  1. Alright, I'm finally playing tonight. Anyone wanna throw down?

Edit: Y'all. I used to be on a wired connection. Moved outta my apartment a month ago and the WIFI I use has to be worse than @TWINBLADESduring a thunderstorm. I haven't ever had so many stutters and disconnects ! I wanna play, but y'all deserve better playing conditions than what I can offer. So until I get my own place again (which likely won't happen for a while), I'mma be on the bad stuff.

Back to playing Ghostbusters I guess...

  2. I'mma nitpick lol. I was expecting Raiden to say "AHGEEBABALAYHIIEEEE!!!" Nope. No such thing in this game. Maybe MK1 is better for it?

Since that's out the way, I am actually very impressed with the animations. I'm trippin cuz I feel like I'm cheating on SF6 now lol

Animation has never really been NRS's strong suit, but it's reached a level as to where it is acceptable now. MK11's animation was decent. Also, the rest of the game looks incredible, from the stages to all the little details on the characters. I know it's a trend in the FGC to be condescending towards MK, but every entry is a labor of love with an amount of content and polish that leaves most other fighting games in the dust. MK11 is the best-selling fighting game of all time for a reason.

    I am definitely buying MK1.

Yes, I'll admit that I've been among the dissenters with the animations. Honestly when the games were digitized sprites the moves and animations looked solid and impressive for that time. I went back to watching the first three MK games and the martial artists who performed those moves knew what they were doing. Their technique was crisp and believable. But I'm not too sure what happened after MK3 up to MKA. I am glad that MK1 will be a treat to play though from a visual standpoint. I can definitely do without the fatalities - they don't offer anything gameplay wise anyway, but sign me up for playing on Thursday cuz I'm about to get it in!!!

Honestly, just from casual observation, the only character's animation that bother me are Johnny Cage. His attacks seem like they lack impact.

Right. Kinda ironic that Johnny Cage is the splits guy and his rising kick that should be one of the most impactful and fluid moves looks weak and stiff...

To be honest I think this is the best animated NRS game yet. There seems to be a lot less of those obvious looking mocapped animations (y'know, the ones that look like the characters are punching from inside a constrictive invisible box) and I think for the first time there are some animations that actually look really good!

One that came to mind is Sindel's fireball where she flips backwards while her hair flings a projectile forward using her backward momentum. I watched that part of the Sindel Kombat Kast a few times because it legitimately looked very cool. The characters just seem to transition better into different moves so it looks less jank. Obviously there are still some NRSisms still around but overall I think the animations as a whole have improved a lot.

Yes - I didn't think I was just seeing things. The one move that I've enjoyed the most is Liu Kang's Bicycle Kick replacement, Dragon Dance. It's so fluid and both versions are actually very impressive. I'm honestly kinda surprised at the quality of the move. I think it's a huge step in quality from his Bicycle Kick.

  6. So I’ve been more interested in MK1 than any other NetherRealm release. I’m curious about your opinions on the animations for the Kombatants. Since MK4, the series has had a significant amount of jank. This new one though is not as crispy as SF6  (think Ken’s free flowing Jinrai Axe Kick vs Johnny Cage’s stiff rising kick) but as a martial arts guy, overall I’m impressed by the animation quality and transition between moves. So yeah, what y’all think??

  7. Alright y'all, I have a theory about the Ninja Turtles crossover. So lately I've been spending more time reading and catching up on the TMNT comics than playing SF6  (great reading BTW!). And I just thought a little bit ago that a sequel to Tournament Fighters would be SICK. So maybe just maybe the prices are higher than normal because Nickelodeon is seriously looking at fighting games to potentially get a game developer like Capcom or Dotemu to make a new Turtles fighting game. Now back to reading.

(I'll be back on SF6 in ranked next week y'all! Anniversary week has been pretty fun and she's enjoying all the quality time 😍)
