Well, yeah.  Necalli was fucked the moment they decided to make him an alien blob

Yeahh, I kinda agree. I actually like some of the weirder elements and freak characters in SF, but there are limits. Everything in SF to this point has been either through KI powers, tech/ genetic engineering, but a sudden jump to a full on mystical character was a bit drastic, which is more offensive that having a character shift the balance of SF's ceiling was just kinda clumsily tossed aside.

I would have vastly preferred the early fan speculation idea that he was an ancient warrior who went full SNH, got sealed up, never dying and was released somehow over the course of the ASF events.

  2. I'm thinking plans changed behind the scenes? Maybe early Ed was gonna push the Neo Shadaloo storyline strongly in another way and now, Ed's still on a journey, but it may not result in a fully formed NS? Gotta see more details for me to speculate further. Or since the time skip NS or some other org is a thing, but his main look is going with the relaxed streetwear theme most of the cast is rocking right now and his alt will be for ceremonial purposes? Not sure.

  3. Heck the barber guy could be a fan of Dudley's heh, his picture's right next to G's anyways. I can't make out his tattoo, but it looks like a Motorcycle on his left facing arm and something is my life" . I'm wondering if the wall is like those restaurants that show pics of all the celebs that have popped in there? Hmm.

edit: looked at the video in the highest quality. "Barbering is my life" is on his arm with a drawing of scissors. On his right facing fingers is something like "ROOT", one of his pins looks like something for the US armed services, maybe former member turned barber?

When my and my pals were watching the stream, we were wondering if Rudric had any potential ties to Dhalsim. At one point I wondered if, given the student-teacher themes, he may have been a disillusioned student who left him and turned to crime.

    Ryo's post:

""RUDRA" Rudra (ुढ्र [rudra]) is a storm god in Indian mythology. Its name comes from the root word rud, which means "crying, barking" and means "one who raises a roar" or "one who shouts". (From Wikipedia)"

Probably not the actual army and could be what he call his fans/followers.

This is exactly what I'm thinking. Hah, I was writing up something for this just right now, but yeah I definitely think this is more for his specific aims. His whole aesthetic utilizes uncle Sam, but he has no sense of patriotism and wants EVERYONE to unite, so if he's calling for an army, it would not be for America.

It’s definitely a cute cameo/easter egg because Dudley is in no way a barber.

I don't think it's indicating that Dudley's a barber. It's probably just an ad for his general brand or, since in this game members of the cast have opened eateries and merch, Dudley may be selling iconic mustache wax and this being a Metro city barbershop, it's in demand there.

I understand that Ken needs to have a happy ending, but what if he goes violent... What if his family are killed in the process and he becomes our Harvey Dent.... That would make things a lot more interesting...

After JP is deleted of course.

Ugh, I hope not. Maybe it's because I've read too many comic books, but dead family/dead family member/dead teammate is such an overused trope. Not even in origin stories, but "this issue will SHOCK YOU!" ways. You can drag a character through the wringer, through hell in so many ways and not go to dead loved one. The devs have been moving the series forward, but going back to another "good shoto struggling with evil/hate" would be a regression.

You don't even have to have Ken have the happy ending immediately, it could even be melancholy and be his new direction for the next 3 games where even with JP dead/defeated/depowered, the effects of the plot still require Ken to stay away and fix this. You can add new things along the way and build towards a happy reunion in SF8 if need be, but just killing Eliza and or Mel is a waste. Especially now that story is more important to the series, you could do more with the npc characters, you could make Eliza compelling, be his Mary Jane (classic era) who shows strength and resolve through the horror show that their lives, but the come together stronger.

For all that these folks have been doing to move the timeline, character designs, and motivations forward, Ken becoming Violent Ken would be such a waste, especially since they're doing something big with him and unique so far.

with all this build up, i really feel there is something wrong and bad could happen i just hope neither Sean or Ken would have a fate of being killed for the sake of NARRATIVE. we all know they are building up Ryu and Luke so much.

I believe Mel sooner be in SF7 or 8 like building up with Li Fen. Mel is the main focus of the cover for some reason and including someone similar to Laura without Sean?

I really don't see them killing Ken. This whole direction feels like they're giving him trials to give him new direction, but not a swansong. I'm thinking that they're breaking him down to build him up again will eventually reunite him with his family for a good ending.  I also feel that this is to say, sure Ryu and Luke are the future, but also Ken, while not a headliner, is capable of his own story. Ryu and Luke are giving their whole lives to their fights, but Ken's family and love of them is being elevated as his main aesthetic now, rather than, wandering warrior.

Previously, the mystical elements were grounded in fighting techniques, ki manipulation, and martial arts. I'm personally not a fan of this jump and I hope they try to reel it in and ground it in the lore's reality a bit.

Yeah, I was kinda concerned when we learned Necalli was not human and some Pillarman. I don't want things to wildly escalate. I REALLY don't want G to be mystical, I want him to be harnessing some sort of power rather than being a spirit or God.

Since SRK, I've been saying how I don't want SF to get into the shonen power creep / escalation trap. I want it to have martial arts and some mysticism a dip into some sci-fi, but I don't want it to go KoF and have gods and higher beings regularly. It works for that series since it was there right in the first arc and the series has always hovered in that realm. I fear going too wild could get into a tailspin.

Though so far with all that we've seen in SF6, it feels very much like we've come back to somewhat grounded setting. We're in urban settings, a manhunt, a plunderer with a power native to the series, and the path of warriors young and old, so I feel pretty safe for now. I hope that the current team sticks with this direction, has some surprises, but doesn't go crazy in the world structure or something hah.

  8. Necalli is a mess and a reminder of the narrative hiccups, I don't think an encore is in the cards. Heck even in the comments of this piece by ssshuckle someone points out that Capcom JP wished Necalli a happy birthday via Tweet, but Eng Capcom ignored. Ouch lol   Also, gendered & non-gendered pronouns are used in Japanese more often than English, may be because Necalli is inhuman, not sure, but I doubt this is anything. Like I said, Necalli was a mess and halfway through SFV, they just rushed the loc'd one out the door and into the dumpster in a hurry.

Honestly I am still not sold on JP being the next bad in the series.

Did anyone read what the devs said about G in @Scotia's thread? That wasn't even his true form. There is so much story and room to mine and expand with G/Q. I'm honestly shocked this thread is left wide open once again.

The only logical thing I can think of, is they are using JP to expand and tie-up the loose ends of the Neo-Shadaloo arc first before moving to something else.

    Yuuuup!

This goes with the theory I've had that G's been around for ages, but the President of the World Gimmick is just his latest. I still think G & Q are separate, but connected people, but this goes on with showing that they've both been around longer than we expected.

I really hope that if they are continuing the thread of G & Q, they do it early rather than waaay later. While I'd love to play as them in s2, I'm fine with cameos and references in world Tour off the ba to show that they're still remembered and we'll be going there eventually.

do you expect a major retcon on ASF?

between the story SFv arcade mode path and ASF what do think they will adopt since not everthing that happen in ASF do always compliment in SF5 Arcade path?

Hard to say. Since it's so recent and by the same dev team for the most part, I don't think so, but I can see them elaborating or tweaking things. They may be vague overall and just build from what was there if they're going to reference SFV.

This Twitter account has a new Japanese artbook (Street Fighter V Climax Arts +Zero to 6), and is highlighting sections of interest from it (in Japanese). Thought some folk here would enjoy.

Ooh, good find, thanks for posting, dude!

  11. These last Chun and Cammy posts got me to thinking. I hope that they introduce or even reference an epilogue to ASF or something, like once the big ending with Bison happened there was a big effort of striking down as many remaining global forces of Shadaloo or remaining loyalists or something so that the heroes could be marked as doing something. Cause so far it feels contradictory  with what we all saw happen vs what the SF6 canon is stating. I dunno, just one last adventure for the heroes to have before the time skip would be interesting, heck that way we could see or at least have in the background them fighting the cooler SF movie- styled grunts and other things introduced in Shadaloo CRI. I dunno, just rambling lol.
