    Is this a real question?

I care. I want a good moveset and fun to use but powerful powerful kit. This mindset that stuff is only good if it's good in PVP is really dumb imo. It's conflating two separate modes that don't play alike at all.

@iStu XAnd my motivation to put effort into upgrading to a next gen console takes another hit. If my PS4 Pro didn't seem like it was on shaky ground, I wouldn't bother looking at a PS5 purchase at all.

Can't co-sign. Holy Sword of Moonlight is a beast. It's damage output with the right build is great.

Not saying best weapon but it doesn't even come remotely close to sucking. The Claymore moveset never sucks.

Also long as the Scraping Spear is back then any other gear can kick rocks.

Link To The Past is so highly regarded because it is quintessential Zelda. It's the format most mainline Zelda games since then have tried to emulate or evolve one way or another, and set a precedent for hundreds of games to try and imitate its style.

It's also just a great game in itself. The artstyle, the music, the combat and the simple novelty of going out on a classic sword and shield adventure.

    There's a lot to love.

Kinda weird to say you wanted to play games during the era they came out and then infer that ppl are blinded by nostalgia in regards to their overall quality

The first area/first part of the RPD is the most redankulous RNG in the entire game. Which is to say the most bullshit randomness of any game I have ever played.

The 2 Lickers was in Claire A Side, right? Yeah. That was a grand meta-test of "Don't jump." You had X. on your heels, and had to walk out of the West Office around them, open the door, unlock the other door, grab the crank and grenade, and position yourself where you could dash around the opposite side that X. comes a'pimp stalking, exit the room, then stop, then walk out into the hall, around the Licker, dashing into the West Office again. And Gods forbid you left that corpse next to the safe alone. Good times.

Whilst I agree that ammo was plentiful after the RPD, on Side A, Side B Hardcore took the RNG fuckery and cranked it up even further.

But yeah. RE4 IS phenomenal. There is a reason why I have purchased it 3 times in as many generations.

Apples to oranges my guy. re4 is an action game, REmake 2 is a "survival-horror-lite" game imho. Honestly, I didn't have any issues with resources in REmake 2, there's ammo everywhere, especially when you factor in gunpowder.

O.RE2 is a better survival horror game for me (i've played it recently) cause combat is HARD and is mostly avoided to conserve ammo and stay alive.

The only way RE2 makes the combat "hard" is by throwing bullet sponges at you, or bullshit situations.

I had a hallway with 2 lickers, then Mr. X busts in and all hell breaks lose, for example.

Still an amazing game overall, totally see how you give it the "best in the series" crown.

RE2:R has made me a believer in properly done remakes.

After S+ing all 4 scenarios on Hardcore, I am now of the opinion that it is by far and away the single best RE ever made. And one of the best games of this entire generation.

Honestly I am not surprised. Our illustrious government has been playing politics on pandemic stimulus aid. Winters rolling around, people are losings their homes & businesses, some will likely starve/freeze to death,  and our politicians don't give a fuck. If you work and pay your taxes. You've paid more taxes than Amazon by yourself. 😑

Yup. It needs to be a directly similar experience for the term to have any value.

If you call something a Metroid, I expect very similar attributes re: 2D labyrinth with power ups and weapons and armor.

If you call something an Igavania, I expect a lengthy side-scrolling leveling RPG, with butt tons of weapons, armors, and other items, with secrets galore, all tucked behind item/skill gated puzzles and bosses standing in the way of your progress.

Hell, Metroid is more of an Igavania than 99% of the games calling themselves Metroidvanias. And that's just plain wrong on so many levels.

I always interpreted it literally. That helps in an definition. So, to me, it means a game that literally has game systems very much directly similar to Symphony of the Night.

It is like if a game is dubbed an "Arcade Racer", I expect something in the vein of Sega Rally. If a game such as Mario Kart, or Burnout, uses that as part of it's description, to describe its general feel, I find it is accurate and perfectly acceptable. Or if a game is dubbed a Side-Scrolling Beat 'em Up, I expect something akin to Double Dragon. Somethimg like Dragon's Crown, or Shadow over Mystra incorporating that into its description is also acceptable.

Using bullshit allusions invoking the name of a game such as Dark Souls to inspire purchases of something rather dissimilar, such as Nioh, is pathetic, and if there were any justice in the world would lead to the hiring of a more scrupulous marketing team. I like Nioh. But it could be called a deliberate, slow-paced, punishing, low enemy count loot-based game with a stamina bar, and that would be entirely more accurate. Not pithy, by any means... but a whole lot more accurate than calling it a game in the same vein as Dark Souls.

That's exactly why it's such a frustrating term. It's used to describe games that are nothing like ALL THE TIME. I've seen people call Zelda or Souls games Metroidvanias because open world-ish design and rpg mechanics, or earning tools that open up areas for you.

It's uses the broadest, vaguest, most "I have 0 talent for describing things so I'm gonna describe things by directly referencing otherthings that are similar on the most surface of levels."

JHDK reacted to RSG3 in Video Game Discussion Thread: Now Featuring Animated Avatars
Nope. Its Metroid with a dash of Souls. It uses Souls "Drop your currency on death" system, the Bonfire Checkpoint System (Bus Benches here) as well as the style of mood, atmosphere and story telling style in that the world is dead, everythings depressing, and you need to piece the narrative together through bits of dialogue, environmental hints and lore and shit. Otherwise the gameplay loop is Metroid where in you explore and fight to find abilities and skills that expand where you can explore and fight.

If you want an Igavania i recommend Bloodstained Ritual of the Night instead. That will scratch that Igavania Grind itch. Hollow Knight got none of that.

Why i dont like the term Metroidvania. Its too vague and non descript to accuratly describe these games to the people looking for them. Hollow Knight and Bloodstained get dumped into the same genre even tho one is an adventure game and the other is an adventure/RPG. I know we are only tacking one more genre onto the word Adventure but that fuckin RPG tag makes it a completely different experience and game imo.
