Nice, I’ll check it out. Thanks!

+1 for Control. The atmosphere and writing are top notch and on top of that it is just really goddamn fun to play. It takes a little while to open up but once you start unlocking some stuff it became one of my favorite 3rd person shooters ever.

Haven't played it on PS4/5, been playing it on PC. But the PS5 should be able to run it well which is doubly good because that game can be a real looker with some horsepower behind it.

I’m confused about the memory here. I thought there was like 825 GBs but it says the size in the storage area is only 667 and there are already 180 GBs for “other” (system) data. And it didn’t transfer any of my games, just seemingly save files.

edit: okay that “other” data were my PS4 games, it is slowly adding them as games now. I’ll have to let this sit

Congrats on the PS5 man, your wife is a saint. Never ask her how many people she had to stab to get that thing.

Heads up the PS5's native storage space is tiny. As you've discovered the actual working size is decently smaller than what is spec'd. Also worth noting that you can run PS4 games off of an external HD and they'll run pretty much the same as they would on the PS4 (there were some concerns over external HDs causing issues with "rest mode" but based on what I've heard its inconsistent and there have been a number of updates since then). If you can try to save that NVMe space for PS5 games, PS5 enhanced games, or PS4 games you really love.

As for what to get right now: real slim pickings. Legit the best PS5 game right now is probably the Astro's Playroom pack in.

  3. My tinfoil hat theory is that the reason +R got this out of the blue is because they already had the idea for Strive and maybe used +R as a prototyping exercise. Regardless, very cool feature to get in any game.

Considering that modern replays seem to be mostly just saved strings of inputs, its probably something most games could implement given the time and resources (which is always the hard part).

I've been playing a lot of classic beat 'em ups lately. Having lots of fun.

But yo, the NES ones are so friggin hard. I can see why I failed to complete most of these games when I was younger. It was always much easier on Genesis/SNES because those games felt more like the Arcade versions they were based on. The NES ones really kicked my ass so bad. TMNT 2 Arcade Game and TMNT 3 Manhattan Projects in particular. TMNT 4 Turtles in Time and Hyperstone Heist were much easier. All fun as hell, tho.

Double Dragon 1  (NES)  feels impossible after awhile. 2 was much easier. We don't speak on the NES version of 3.

    Regardless, it's been a blast.

Double Dragon 3 on NES can suck a dick. I was always so excited to play that game due to the different chars but despite renting it and replaying it a ton I never beat it. The game was so unforgiving that at least for me I'd either have a really good run and get pretty far in the game (rare) or everyone dies in the first couple of stages and game over (much more common).

Going back to beat 'em ups is always a good time. One of the things that I always find really interesting is the shift you start to see around the 16-bit era where the mechanics get more sophisticated and they basically turn into lite 1/2 vs many fighting games. AvP is still my favorite beat 'em up ever not just due to the property or the art (peak Capgod) but because of how much fun that game is to play mechanically.

I think that is the thing that beat 'em ups do that no other genre quite touches. When they work right, they're games you can fire up and just roll through waves of dudes, feeling like a badass. SoR4 did a great job at realizing that.

Not even gonna front. When I did go to the gym I would always do my cardio last. I'd go up stairs, look for the girl with the nicest ass, and get on the bike/stair machine behind her. The timer on the machine would tell me I was done before I knew it. Best part was there were TVs in front of the first row of machines, so it looked like I was watching TV.  🤣

That right there is the main thing I miss about going to the gym. Makes cardio a lot easier to get through.  🍑

  6. Nah didn't mind at all. I'm naturally more of a turtle anyways so if I have a life lead and we are full screen I'm inclined to just sit on it. I have tried to get out of the habit of chasing when I don't have to and that was good practice. And having the few seconds to let my brain reset didn't hurt either. 🙂

Fired up training mode to try to tackle some of the more complex Johnny stuff. Not there yet but a baby step closer on some of it. Now I need a nap.

Yeah, I’ve been having a lot more fun in Rev2 now than i ever have. I feel like I’m finally starting to grasp the mechanics (at least most of them - I haven’t incorporated things like dead angles or blitzes yet), and actually really like Millia. She was a design I always liked but either didn’t understand how she was supposed to be played, or maybe i was just trying to approach this as if it was a SF type game.

and sorry for the tension headache! But i’m no too surprised. I often felt like our matches were the equivalent of you trying to swat a pesky mosquito 🤣

That is a pretty good description of it yeah. 😁

Though with how it actually works out is I have to swat the mosquito 10ish times a round.

The other thing I realized afterwards is that was the most FGs I've played in quite a long time. Both in terms of length of time and in terms of density of matches.

Given the intensity of Xrd and how little muscle memory I have for the game I think that is the equivalent of deciding you want to start exercising and immediately jumping up and running a 5K. I'm surprised my brain didn't totally melt.

SFV's net code is temperamental as fuck. That's the my biggest issue. It's not consistent. Like how can I play some dude in Brazil without issue yesterday. I'd probably play @TWINBLADES_SRKwho's on the west coast IIRC and have a worse experience. It makes no sense. It wasn't quite Altimor level but it was solid. While I'd like better netcode if the current code was consistent it would go a long way. Everyone would know they could play and how far way they could be. It's made setting up online events easier for tournament organizers in our current environment and for the average joes like us, we'd know who we battle lounge with.

That has long been my biggest complaint as well.

SFV's netcode hasn't even been consistent across it's entire lifespan. Mattatsu and I played against each other a bunch across multiple seasons and it seemed like every 6 months or so it the matches would run differently (and most frustratingly they were almost always degrading in quality). Same thing with sets with Akhos over the months.

I deeply hope they get this shit sorted for SF6. SF and its players deserve better than this.

Except the Urien players. Fuck them.

Based on some Ed Boon’s tweets lately, I am worried that NRS is working on a Marvel vs DC game.

and yes, I am worried. I love MK, but I don’t think NRS would be the best company for a Marvel game, gameplay and animation-wise

I feel like there would need to be a couple of steps before we got there. NRS has plenty of history with DC but it seems like a bit of a far ask for Marvel to want to get in on a Marvel vs DC right out of the gate.

What I *could* see is that Marvel for whatever reason looks at the consistent success NRS has had with their games in general and with DC (success in this case also equals units sold) and maybe comes to them for their next FG outing instead of Capcom. Slap a cinematic story mode on there, give Captain America some fucked up animations, and there you go. Wouldn't even need to make up an edgelord setting for everything to happen in: they already did the Ultimate universe.

Then in 5 years we get Ultimate Injustice: Marvel vs DC. And while the fighters may animate like two car sale tube men fighting each other, the effects and character models will be off the charts and the cinematic story mode will still be leagues better than any movie DC has put out sans Wonder Woman. It will go on to be the first game to sell 1 billion copies. Ed Boon retires to his sky palace.

Acting like you didn’t win the majority of the time lol.

yeah, she’s fun, but I really need to optimize her. Dropped a lot of combos and setups and that’s a bit costly with her. her mobility is amazing though

Your Johnny had some dirt though and a lot of times I had no idea how to get in, or get out lol. It was a ton of fun tho

W/L right now isn't super relevant though. What matters is what you're building in the matches. And in your case you have a good grasp on Millia's mobility, a solid start on her mix up game, and you're kind of getting the flow for Rev in general. A lot of our rounds went down to the last little smidge of time with both players having near no life. 😁

Johnny is a lot easier as a starter character IMO. Like he has a lot of technical stuff I could be doing but at base he has some really good buttons to work with and Mist Finer is something I can tack onto any string for more damage + whatever benefits I have from coins. So at this level where we're both kind of still flailing around I'm getting a lot more return on individual hits and exchanges than you are. The tradeoff is supposed to be when you can start running Millia's game she can make up the difference, and Johnny just kind of has to sit there and take it outside of prayer mashing, Dead Angle, Burst, or reversal super (none of which are sustainable options). There were definitely some rounds where you had me in the corner and gave me the work, which is how Millia wants that match up to go I think (probably every match up, really).

It may or may not have come across in those games but I had to work a lot to try to keep you where I wanted you. There are so many ways to approach and you can't cover them all at the same time so a lot of it for me was learning what I could do and making educated guesses. I legit got a tension headache from those games. 😆 Had to go walk it off afterwards.

I still love Johnny. Actually learning how to play him would take a fair bit of work but it'd be worth it for what he can do, at least in Xrd. We'll see how he is in Strive when he inevitably shows up; my guess will be beastly.

Fun times, as always. This will be a fun thing to do while Strive is getting polished up and ready for the summer.

    GGs @GetTheTables!

your Johnny is hard to get around sometimes lol

GGs man, was a lot of fun.

You were really shucking and jiving with Millia. It was all I could sometimes to keep up.

EDIT: It still cracks me up that we have generally solid connections in this game (that isn't even regarded as having good netcode for a delay based system) but SFV always turns into a teleport festival after like 2 games.

Yeah, I hear it all the time by the FGC talking heads, grapplers eat paint, playing a grappler is braindead, blah blah blah.

Old boring takes that are usually just for the purpose of trolling.

Grapplers are imho super honest: They want to get in your face and grab you, cause if they can do that 2-3 times, they win.

People, very understandably, don't like feeling helpless. Grapplers and zoners tend to frustrate a lot because they evoke that feeling really well if the player is using the appropriately.

Well played grapplers can be a thing of beauty. I sill fondly remember Itazan's run with Abigail I think it was 2 years back during CPT Finals. He had to fight some wars to get through the brackets including an amazing set vs Menat (can't remember who was piloting, maybe Justin at the time?) For as much as anyone can meme about Abigail (and if any grappler char screamed "I EAT PAINT CHIPS" it is that one) Itazan put on a clinic of smart play and expert decision making.

Pot had degenerate shit, plain and simple. Degenerate shit by it's very nature is busted at first glance, then gets solved and anyone dialed in will know how to beat it.

People need to chill on the balance stuff. like you said

Fighting games today get rid of truly broken shit immediately. And if pot really is that busted and top tier, play pot lol

Grapplers in general tend to get people heated. I can sympathize, though I have a fondness for the archetype so I'm more willing to let it slide. NGL after watching Pot vids I definitely want to try him in Strive.

Like there is inevitably some stuff that is a little too wackadoo that will very likely need to be adjusted. And it wouldn't shock me at all if there wasn't a broad pass on damage and frame data. But to your point it seems very silly to me to change too much before people can really get in there and learn the match ups at all. Things also get weird because Internet and how many of those people that are clamoring for changes even really played or are just memeing. Shit like that.

Whatever. Still pumped for the game, especially with the delay hopefully polishing some stuff up. I have zero expectations of the lobbies actually changing (they put a lot of work into what they have and 2 months isn't near enough time to redo that) but if they can just get them running more smoothly and not have 70% of your Strive experience be "dumb lobby shit" and 30% be "FUCK YEAH SMELL OF THE GAME" I'll call it a win.
