Even spent all my drive tickets on colours 3-9. There's no going back after that lol.

I am very close to doing this with Cammy.

I was pretty sure I was either going to play Cammy or Ken (and then maybe a few others) until I realized Cammy’s F+HK is basically Sweet Chin Music and that sealed the deal, lol.

That’s a lot of drive tickets though! I may just grind to get her classic costume this weekend and wait until the first battle pass (which I think starts on the 9th) and see what’s that about

Is the matchmaking working correctly? I've been watching Snake all day today and he's in Diamond league already but keeps getting out into matches against unranked/new challenger tier players. I do remember there was like a skill level selection when you enter the battle hub for the first time but still

If I recall right, you pick your experience level and then have to play in 10 matches (or sets? I’m not sure) to prove it. So on day 1, there may be a lot of players waiting for their placements to be finalized

Doesn’t modern controls have serious damage debuff? I fought a couple people in the beta using it and I swear my hits did like double the damage.

If you do a special or super using the special move button, it does 20% less damage. I don’t believe the auto combos lose any damage except for the specials and/or supers.

from what I understand, you can still do manual inputs in modern controls and not get the damage penalty.

the damage penalty may be worthwhile to whiff punish a medium in neutral with a level 3 super with the press of a button or something

  4. Here’s some more info on the shop and battle pass system, as well as clubs and online ranking

fwiw, I don’t mind the battle pass system (not my favourite but whatever), but I hope you can trade drive tickets in for fighting coins. It would be super lame to me if you needed to spend real money to get the default costume colours 3-9 for the base roster

  5. I do find it odd that there are no Alpha or 3S characters, as Vhozite pointed out, but it does seem especially weird there isn’t one 3S character because that’s the most recent game chronologically.

SF3 was hit hard at the time for a few reasons (new characters, 3D fighters were more popular, arcades were dying, etc), but that was over 20 years ago now, and some of these characters are beloved now. I personally love the 3S cast, but I certainly understand they’re not as iconic/popular as the returning characters they added. I just hope some come as DLC eventually.

  6. I haven’t posted here in months, but I’m not excited for the game yet. I was basically immediately disappointed when I saw that we’re continuing with the Fire God Liu Kang, New Era stuff… Despite it being obvious that’s what they were going to do.

I really wanted NRS to wipe the slate clean and go back to actual MK1 (Raiden being the thunder god and protector of Earthrealm; and no one knowing shit about Kronika, and revenants, and all the other wack story elements NRS introduced).

I don’t care what they call it, this is MK12 in my opinion - it’s a continuation of MK11.

The game looks great graphically, but this is the first MK game (MK vs DC aside) that I do not care about the story. I just don’t care, and that sucks. Also, it seems like they’re going to retcon everyone’s origin to oblivion. I am just tired of NRS NRS’ing.

I also assume this game is going to be just as grindy as MK11 was, probably worse, and the leaked KP1 looks awful to me.

I’ll pick this up if the combat and mechanics seem really good, and it’s not a grindy mess, but we’ll see… Not having crossplay at launch is also a reason why I don’t want to pre-order… I’ll see what happens, but right now, I’m assuming I’ll wait until MK2 (2028) gets announced and then I can buy Ultimate MK12 for $10.

and despite being a grumpy old man, I’m happy to be here, and happy there is a new MK game… I just wish I cared, hopefully the gameplay is great

The reason is guests are overwhelmingly more popular than the main roster, every single time.

Freddie sold the most in mk9

predator and jason outsold everyone else combined in mkx

People vote with their dollar, and overwhelmingly vote guest characters every single time. This is what the public at large wants.

Honest question, is this looking at individual DLC sales only? Because I have an assumption that most MK fans will but the whole KP. It will be the random casual that will buy MK11 + Robocop, or whatever

  8. I only had the chance to play the beta a bit on Friday (hopefully I can put in an hour or two tonight as well, but idk).

anyways, the game is rock solid from what I’ve played. Looks, sounds, and feels great. This actually feels like the next iteration of Street Fighter - like a generation leap that I did not feel in V.

I also appreciate how it’s easy enough to navigate the battle hub on stick. I was worried I was going to swapping controllers constantly.

but if I hear “a player is on a win streak!” One more time, I’m going to crack

    I personally doubt that.

Luke is Top tier in SFV and a lot of that momentum will carry over. He also has some really good straight forward moves in SF6 as well (  people just ignored him in the beta and claim he is low tier with no real reason other than to sound like sheep copying one another ).

It's going to be characters like Honda , Sim maybe even AKI if she has an unconventional playstyle  like Fang ( looks alone can't guarantee a high player count, Menat is a clear example as how the looks are well perceived but play style alone is enough to push the players away )

I think Luke is going to be quite high on the usage list given time.

Good points. He is somewhat of a shoto (as in gameplay) after all, so that will help him out regardless.

  10. I’m very sorry about the news @Edmund

To iterate what others have said, I doubt you could have done anything to help (or anyone for that matter).

It seemed to have happened very quickly and at least he was with you doing what he enjoyed. Those combined are extremely rare.

I don’t have much else to add, but to clearly state, this isn’t your fault.

This won’t be easy of course, so go through all of the emotions you need to. Don’t hold back and you can always reach out to us.

    My sincere condolences.

  11. I don’t believe I mentioned it here, but my awesome wife surprised me with an Arcade1Up Street Fighter arcade cab like a month ago. It’s the Yoga Flame version which can be played online (and has rollback netcode as well).

I recently learned you can soft mod it to add other games, and have since loaded 3S, XvSF, the classic X-Men Konami arcade, and even all of the classic Doom games on it, plus a few others. It’s a pretty sweet unit and if you can get your hands on one for a good price, I’d recommend it.

I should note that the player 2 controls don’t work for the modded games for some reason, but the stock application still works for two players and its online still works after the mods.

I also added in Sanwa buttons and a stick on the P1 side, but it was a bit of a PITA tbh, but worth it. If you guys have any questions let me know, and I can explain the process.

also, I don’t think this cab can run MVC2. I got it working, but I thought I was going to melt the board when Sentinel was on the screen calling assists so I deleted it

I feel like a lot of the decisions they made for MK11 were in reaction to how block string and lockdown heavy MKX was.

I have it on PS4, and I'm not great, but I enjoy the game a lot.

Oh for sure. I agree that the next game after X should have been a bit less pressure/mix-up heavy, but they completely reinvented the wheel in 11 and made up new mechanics and things to completely shake up the formula when they were very close to getting it perfect (imo of course).

it seems like we are a few weeks away from an MK12 reveal though, so hopefully they bounce back closer to the MKX/9 side of things
