i have no issue with hitboxes being legal.  I DO have issue with the diagonal inputs being completely optional in circular motions, and whatever you call that 'crouching DP'  travesty, as if DPs needed to be more powerful.

But yeah, if you can hit all 5 inputs for a half circle, in order, on a hitbox, by all means, use a hitbox.

Pretty sure that's usually a question of how the game reads inputs rather than the box

In a lot of older games on box I HAVE TO hit diagonals for half circle motions or get nothing. But modern games (especially sfv) have such insane input leniency that it enables all kinds of silly things

Blame the devs not the cheatbox on this one is what I'm trying to say

Was the showcase good or should I just skip to the character trailers?

More importantly, do we have any "git gud" resources like frame data, magic numbers, and important stuff like that? Also, who is actually playable in the demo?

The showcase was single player stuff mostly

Yeah we known this game has a good training mode since the beta. Don't think it has a hitbox viewer but it has frame data on a little timeline so you know exactly what startup, active, recovery are on anything

Skullgirls is weird because they'll randomly get a big number of players competing but despite how many chances it gets to shine, it never feels like it SHINES. I think it's the BFTG issue but on a bigger scale: everyone wants to be MVC2 but it's ignoring the fact that MVC2 by in large was a beneficiary of being in the right place at the right time:

SG an ugly, nasty lil game is all it is lol

The people who love it really love it and they have some star power bc sonicfox loves it and goes to bat for it, but really the game falls into the trap sonero mentioned where it is just too degen for anyone but demonic fg enjoyers. I dont think its niche for any reason besides its own gameplay (and i guess the artstyle but these days people are into that right...?)

My gripe about Luke is that he's a PMC. I was fine with his "modern Popeye who does MMA" gimmick until I found out he's a military contractor. I already had enough of all the military characters, but a mercenary is even worse. There's no such thing as a "good Rolento".

This definitely the ugliest thing about him lol
"Sand Blast" indeed, ol blackwater ass

So I watched AutoMattock on reacting to DI, which sparked a thought... Am I gonna be ready for it during week one or am I gonna have to work on my reactions a bit more? According to him, DI from at least Ryu is 26 frames. I went to Human Benchmark to check my raw reaction speed: it's 271 ms. Divide that by 16.67 ms and I'm sitting at about 16 frames. My fastest time which seemed like a fluke was half of that at 8 frames. During the betas I wasn't so ready because I needed to train my reactions and have more consideration towards the mental stack of new mechanics in general. Maybe I'll have it down in the next beta? So, how's your raw reaction speed...?

Ill echo EC a bit and say your raw reactions are typically not reflected in a fighting game
innate game latency, controller latency, monitor latency, how ambiguous an animation is, whether it has big flashing lights or other indicators to make it easy to react to...

I consider reactable in FGs to be around 25f. Some say a little less but I like to account for people having dead cat reactions (like me). DI on paper is exactly the kind of thing that you SHOULD be able to react to in a vacuum but as many people have observed about it...

DI is effective at first because people throw it at you as a reaction/knowledge check and you fail it but then you get used to it
Which leads to you looking for it and getting hit by other things
Which leads back to you getting hit by DI because you forgot about it because you assumed you could react and were busy looking at other things lol

  6. Really weird to compare FF7 and SF2, they have a totally different weight to their respective franchises. SF2 IS SF, the franchise owes everything to that game, and there's a very easy argument that the whole genre of fighting games owes everything to that game. FF7 is monstrously successful and engrained into culture as a franchise unto itself, but it is ultimately just the fattest of several golden geese in the FF series.

SF2 is an origin, FF7 is a landmark. Square enix milks FF7. Capcom does not "milk" sf2, it either gives that game the burnt offerings it is due or suffers wrath lol

Not the best lineup IMO.  I thought Granblue would be there with the upcoming release of Rising.  I'd like to see Samsho there as well since that game is getting a bit of a second wind with the rollback patch in the spring.

I also thought granblue would be there one last time in its current version, but this makes sense too. They wanna push rising, and by the looks of it rising wont be out till the end of the year. They do have a side event featuring rising, so its not like theres no granblue presence at EVO.

Melty and MK making it is surprising...didn't think they would pull it off. I like the lineup personally, no smash or smashlike games is always a positive in my eyes, and UMVC3 being back in it is cool. The real weird thing is cutting down top 8 to top 6, payout included....dont think anyone is taking that well.

what makes you guys wanna play SF6?

Are you gonna stick with it longer than V or is it gonna be flavor of the month and then back to Apex Legends?

It seems like it might be a good/fun game and they seem to be putting in substantial effort into features that matter to me (netplay)

No idea, depends on a lot of things but it has a way better shot of keeping my attention in general than other games lol. Its competition is melty (which i like a lot but has a dogshit pc port and other issues) and strive (which i also like but don't feel a burning need to grind). If uni 2 drops that also probably claims my loyalty over anything else

RC is mighty nice but you're only expressing with it once or twice a round, and 9 times out of 10 its red RC.  Yeah it's a great system, even if it's actually like 3 or 4 different systems sharing the same name and animation.

With Strive I'd say its more because any hit vs airborne lets you hit them again any way you want, with gravity scaling to kill infinites, and you can also sometimes transition A2A hits into a ground combo.  This is so much better than the super-rigid juggle points system that like every SF uses since ST.  More visible and easily understandable too.  With the airdashes, double jumps, air blocking, air gatlings, air RCs, and even air gold bursts all of which SF doesn't have, choosing to go airborne doesn't feel like such a dangerous commitment or that you've lost all your tools except a very few normals.  That opens up more mobility, and hence, more incidental hits from various angles and relative positionings that aren't exactly the same from case to case, and can tax one's ability to convert into something meaningful because of slight differences.

Sometimes even a simple thing like more active frames especially on hitboxes that don't exactly overlap can improve variance, such as the 3 sets of hitboxes on early / mid / late Gio/Ky cartwheel or most Behemoth Typhoons.

you needa run the set with sonero he'll show you what he means by player expression in strive

(he means stunting with brc overheads)

Belated, but GGs @Shahenzan Took me this long to get back to my gaming machine.

Match felt pretty even.  I have a horrible backdash habit, misinputs galore, the Daisuke uppercut, and general spaghetti I need to clean up, but it was a fun fight.  I dropped so many rounds I coulda won. The health nerf is definitely real.  But I think I only stun dippered one 5H in all 30 games. Made about as much difference as guard crush Sacred Edge.

I was wondering why you jumped so much til I saw your last Steam message.  I didn't know he even had any safe jumps lol

    ggs gamer

yeah i been playing a little more recently and have not been pleased at how many people just mash on me so i had to upgrade my offense. time in the melty blood mines taught me to look for OSs everywhere lol

Can everyone give their reason for why they stopped playing V? I used to have all you guys and other people in my list of favorites but almost no of them were ever online. Made it seem like the game was dead.

    netcode kept getting worse
never fixed some of the things i didnt like about the game (constant sense that everything was stubbier than it should be)

realized just how conceptually wack vtrigger/the entire vsystem is

and most importantly they kept nerfing ibuki smh

Why do you say that?  I'm out of the loop on DNF, haven't played since the summer.

Think the last version of the game boiled down to picking one of the very obnoxious top tier characters and leveraging their stupid gameplans. Striker neutral skip and guard breaks, hitman get to 30 percent health so he can tod you from a safeish dp or just kill you slowly with his ambiguous # of hits instant overhead mixups, etc etc

The new version didn't take any of that away it just added more bullshit to every character which is not a balance philosophy i care for. Dnf might be a cool game for people who like something really simple and really bullshit but that demographic is not me lol

Oh right that makes sense. Will do.

Oh I agree she's buffed, but some are saying she's a meta threat. I don't buy it.

I will say it's nice to believe we don't know who the best character is rn. I mean yeah it's probably just one of them thar gun characters but it isn't proven yet?  😅

Idk man id buy testament stocks but i can't resist nago he's just too good at his job even with the nerfs lol

I think the best char is still happy chaos but the balance feels closer than last patch. Axl and anji feel especially stronger

Lol Ky got nothing for this patch except nerfs to top tiers. (Although that is still greatly appreciated.)  But yeah the previous patch's buffs to S disjoints and air gatlings make a world of difference.

I haven't played any more Test and am still bearish on the characters prospects.  They're a worse Ky on a better gimmick.

How you doing? Or are you on that DNF crack?

Bearish on this version of test? I implore you to reconsider,  testament is chucking more plasma than ky or any other character could dare to dream about

Nah i thought dnf was stupid before this patch and it only got dumber. Ive been making do with humble nago and playing melty
