom of Japan even reprinted the All About Street Fighter book in their collector's edition with the real SF japanese story);

-The 2019 April Fools joke with G. It shows Gouki SGS Vega.

Honorable mention: Daigo Ikeno mentions that Vega's alternate, torn, costume in SF4 was designed after his fight with Gouki. Who knows if Ikeno knew about the obsecure suicidal trailer.

Can Capcom change their mind and say that Vega commited suicide, with or without fighting Gouki? Yes they can! It's their franchise. But that's not the message they are sending at the moment. And... to be honest, I highly doubt they will touch with that part of the story again.... Maybe with the master/pupil interations, something might might be mentioned (which I don't see it happening as they almost didn't touch the games endings. Dhalsim SF2 ending where he's seen coming home traveling atop of Kodal after a tournament was one of the rare cases). Until then, Gouki SGS and killing Vega is the latest statement of what happened.
