Just beat FF7R. Man, what a fun game. I’m really glad I gave it a second chance. 
 
It felt really limited in a lot of ways but narrowing the scope of gameplay to broaden the story and narrative is a payoff I’ll happily take. 
 
Also despite the limited materia pool and moves you could do a lot of really cool customization with builds and really personalize each character so they feel unique. I also liked the fact you can level up your weapons so they don’t feel worthless or throwaway. For instance even Cloud’s nail bat is useful as you can  just turn Cloud into a critical hit monster with a massive HP stat. 
 
 I tried hard mode and it was smooth sailing until I got to scorpion mech and was like “oh…oh….oh no.” As I forgot about not being able to use items. 😂
 
Probably take a break before I play the yuffie expansion but yeah. Awesome time. 

I’ve heard really great things about chained echoes. It’s definitely on my radar.

BTW, I still plan on elaborating on my issues with HFW, is just that I am dealing with some unforseen health issues that I expected to have the diagnosis yesterday and having to help my younger nephew with his studies, since as someone with adhd, I have more experience than my sister in how to help him with that.

after i had time to think on it i really like xenoblade 3 but i think people that think its the best one so far have to be smoking something. i think its main story is probably the weakest and i personally prefer the worlds of xeno 1 and 2 better exploration wise but it does have strong character work and it's a close race between 2 and 3 in that area. 
 
i think this series is gonna wind up with a similar problem i have with the trails series in that everything about the games keep improving in various ways but the first arc had best antagonist and everyone after seems kinda toothless in comparison.

The amount of effort capcom and the SF team are pouring into 6 is incredible. I’m so excited for this game. 
 
 

PCXS2 is reminding me of just how goddamn good the PS2 generation was. So many great games in every genre, and lots of them still look pretty serviceable when upscaled to modern resolutions- not that I'm concerned about that vs the gameplay, of course.
