Yeah this is a pretty important thing. The other day I was fighting this Bison that was all gimmicks. Every stock burned immediately on EX Blast, lots of raw DR, full screen VS2, etc. No “fundamentals” to speak of.

The thing is that I was losing to it because:
    1.  I didn’t expect him to keep being dumb (lol)
    2. I was letting him run his game while waiting for him to hang himself. Everything Bison does it safe, plus, or a spacing trap tho...so i was waiting a long ass time and getting rolled.

I was at the last round about to get 2-0’ed thinking to myself the classic “how am I losing to this guy...he’s flowchart trash”. At some point tho i realized I was playing right into his strategy and I changed tactics. Got way more aggressive and in his face...not even trying to rush him down but just throw him off balance by setting the pace.

Not only did it work, this guy absolutely crumbled. Dude had zero fundamentals and it showed. No defense, shit footsies, and absolutely no ability to make adjustments. Won the set and the next ones after so decisively he started denying runbacks lol. The funny thing is that every time I saw him he had more points.

A lot of people online are like that. Not playing the exact same way necessarily, but they have their one flowchart strategy that they either can’t or won’t deviate from too much. They’re playing their character and running their game while not really paying attention to you.

    Spoiler alert: it fuckin sucks.

The only new ones I genuinely like are Force Awakens and Rougue 1.

Anti airs in SFV are trash and don't do enough damage or give enough advantage.

The game incentivizes jumping so much. You can eat 5 AAs and get the life lead back with one successful jump in. It's wack.

Accent core has more players on PC right now than Tekken 7, SFV, or DBFZ
    AC+R is a 483 year old game
    rollback helps

also i played a bunch and the online is near flawless

Wow, MK11’s netcode is so much better than this. I think i prefer SFV as a game, but matches with KingTubb, GetTheTables, and now MisterBee are all flawless in MK11 and slightly dodgy in V.

Pretty sure that's Nash for him.

I know people that are in constant character crisis.  But more often than not it's not a real crisis.  They just get bored and want to play around with a new character and that's what they find fun about fighting games.  But if the goal is to get gud, you gotta stick to one or two characters and keep grinding.

Thanks dude! This was super helpful.

This is the summary at the end of the video for those that don't want to watch the whole thing:

    - If cannon lands in front, assume it is plus
    - If you're a 3 frame character, take your turn after cannon switches sides
    - If you're a 4 frame character, you have to guess if cannon switches sides
    - Master the upball crossup block option select
    - Wait out VT2 if Blanka has meter, learn ex upball punish
    - Deny any and all activation if possible

My hand is starting to hurt, so I’m not gonna play much more, but a couple things

Most cancels into the VT ball are true blockstrings. So for example if Blanka does rolling attack xx VT on block, there isn’t any room to mash. The exception is vertical rolling attack. Canceling into the VT follow-up leaves a gap for every version that you can DP through. Be careful trying to DP it, since he can cancel backwards to safety while you go sky high and in a lot of cases it whiff completely.

Another thing with up ball is that (and someone correct me if I’m wrong) cancels into VT from the light and medium version are prone to whiff if you just stay still, but VT from the heavy version will hit you (and can cross up).

Most (all?) VT cancels from EX balls are plus oB. VT from every version of rainbow ball is plus. Light rolling attack into VT is plus, M is even, and H looks minus but safe.

I was checking some stuff out in training mode. Checked youtube to see if I could find vids on something I had a question on and saw this.

I'm gonna look at some character specific stuff but maybe this will help before I post.

Also @DayaanI saw your college post the other day and wanted to add another $0.02 to the pile. Late due to being easily distracted this weekend. Getting officially older does that.

You seem like you have your shit together so I wouldn't worry over much about the actual effort of college itself. In my experience college is mostly about - and most valuable - in that it mimics life in these ways: no one is going to bail you out or push you to do things you need to do, and a lot of it is learning about how to deal with people.

The people I've known who have had the most issues with college are the folks who were the least likely to self-motivate or focus. The college gets paid regardless of if you actually do the work or not, so unless you get a prof that is really invested you are probably going to be mostly left to your own work ethic. That can be a blessing or a curse, depending on how you operate.

Likewise, college is probably the first time you really get to experience the phenomenon of how much the person asking for the work makes a difference with how you approach the work. Understanding your professors and what they want out of you can make a big difference in how good or bad a time you have in a given course. There is still some objectivity to the work itself but the better you get a read on what your prof wants the easier of a time in general you will have. Part of that is you will feel confident about how the work you are producing will likely be evaluated, and part of it is also you'll be able to gauge just how much work needs to go into any given class.

The actual work itself in college can be specifically difficult but very broadly it mostly comes down to how badly you want it and how good you are at managing yourself. If you say focused, read the room, and pace yourself you'll do just fine.

I know this is off topic for the SF lounge but I started playing SF5 for some reason again. Actually been having fun trying to learn Gill. Dude’s hard but I feel like I can do some crazy stuff once I stop confusing fireball for tackle or vice versa.

It's weird, whenever I see the Yakuza series getting mentioned its all the goofy and comical stuff, so I was expecting Scrubs: Japanese Mobster edition when I finally decided to pick it up.
After playing it for a few hours it's actually suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper intense. It's like a high octane crime drama TV show. Kiryu is also a very cool protagonist and I kinda vibe with the dude. Seems like a pretty cool game so far, I'm enjoying it

Compared to 3S his stomps are shit. 3S stomps can hit airborne opponents, can cross up and EX has tracking. None of which he has with his SF5 stomps. Frame advantage on block is all he gets.

It didn’t get better or worse for me this patch. But the the netcode is 9/10 for me overall since switching to PC.

Ideally, you want to get the most damage possible on each punish.  Realistically though, it can be difficult to always net the max punish in the heat of the moment.  A lot of situations require only one normal into special because of spacing.  For now, I'd got with whatever you find most comfortable in training mode since landing a sub-optimal punish is better than landing no punish at all.
