I enjoyed Doom 2016 more than eternal. Eternal has you juggling gear so much and throws such relentless waves that it's a bit overwhelming. I usually enjoy really tough games, but Eternal is just a bit much. To be fair, I've never been a big fps fan, so I'm guessing I'd like it more if I was better at the genre. I definitely like the bfg ammo mechanic better in 2016 as well.

Eternal’s TAG2 forced me out of my comfort zone and got me using different mods and weapons, which has lead to a lot of experimentation and allowed me to realize some techniques and tips, most of which are helpful for console players and I’m sure are already well-known, but I thought I’d post them here, just in case:

    Precision Bolt Quickswap:

    Microwave Beam Stun-locks:

    mastered micro missiles:

changing weapon mods from within the weapon wheel:

also, I noticed something else about quick-swapping in general. I know it fired weapons faster than just firing on one non-automatic gun (obviously), but it seems to actually fire more than twice as fast. I held fire down with my rocket launcher against a building in the background of Taras Nabad and listened to the distant explosions of when the rockets hit the building, and if I did quick-swap Rocket Launcher with Precision Bolt combos the distant explosions of the rockets seemed to occur more frequently, plus there were the PB shots in between. That’s pretty crazy.

I totally get where you are coming from.
I personally don't dislike all Nu Metal, but i do think that the Nu Metal term is a misnomer tbh.
Nu Metal only shares some of the most passing attributes of Metal with the heavy sound, much like Metalcore, which btw, i love many bands of Metalcore, so i don't really share the disdain of other metal heads to it, but i also get them.

The 3 genres are cousins with similarities, but they don't really share the same feeling and philosophies that drive the songs and the written structure.

Dunno who said it, but i think is very true, that Metal is music for musicians, and you can tell on the high end acts specially on the more Technical and Progressive acts.
Where you can listen the passion that drives them.

I do realize it's all subjective and really doesn't matter- I just have a personal revulsion to nu-metal akin to what a classical music enthusiast probably feels when they hear a tiny snippet of a famous piece sampled in an F-tier rap song.

I did make fun of floorpunching metalcore fans at a show once in 07. They only wanted to hear dollar general breakdowns- we didn't give it to them, so I threw change on the floor and asked if they wanted to pick up pennies while flailing about.

...And it isn't the lack of solos that makes me hate nu-metal, it's pretty much everything else about it. It is whiny, angsty late 90's-early MTV pop rock inbred with hot topic mallrat-ism. It is musically uninteresting to the extreme, aesthetically heinous, and the culture it came from and furthers is more trashy than a rural carnival port-a-potty that hasn't been dumped for a week with daily hot dog eating contests. It is faux heavy music for gangly awkward kids when they needed to rage from being told their pagers would be turned off if they didn't go cut the grass. It is the musical equivalent of getting a barb wire tattoo to look tough. It is edgy only to the sort of people who think saying "fuck" and "motherfucker" 8 times in each sentence makes them intimidating. It made Fred Durst rich and famous- that alone is enough of a damning indictment.

Metal should be catharsis from the discharge of rage, nu-metal is more akin to the feeling women get when they watch a tear jerking straight to TV Lifetime channel movie.

Korn: 3 bass players and a whiny guy impersonating the Tasmanian Devil.  I remember hearing one of their songs on the radio and thinking my speakers were blown when I heard how shitty their guitar tone was.

Yeah I played the shit out of LoI and still enjoyed it, but if they'd made good levels it would have easily been a top 5 CV game imo.

Well LOI has some pretty fun combat so at least it succeed in its goals for the most part lol. It is too bad LOIs level design is so bland and repetitive because of that was on point to that game would probably be considered a classic.

Yeah, Legacy of Darkness was pretty good. Not what I'd call "great" today, but I enjoyed it a lot at the time. It had some really cool atmosphere, and actually fighting vampires other than Dracula regularly was nice. Also, the levels were much more interesting than both PS2 CV's, especially LoI. IGA was so focused on making the combat more fun than the N64 games that they seemed to ignore level design almost entirely.

Tbh I've always thought that Resurrection game looked a ton like the 64 games and nobody seems to like those (I love them!) so I doubt anyone would be all that hepped up about the game if they'd actually made it. There were GameBoy games that had decent stories, it's not even the lack of story itself, just that the story they have is absolutely ridiculous given what we know about Alucard in SoTN. People stanning for Sonia is like people complaining that Grant isn't in the Netflix when nobody gave a fuck about him in CV3. It seems like some hipster bs to be all about these characters that really aren't terribly important in the grand scheme of things, but what do I know?

    WITH THAT SAID....

I actually found Grant to be the most useful of the partners in CV3, and I'm talking North America version Grant. Not only was his mobility a boon but that little knife he was was so fast, especially if you had a controller with turbo on it, you could go right up to a bone pillar or axe knight, crouch down and knife them to death while their projectiles flew right over your head. Plus I loved the clock tower stage you found him in. I'd say Sypha was probably overall the best parner and Alucard to be borderline useless other than his bat ability. He couldn't even fire his weapon while on stairs.

I've had a case on every smart phone I owned because considering how much they cost, it's insane that people don't at least try to protect them. Same with my Switch though, I put a screen protector and have a rubber case that goes on it, and the case actually helps with the ergonomics of playing it hand held a bit.

I kind of wish that Capcom's Chaos Legion (PS2) would make a return, along with Bujingai (PS2) and Shinobi. These games were nice next to Devil May Cry.

Yea it's frustrating there to. I love Symphony. Great game...far from perfect. As much as I love it they really dropped the ball on gear and lvl balance. You get so fucking strong so fucking fast and using trash gear doesn't even help much with offsetting the issue.  Where Symphony really succeeds is in atmosphere, music, and joyful exploration. Exploring Drags castle in that game is really fun, especially the first time, even if most of what you find tends to be kinda trash or a health/heart booster. Least most of the gear tends to have some kind of silly gimmick attached to that makes it some level of interesting even if the stats aren't good/game can't really support it.
