In KoF14, at the conclusion of the canonical tournament a bunch of dead characters souls were released including Orochi and New Face Team. So technically any character could come back to the roster again in non dream matches.

Likewise, I can't wait to play Shermie. I always thought she was the second best grappler female behind Makoto.

People are always going to do grimy shit though, and having a more "respectable" scene isn't going to change that. I guess it depends on the level of grimy, I've heard stories about the MvC2 scene but maybe you know stuff I don't in this case. 

On the first part about opportunists, fighting games are really inaccessible compared to other competitive video games. Even someone like Max who has over 1 million subs has been part of the scene for over a decade. I liken it to the music scene in that it takes years to be an overnight success.

As for grimy/not know things about the scene it'd take some time for me to unpack it, but I could tell some people forgot or don't know about shit that used to happen. @JHDKcomment about Kineda's wife and the lack of reactions/quotes is revealing to me. There was an old idiom about "Don't bring your girl to tournaments" because of grimy shit that happened in the scene in different geographical locations. There was also other grimy tournament situations where there was bracket fixing, people who should have gotten DQ'd not getting dq'd, pot splitting and other shit that would happen.  If you didn't live in Norcal, Socal, New York, Florida or Texas you could still find out/hear about shit on old efnet and mIRC since a lot of players would use it to talk about all sorts of shit happening in the scene.

Maybe I'm naive but I don't think the FGC is as grimy as everyone says. It's a case of a few people doing stuff so the typical internet response is to paint the entire group that way because of a few idiots.

Depends on the things you've heard/were around for. On both the coasts there were a lot of grimey shit that went on behind the scenes and interpersonally. I'm talking about stuff that wasn't necessarily coming out in twitter threads/reddit/discord etc. The FGC have been transitioning away from that type of culture for a while now and with EVO going corporate this will be the big pivot into competitive gaming as a business for the broader FGC.  Simply put, too much potential money is going to be on the line and the structures will be in place for players to make money off it. Twitch ad revenue/subscribers, youtube ad revenue and sponsorships can help Fighting game players take home 6 figures a year depending on how they preform at big tournies etc. 

Simply put, there is no place for grime when big money is on the line compared to  say 10 years ago.

I know most of you don't watch/care what I do but I'm saying this because I have to refocus if I truly want to make this happen. Therefore, I want to say thank you everyone for watching my more recent streams buuuut, I need to bring it back to what my main focus was: Making MTG content with a focus on JUST YouTube and to slow down/stop streaming. streaming can be fun but it has made me more depressed recently. I appreciate the support I got for those of you who did watch so thanks. If I do stream again, it most likely will be MTG for now and I know no one here anymore cares about that but if you see me on, feel free to say hi and you're still welcome to chat with me there about whatever! 

 

Long story short - I will stop streaming until further notice and refocus my efforts on just my YT channel and helping improve my Fiancée's stream. 

As someone who has been involved with making youtube content in the past here are a couple pointers I can give you (without seeing your content):
 

1. It's about what you have to say and how you present it. Most people will click off videos relatively fast, so you want to engage your audience within that first minute of your video. You will typically have a solid 30 seconds of someone's  completely undivided attention before the dropoff.
2. Your editing doesn't have to be spectacular, but be weary of long (10+ min) videos. People when browsing content will typically give a shorter length video a shot before a longer length video if they're unfamiliar with the creator. Unless you're going for video essay style which leads me to the next two points:
3. Do research/have a vison about the "style" of videos you want to do. Some people make video essays, How-to's, interviews, educational etc. Figure out the style you like
4. Don't be afraid to experiment with your videos. As a young channel, it takes time (usually about 6 months to a year) before you start committing to some formatting
5. Streaming is about viewer engagement. YouTube is about content creation.  Post-production and video preparation is your friend on Youtube.
6. Your fiancé content is growing faster probably because she's female. YouTube and Twitch userbase is primarily 18-35 yo male with a ratio around 60/40 male to female.
7. It's fucking hard at first unless you get lucky.  The first few months can feel like you're talking to the wind with little views until you get viewer engagement and higher views. Stick it out and don't be afraid of reaching out to collaborate with others in the space! It's a great way to get more eyes on you and to learn.

After reading your other posts, you definitely can't chase viewers. If you don't bring anything new to the table, or anything compelling even if it's a different angle or presentation style compared to other channels then you're dead in the water. I know absolutely nothing about Magic the gathering  but based off of what you said and off the top of my head you should pay a lot of attention to the title of you videos. Something like "The BEST  budget MTG  deck for  beginners" and similar titles. Also I'd suggest creating a video series and nest it in a video playlist. "Beginner budget decks" , "is [insert affinity here] the BEST budget deck build?" and other things like that. Have a video playlist or video series about how to buy a budget deck and what are the tradeoffs. What about the website/vendors you can buy budget items from?  What about the best VALUE booster cards/decks? But definitely key in on those titles.

Also if you're going to build a community, why not run budget deck tournaments via discord/reddit or whatever other social media style site where MtG has a presence? Give something back to the community.

This is also true of what I've seen. First time I heard of an open relationship was when I was  19 and messing with some chick  who was a bit older than me. She eventually told me her and her boyfriend had an open relationship. I cut things off after that  revelation because my young mind couldn't fathom how it would be  good for anyone other than short-term gratification. A few months later she hit me back up and told me they had just been testing the open relationship idea since their relationship was rocky beforehand and that they had finally broken up. I still dubbed it and kept it pushing. 

Similarly, every time I hear about an open relationship I typically hear about it going awry due to someone catching feelings or the relationship itself between the original parties isn't all that great. With the only exception being two couples that got married  for legal reasons (citizenship). 

 

Re: SF5

I bought championship edition last weekend along with some other fighting games and it's surprisingly not quite the garbage I was expecting. Some of the normal's are a bit on the stubby side for me and dashes/walk speed is as bad as I was expecting but it's not a complete shitshow so far. It's reminding me of a watered down version of Alpha 2 so far, which isn't exactly a bad thing.

The toughest part has been finding a character that is fun to play and not just interesting to lab with.

That's more of a Marvel and DC thing. You can pick up an indie comic and read a dope story with interesting characters a priori. If you want a trad superhero shared universe with minimal reboots you can dive into the world of Valiant comics. There's lots of great comics out there not being written by the big two.

30th has decent netcode and you can catch games with MegaShockers pretty easily. SFxT is cheap and yiu can unlock all the DLC easily.

 I already own the KoF titles and unfortunately SNK playerpools is always low. I can probably get my fix by setting up Fightcade. +R and Rev being cheap looks good, i'll probably cop one of those. SF5 never looked particularly interesting to me but I might have to reconsider given the price.

It's a great time to jump back into Tekken too since the netcode just got an overhaul and a balance patch dropped. 

Do you have any experience with Under Night or Granblue?  I'm  not into anime fighters but I'm up for giving shit a chance if it's on sale. Tekken is a nogo for me now that I'm not being over to my friends house to play casually with friends.

 

Steam is having a fight game sale, what would be a good pickup? I haven't played any of this generations new fighting games outside of Tekken 7 with some friends.

This is looking to be the same case for me. I didn't buy an 8th generation console and it's looking like I might not buy a 9th gen either since they seem to be glorified PC's more or less.
