  1. Alpha3 I love playing but cannot watch it at all. One move infinites are no bueno.

3s I love playing and watching but I'd like watching a whole lot more if it had more than 3 characters.

IV I like watching as long as it isn't lame Elena or vortex loops. Not real crazy about playing either.

V I neither watch nor play.

6 will do well on both I think, but man I still like Strive.

They've been pretty good about fixing glitches in this game, wonder how long until they get this:

Thank god we are taking anime stuff and putting it in SF. Not like any of it could have dumb consequences or anything. :coffee:

Nah it's ok guys, the internal balancing team is just way ahead of us.

That's great to hear. I was worried about the game turning into buffered lights all day. Didn't want to go down that road.

Yeah after some training room time, a jab follow by drush after one frame will just kara directly into parry.

After two frames tho, you're getting a light followed by a rush.

Although, the rush cancels almost all of your light's recovery frames.  It's a whiff cancel. There's still at least one recovery frame after the light is no longer active but lights have a surprising amount of whiff frames.

How is it 2023 and we still have ppl able to DC to protect their points? Dude disconnected literally as I emptied his life bar?

Surely there should be some kind of way for the server to check and see the disconnect

I've had people dc after the final ko. In silver. Game still saved him.

And how hard up you gotta be to nope out in silver anyway. Bro you want gold that bad learn a drive rush combo it's 100x easier.

Ken has plenty of specials that are not punishable on block. Frame data doesn't really dictate how good a character is in this game as much as it did in sfv since the game gives you so many options on defense, along with most characters only having 1 to 2 plus moves usually.

OD Fireball = -2 on block

HK dragonlash = +1 on block (+2 on crouching)

    HK Jinrai = -2

    Jinrai overhead = -3

    Jinrai heavy = -3

    Run overhead = -3

I think Ken is considered top tier due to the fact that he is extremely well-rounded with good normals and anti-air options. He has great pressure during jinrai strings. He can confirm into full screen corner carry and even switch sides if he wants. Most normals are cancellable into DI and I feel that Ken rewards players who choose to play a strong fundamental game utilizing all of the mechanics.

Thanks for this. In my defense jinrai is like 12 different moves, and I didn't even know the command dash changed the properties of the followups.

I'm enjoying Ken so much rn I'm considering removing the Ethernet cord.

Man hopped on after not playing for a couple days gained quite a bit then started losing but even without that I have a lack of motivation with this game.

Some shit with this game just puts a bad taste in in my mouth. I’m not gonna bash it and definitely not gonna claim sfv was better but idk i just ain’t feeling it that much, there’s not a character I’m interested in that much aesthetics or gameplay wise.

maybe gonna look into other characters I made it to Diamond  2 with blanka but maybe he just doesn’t work for me

how’s everybody else doing so far?

If they would just wholesale replace the input reader with the one from 3s that would be great.

And add damage scaling to DI combos. I'm fine with it being an alternative to the lowly jab combo to get out of sticky situations, but fishing for a DI just to get a full damage combo aint it.

I do like the game. Not knowing whom to main is weirdly freeing.

    ---

Today I took Ken into ranked. Can someone explain why he's top tier despite all his specials being punishable on block?

One of the big reasons why I don't like DI is because I feel like it invalidates the poking game.  I liked throwing out buttons but with Lily it's a fucking death trap.

Lol when I said the same about DI upthread I was fresh off a couple hours of Lily in ranked. That girl... She seems like she'd be a good character to footsie around with but she's really not. Like Reticently said, she's just not allowed to push buttons. Her reward can be good but there's equivalent risk, and that's just not a stable plan for neutral. Her range seems a little less than it should be due to her small stature. MP not being cancelable, b.HP is good but it's on a back, 2HP has long total duration, 3HP looks like it's airborne but isn't, HP rekka has little range... 5MK is good but a weapon user's range is on P...

And then she lacks a reversal.  And command grabs aren't immune to normal grabs. And she can't divekick out of a back jump. And she needs wind stocks.

You also really, really should pay close attention to the ranges where things leave you at on blockstrings. Its frustrating but there is nuance there that has gameplay implications

I legit like this part. I really like the footsies in this game.  Maybe it's cause I'm coming down off of Strive so "wiggle back and forth in a staredown" as cipher once put it feels refreshing but spacing traps after blockstrings feel great.

Well when they're not getting exploded by DI, anyway.

I'm starting to shop around for another character. Honda is killing my thumb, and I'm just not belligerent enough to go full sumo.

So here we go again. Who to main, who to main...

This is the only fighting game where I want to actively send people hate mail. Everything being negative is such a crazy ass thing for an SF game that it enables the biggest idiots to pretend they have defense.

I just wanna beat people and let them know they are fucking enabled garbage by this Woke Frame Data agenda letting them mash. Overall really great game that makes me want to be physically violent with others.

If Juri can have a st.mp be +2, then they need to start paying what they owe with the rest of the cast. And for the love of fucking god, either make Cammy's B.MP anti air again or just make her fight with one arm. So fucking tired of dudes jumping in for free because that shit has a dead spot.

I cornered them fair and square. Now lemme give them the M I 6 business.

    Giovanna main's lament.

Woe to the poor Gio main.

Look at that range though.  Platinum 1 is considered Ultra Silver in SFV and Platinum 5 is considered Ultra Plat.  The difference between an Ultra Silver and Ultra Plat player in V is absolutely massive, and all these players are 'Platinum' in SF6.  Kinda crazy.

Maybe, but if the playerbase becomes the usual bell curve then that's probably where a large percent of players will be living.

  11. 4 hours ago, Sonero said:

Its kind of interesting because in order to get them closer to the rank they should be on...they would have to go on a lot of massive losing streaks

No no, that's the thing. They ARE on the rank they should be on, Capcom is just playing a shell game with the labels for better feels.

Yes it means that when someone says they're Plat in SF we will forever have to ask which SF game cause the only similarity between sfv plat and SF6 plat is the nickname.

I mean unless you're some kind of word purist where "Platinum" should indicate a certain skill level across games and or franchises.

But even so I think SF6 is closer to most fpses on certain labels for certain numbers? Especially since they added Iron.

Is platinum in this game like Bronze in SF5?

Some of the people I run into are kinda eh....doesn't feel like they should be that close to master.

    ☝️

    Ultra silver, but yeah.

I think it's a drastically better spread for ranks than SFV.  A third of the playerbase clustered on the very first rank isn't a good look, and must be frustrating for those on the "FGs are too hard" train.

I'm sure after six months many of the bottom ranks will be as empty as the lowest floors of Strive tower, but that's frankly a better problem to have.

Mortal Kombat 1 appears to be Injustice 3 in reality if you look at the gameplay and trying to be like Marvel. At the last minute NRS decided to replace the DC characters with MK characters because then it may compete with T8 and SF6. Anyone think that I3 can compete with T8 and SF6?

Yes absolutely because they cover different niches, since MKOne has a team flavor now.

If they only had some kind of gore off switch I'd give it a shot myself.
