Gotta say I agree with Maximilian big time that a Luke vs Sean rivalry would be GREAT for SF6

Where did he say this? I don't really care about Luke and Sean having a rivalry (I think Sean is above him tbqh), but if Max is talking about wanting Sean then there's a good chance his legion of casuals will start parroting him and we end up having more people ask for him, which is a win in my book 😂

  2. Always got a Yoda and Luke thing from ESB in regards to Ryu and Oro where Luke/Ryu didn't really want help from Yoda/Oro after assuming them as being weak. I definitely don't think they've been training since SF3 because we never saw them even really fully interact, let alone agree to train together, so I think this bearded Ryu is just the result of him being under a long training period while Oro kept an eye on him.

I'm trying to make a random guess of how long it's been since SF3 and I'm thinking we could be looking at maybe five or so years since SF3, or at the very least 2-4 years. Luke looks like a pretty well seasoned fighter now with his scars. Still confused as to where his tattoos have gone. I'm sure Capcom just decided to get rid of them but I can't help but wonder if there's more to it. I'm probably overthinking it though.

According to Oro's ending, Ryu will need 15 years to be ready to fight him/be a master in his own right etc., and I doubt SF6 takes place 15 years after 3S. So at best this is probably Ryu at the start of his Journey with Oro or they scratched that plot point. This is NOT Post-Oro Ryu IMO.

Yeah I don't think this is post-Oro training Ryu. Maybe mid-way at best but regardless he's definitely held up somewhere training his ass off.

@Scotiagot to give you credit, you were probably right about timeline jumping beyond SF3... lol never thought they would just threat SF3 arc like that, leaving all that events in a box with 23years of dust over it 🤣

Guess what we see is post-Oro-training Ryu 😯

Yeah I have to admit I didn't think they'd go this far ahead past SF3. Looks like it's been a considerable amount of time since SF5 which was pretty much in and around SF3 anyway. You can tell by Luke's scars that he's been a wandering fighter for a while now and, as you said, Ryu has no doubt been training for a long time.

They will probably retcon a lot of the events of SF3

Once again, I do not know how someone can come to this conclusion after seeing everything Capcom have been doing to build towards 3 from within 5. I genuinely do not know why people still think this.

RIP Alex again. My boy never even had the chance of being in the spotlight

Yeah unfortunately not. He was never going to though, the burn of SF3 bombing and him being the face of it meant he was probably never getting spotlight again. I still hope he's in SF6 though (especially if it's set after 3), I think he'd look great in this style.

After all we are already seen some changes, see Urien canon look, Kolin being now a fighter, Gill actions and behaviour, Sean getting a main cast sister etc

    • Urien being bronze with white hair is just a retcon to make him stand out more and not be another blonde white guy. Hardly ruins the series' narrative.
    • It's not that hard to believe SF3 Kolin can fight really.
    • Don't see how Gill's actions are any different than in SF3 other than him interacting with the wider world of SF which was a given when they decided to bring him back.
    • Sean having a sister has been a thing since New Generation fact files.

Not going to really bother going into the rest of your post, but just like every other attempt I've seen to justify why SF3 should be retconned/rewritten I still so no reason why it should actually happen other than just a personal 'I want it to' thing. None of the 'changes' you listed affect the lore of the series in any meaningful way and is a drop in the ocean compared to the other things they've directly tied SF5 and SF3 together with.

  7. We've already gone past SF3 within 5 itself so I fail to see why Capcom would reboot it. I would (obviously) hate to see 3 rebooted as I think it was a pretty good story all things considered and it'd be a shame to see everything it did be erased for no real reason. This is also ignoring all the stuff 5 did to setup towards it like Oro taking an interest in the idea of someone like Ryu, Sean meeting Ken and becoming a fan of him, Chun Li adopting Li Fen etc. I mean seriously, why would they reboot it after building up to AND passing it in 5?

And chances are it'll be mostly new stuff anyway in 6 due to everything they've set up in 4 and 5 needing a conclusion, but that's Capcom's fault more than anything. Just because it might be set after 3 doesn't mean it has to immediately follow on from it. I imagine most of that game's storylines to just become side stuff while Luke and whatever he's doing takes prominence. Like, we're not having Gill and the Illuminati be the villain of 6. If anything he's probably going to be the new Bison who's manipulating stuff from the shadows who the characters relating to him try to stop while Luke deals with the new threat.

I don't actually think he is. Capcom wants it to appear so, but there's enough out there to make it ambiguous.  Plus the current team has said they love how people are playing with the mystery of it all. I don't think they would just spill everything now and so abruptly.

As of SFV there's a few things:

    - With Wayne Nakamura's profile, there's mention he saw a man in an American port. This seemed to be Capcom quietly confirming the "Is Q in Ken's SF2 stage" theory that's been around for a while

-In SF3 supplementary material Richard Burgman issues a statement that the CIA cannot confirm or deny the existence of "The Trench Coat Man", an urban legend. It appears that there've been so many sightings and public curiosity that Burgman, the PR guy for the CIA, felt the need to put out something to get people to stop bugging them about it. SF3 seems to be a few months away from SFV and 3S a year after that. It's not impossible for a legend to start that quickly, but I get the feel that Q's been around longer than than a few moths to a year.

-In the developer's notes, they show that Q's mask is apparently supposed to have a keyhole and some of the notes mention that Q "feels like it's being manipulated from behind the scenes". I'll be covering this in the SF3 round up video I've been working on for months, but with the Ring of Galaxy stage, you can see camera men walking around with G's story costume mask, NOT  Q's. The big difference is that Q's shell-like mask looks like he's locked into it, but G's is like a hockey mask with a strap that he could seemingly remove at will. With all the posturing that G's gonna be a huge deal, I don't see his situation being wrapped up in 4 months and no one really being affected by it. Gill doesn't recognize G, but his powers seem familiar. In SF3, Gill says he has no idea who or what Q is.  Here's the translation from @Miðgarðsorm:

-With the revelation that some stories for SFV take place after SF3, it's possible G's takes place after. Th Illuminati's existence is incredibly hard to prove, but Gill fully unveils himself on G's incredibly popular stream. In SF3, I never got the vibe that anyone knew of Gill and the society publicly. If G's story is after 3, then that puts even more distance between him and Q since he's been around long enough that people have not only crafted urban legends, but he' s seen enough that all of his move names are rough descriptions the public has given to him  when he's in action.

-If the CRI profiles are correct, then as of SFV, Viper has been tailing Q for a while

-Q's skin colour is something I've been going on about for ages. It's a mystery. In some art, he clearly looks lighter skinned, possibly caucasian, but in some pieces his neck looks tanned, then is the actual in game sprites where you can see his neck skin or the skin above his socks, his skin is pretty tanned, not quite as dark as Dudley's, but more tan that someone like Alex or Ken.

-G is cocky and sure of himself , flashy, agile and wants to get his name & face out there. Q,  in his only spoken bit of dialogue refers to himself as an abomination, he's very simple in his clothing choice, he's powerful & lumbering, and doesn't make his presence known unless he wants to be seen and seems like the comic hulk in that he wants to be left alone. (he scares off the people following him in his intro)

    - Going back to the Ring of Galaxy stage, his staff members all wear that SFV story mask, while Q is locked into his. He may have been special or rebellious in some way. Whether or not Ring of Galaxy is true, the staff give an interesting hint of things to come. Everyone thought G was a joke, but he gained a surge of popularity after being Rashid. It kept growing after beating Menat and others. He then, in his arcade ending wandered the globe and capture more attention and support. With him being enough of a public figure for GILL of all people to utilize him for his grand unveiling says something about his amount of reach. It's no stretch that he'll gain followers. Since his unveiling and that promo image of G being shown looking rather evil, I got the vibe he was some sort of villain making his own organization. It's since been confirmed he's a boss and a huge threat to the world. It could easily make sense that This President of the world gimmick is his latest plot, but he's been around for a while, choosing only to resurface after Shadaloo's downfall. If he previously made Q or ensured his creation, but Bison or something drove him underground, it would make sense that now in the times of peace, he'd start to steadily sway people to his side.  Many of us have theorized that there's multiple Q's hence the appearing all of the world at contradicting times. It could be that Q is just a mind controlled agent, or he rebelled, got punished, escaped and now the others are hunting him. Heck, G's profile showed that one of the possible agents is female.

Great post, you provided a lot of good evidence here. Is it OK if I use this post (with full credit to you of course) in a video I make on G and Q? I don't know when I'll make it but a lot of what you put here is very useful and I'd love to use it if that's OK with you.

As for me, I've been on the 'G isn't Q' train since the start (mostly because I hated the idea of it) but as the years have gone on since G's debut the evidence that's been found and theorised pretty much confirms to me that they're not the same person. I agree with you that Capcom wants people to think they are, and for the most part it's working based on how many people just accept that G is Q (nevermind the godawful 'but Q is already in the game?!?!?' joke that keeps getting spammed whenever someone asked for Q in SF5).

Does anyone even like the art style for SF5 ? I wanna hear you guy's opinions?

It's good, but following 4 I felt like it was a bit...redundant I guess? I'm not one of those insane people that think 4 and 5 look the same (because jesus christ SF4 was ugly even back in 2009 when I first played it and had a super basic understanding of SF), but they definitely share a similar art-style. I've always kind of thought 5 was what 4 should have looked like, in that it's Capcom perfecting that style and making it not look like shit.

Model quality wise, I thought it was spotty with some characters looking amazing and others looking horrendous, but this is no doubt down to the many different studios Capcom were outsourcing SF5 to during development. For every Chun Li you had an Alex. It was just a shame and I hope that for 6 they don't outsource anything (or at least don't outsource to so many studios. I swear hearing back in the day that Season 1's characters were made by like three or four different studios which is just crazy). If they have to outsource though, just make sure the studio that made Alex's model never comes close to one of their projects again.

In-game artwork wise, yeah everyone else is pretty much spot on and that Bengus was all over the place and incredibly inconsistent. It's a shame too because I always liked his artwork for older SF games (never one of my favourites though) and I actually forgot how good the artwork in Kolin's character story was, but god damn is the art fucking bad in this game. To the point that the good artwork is either completely drowned out or not even remembered because of how much bad stuff there is. I think this is a case for the promotional art too which IMO is a huge step down from pretty much every other game. It's clear Bengus' style is just totally different to what it used to be and while that's fine and does happen, I just really dislike it and hope that he's as far away from 6 as possible. I really hope they get Nishimura or Ikeno back but I'll take anyone as long as it's not Bengus again.

As for my hopes for how 6 looks, I just want it to be different. I obviously don't want hyper realism or even Tekken style 'realism', but I just want the game to stand out on its own from the rest of the series. While 4 and 5 are clearly different graphically, as I said earlier they kinda follow similar styles and I think in the long run that hurts how the game is remembered in terms of its individuality. It's the same reason why I wouldn't want 6 to ape 3's or Alpha's style despite loving those games. Just give me a game that feels different, something that in 10-15 years from now I can go 'yeah that was undisputedly what SF6 was like'. Idk, probably rambling but after like 10+ years of similar art styles I think the series desperately needs a vibrant kick up the ass to make it stand out again. Hopefully with Ono gone we can get that.

  10. Finished Luke's character story and holy SHIT that sucked.

    Spoiler

Pretty much agree with what everyone's already said. I don't really know what I was expecting, maybe a little tease towards SF6 but we basically somehow got even less than that. I'll sum up my thoughts with a brief list.

    • Holy cow this was ridiculously short. Maybe the shortest character story yet? A few have had one fight but this one felt even lazier than normal for some reason.
    • His backstory is so incredibly generic. His dad was killed by a random terrorist attack. Wow, how original. And he joined the military to fight against it. Amazing. And now he's getting disenfranchised with the military. So well writt-😴😴😴. I'm not saying it had to be tied into some grand Illuminati conspiracy but like, this SF man, go a little crazy. This feels like the backstory to every Call of Duty protagonist, not the next main character of Street Fighter.
    • Speaking of, so far I have no idea why this guy in particular is going to be the next protagonist of the series. His story is as generic as they come and at the moment could have been filled by literally anyone else on the roster or any other newcomer they could create. I get they want to keep things simple for now, but this was too simple to me. I have no idea where he goes from this character story into 6, and I don't mean that in the fun 'oh they're keeping me in suspense!' way. I really have no idea why this dude is gonna play such a big role when he seems about as simple as they get.

Honestly that's kind of all my thoughts really, just shows how basic this story was. I still like Luke and am willing to give him a chance for SF6 but they could not have done a worser job in selling me on him being the next protagonist. As a major SF3 fan, this just makes me even saltier that Alex is once again going to be shafted in favour of this...grunt.

As things stand, they ended this game's story with another disappointingly weak character story, something that I shouldn't be shocked at after the absolutely horrendous quality of some of the past one. This character story should have been the thing that helped people understand why Luke was going to be the future of Street Fighter, a bold claim that is at the moment completely unmet.

Hmm, I dunno, though if you mean Captain Commando by CC, I don't buy the meme hah. I don't think he has anything to do with Cap if I'm being honest. I go over some details here:

Other than being a blond dude, I don't think there's any major ties to the two. Heck, Captain Commando, according to CRI is fictional in SF since Ibuki's pal Yuta mains Mack the knife in the arcade game.

I meant Capcom Cup lol. That whole Captain Commando thing was some dumb as hell theory Max came up with as a way for him to try and find a way to make Luke more interesting than he actually is lol.

  12. 7 hours ago, Daemos said:

These characters are nobodies! NOBODIES YA HEAR?! Bison is a fucking icon of the genre. When they make limited edition statues selling for $1000 of him, they sell like frickin hotcakes. The Shadaloo Army, who make up a significant portion of the FGC, will not stand for this. My lawyers will be in touch with you.

Few people here love SF's shitty-ass but charming canon as much as I do, but this isn't about story. This about keeping good characters playable in the game for their fanbase. In this case, fuck the canon. No one wants reductive knock-offs of legacy characters replacing the OGs. It never works (See Star Wars Sequel Trilogy) and it never will.

Cool so you're just incredibly selfish then. Good to know.
