Like 90% to 95% of fgs sales come from consoles, with the vast majority always favoring the sony brand, with just very few exceptions, where the game stopped being released on consoles, like melty blood

Say what you want about me but I will never play this character just because of her name.
My taste in GG characters is similar tho. Baiken is best, and Jam is up there too. Ram is my second favorite and I-no/Pot probably round out my top 5.
One thing I’ve noticed about myself is that the more anime a game’s character designs are the less I like the dudes. Marvel and MK have plenty of male characters I like but in a game like GG not many catch my eye.
Edit: The black dude in Strive is fly tho so I’ll give them props for that.

That’s cool and all, but let me know when Ky comes out looking like Cliff Burton and I’ll try him out.
I do realize Axl is very much an Axl Rose themed character and that’s cool (even though I don’t think too highly of Axl Rose).
My favourite GG characters are the more traditional kinds: Jam, Kum, Baiken, etc. I just like more traditional/simplistic themes

Most of the GG Cast are Rock/Metal References from top to bottom.
Ky has a attack thats named Ride the Lighning
Sol is listening to Queens 24/7 to the point that Sin started to plug his ears.
Elphelt is literally guns and roses.
Most of the BB Cast are Pop-culture references.
Im set dead smack in the middle of europe in a tourist city that trys to come around with north german clichee stuff to hug tourists in.
The weirdest character designs (and also the most boring ones) for me are all in NRS Games.
Because even SF is to 90% just basic anime designs.
And foot fetish exposure...... loots of it.

Well, I don’t follow DB either so I don’t know about that, but anime games (GG, BB, etc) just have odd character designs to me... Aesthetically, everything has too much detail (for me) and is so over the top... I get that’s how Japanese designs typically are, but as an old ass, boring, westerner, these designs just don’t appeal to me. Then you have these characters who are also 1 years old or some shit, and it just adds to the wackiness that pushes me away.
and no offence to anyone that likes these designs. I do think they’re very well done - they’re just not for me. I’m just a boring old fart that never watched an anime other than the Akira movie (which I only liked for the awesome animation if I’m being honest) and the very first episode of DB which I watched when I was bored and downloading DBFZ
also, I agree that the wackiness in SF or MK or whatever is something I grew up with and am accustomed to, so I’m overlooking things in those, whereas I’m more critical to new things I’m not as familiar with to see how I feel about them when I’m determining if I want to get into them

It's not about being obvious or not.
People just overlook stuff when they're familiar with it. If you found someone who had somehow never been exposed to western media and tried to explain the Marvel Cinematic Universe or western comics to them they'd think you were insane.
Western stuff can be just as weird as anime -- it's just that a lot of people see it as the 'norm' because it's what they grew up with.
