Tried Juri a bit more seriously, too, but I'm not feeling her. I'Ve always liked SFIV Juri and she's a bit closer to that than she was in V but there's something about her that I just don't enjoy. There's also something off when chaining together her charged releases. I can't for the life of me figure out the timing and had to mash the motions, which is super unrewarding.

I’m real curious to hear an actual Juri player’s opinion on the character because as a casual Juri player she feels bad to play to me. She has to manage 3 versions of every release now and chaining them together feels cumbersome compared to 5. It also still feels like she has to manage resources only to end up marginally better than what other characters can do with much less investment. Light release still feels much better than the other two, etc.

    SF4 Juri >>> SFV > SF6

Edit: Also 100% agree with your thoughts on Ryu. I’m hoping Akuma is similar but more visually interesting.

Honda has a great toolkit but feels like s.hp is his only button in neutral.

Lily has great buttons, but needs a ton of things going right to get a combo more complicated than just light chains into dp.

Kim feels like a more satisfying Guy, but her tools are going to force her to be played as a complicated set play character at advanced levels.

Idk what I need from a character in this game but nobody is quite "it" yet.

I know what you mean there are a lot of cool characters but also small nitpicky things I don’t like about them. Like i think Kimberly is very cool but her moveset has entirely too much going on for me to play her.

My biggest complaint with Manon is that outside of high medal grabs she isn’t particularly exciting.

6236 motion will DP not fireball.    😠

Try starting the fireball motion from down back instead of down. So instead of 6236 try 61236. Overlap like that is why I hate characters with so much shit on the same button/direction.

But they just feel so well thought out. JP got me questioning a bit with his NRS Projectile move set but overall its just damn.

It’s funny you say this because his OD reversal works exactly like Jade’s in MK11 in that it will beat basic strikes and throws (in that game it loses to other things like l jump ins and lows iirc, so not 1-1 comparison).

We also need more characters like Honda who can deal significant drive damage on block.

Expanding on this for a second, the amount of drive gauge damage you can take on punish counter from a non-SA, non DI attack seems capped at 1 bar. If you want to deal more than that you have to add a drive impact or use a super, in which case the damage adds up to a max of:

SA1: 1.5 bars (super adds 1/2 bar of damage)

    SA2: 2 bars (adds 1 bar)

    SA3: 2.5 bars (adds 1.5 bars)

Drive Impact: adds 1 bar, though raw punish counter DI does 1.5 bars alone. So PC Drive Impact > Drive impact does roughly 2.5 bars of drive damage, which is the only way to get that high without dumping a level 3 super. However if your character has a cancelable heavy you can get really close to two bars of damage doing heavy xx impact. Manon PC b.hp xx Impact does like 1.9 bars of damage, though obviously that health damage is extremely low on a combo like that.

Fairly inconsequential, but Manon’s hit grab seems bugged or balanced poorly in this regard. Most multi-hitting attacks from what I’ve seen deal their punish counter drive damage in chunks per hit. Her hit grab specifically deals it all on the first hit, which is funny because the animation can can get so long that they start regenning meter before you finish your attack.

I had a rough start in ranked. Won 7/10 of my placement matches, but ended up in Platinum. That's what I get for going raw in ranked with no labbing.

Eventually made my way up to Diamond. Feeling more and more comfortable. Just gotta get better at knowing what combos work in certain situations.

Going off your avatar I assume you play Kim, or are you running trains with Cammy again?

To me, the big difference is that it's on a meter that automatically refills.  FADC at least has some meter management implications going into next round.

If I have to pick a grievance with 6 (besides random frame drops in world tour), this is it…I feel like meter management is way too easy right now. Drive refills fast, several of the options are absolutely dirt cheap, and your bar is full at the start of every round. Between that and supers being an entirely different bar it feels like you have to try really hard to run out of resources.

I agree with PVL that half the bar for drive rush is ok…it’s that other stuff is too cheap. Drive impact, drive parry, and raw drive rush costing basically nothing is why canceling into drive rush feels like it costs nothing. You can do that, lose an entire bar of drive on block from your opponent, and still have plenty left over to use those options.

Personally I think drive meter should start off only half full or maybe 4/6 full every round instead of all the way full. We also need more characters like Honda who can deal significant drive damage on block.

But again I’m not THAT pressed about it. If it stays the way it is I’ll live.

@VhoziteBased on your character history I would have thought you'd be playing Juri.  She's most like Nash in my opinion in that she's more of a hit and run character that controls space well and can also zone a bit.

She is 100% the most like him. However,

    * I’m trying (perhaps in vain) to branch out from my usual play style

    * I actually found her kinda boring when in training mode. Not bad or anything but coming from SFV it felt like she was missing a move or something. I do absolutely love FSE tho.

Idk I’ll probably give her another pass at some point. Also gonna try Jamie tonight I really like his number 10 color.

The character crisis is hitting me hard. So far just messing with different combo trials but that’s making it worse because I’m treating the trials as if they’re absolutely all needed to play a character.

I’m trying to stick to my goal of learning a charge characters so that’s not helping lol. Funnily enough blanka is clicking the most so far. I’m avoiding trying manon till last resort because I know she’ll be my Laura substitute till she hopefully is in the game

I’m in the same boat. I’m trying to stick it out learning Marisa so that I can grow as a player but so far Cammy is who I vibe with the best lol. My heart also wants to play Manon but in my heart of hearts I know I’m gonna absolutely suck with her lmao

Edit: it’s hard to describe, but I definitely don’t enjoy how difficult it is to setup up all of Marisa’s coolest moves. Like the gruesome command grab, the zoom in from charged gladius, wall splatting with EX Sparta or Superman, etc all feels like it takes…too long. Not that it’s bad, but just that the things that I enjoy doing with the character won’t happen often. If that makes sense

Like Honda has to charge up his HHS, one use only

Ryu needs to denjin charge for every single fireball

Jamie needs to build up his drinks level and it resets the next round

Juri has to charge the stocks and those are spent on every fireball she throws out essentially

Lily has to stack up the wind charges and can spend them on her specials

Kimberly has to spend two entire bars of meter for a music install, which again isn't permanent

And then you get Manon who just casually gets to not only easily obtain her medals, but also her specials don't consume them, her supers don't consume them, AND she gets to carry them to the next round, while pumping out like 40% damage off every command grab at Level 5?

What you’re missing is that all of those characters you listed don’t have to interact with the opponent to stack their resources. Manon has to condition you into a grab or land a combo into her hit grab. The rest can stand safely full screen and stack resources if you let them. When Manon can whiff grabs to boost herself then we can talk.

Also resources don’t exist in a vacuum none of these characters are the same. Manon isn’t getting meterless 2 hit fireballs or advancing plus on block specials from her medals.

  11. Marisa f.hk is really good. Cancelable, safe on block, and can be one hit confirmed into a fast special if you’re on point or her target combo into a knockdown if you need something easier. I think she can hit confirm into heavy uppercut but if it’s possible the window is tight. However OHC’ing into medium uppercut is definitely possible I’m off 4 hours of sleep and I can do it.

The best part is that this leads to a really good oki situation. Medium uppercut>follow>dash lets you hit f.hk as a true meaty (it’s -2 on block instead of the usual -3). So theoretically, you can see if your meaty lands then hit confirm into medium upper again right back into the same meaty f.hk setup. If you don’t like that you can cancel the meaty immediately into charged light gladius and it will catch back dashes, drive impacts (armor break), or reversal lights try to check your -2. My favorite tho is that if they wake-up drive impact Marisa recovers in time to go into guard stance and grab their recovery (or you can just counter DI).

  12. So far I’ve narrowed it down to Cammy, Marisa, or Manon. Cammy I felt right at home but Marisa and Manon I need help or more time figuring out a gameplan. I will say Manon requires more brainpower than i expected.

Lily and especially Gief were a bit too slow for me. I know the former has a safe advancing special but I couldn’t cope. Ken is better than I originally thought but also just not for me since he doesn’t very little of what I actually like.

Juri I’m really on the fence about. She doesn’t seem bad necessarily but I also found her to be really boring outside of FSE. Probably need a dedicated Juri player to show me the way. I will say I LOVE that store is a proper special now with EX, different versions for every button, and can be done even while stocked.
