Different time unfortunately.  When this article was made this was how the industry thought in the process of transitioning to 3D so it wasn't just this publication or even company ( Sony being one of the biggest offenders back in the day) of this mindet.  We mostly know better now with the hindsight but back then all they cared about was the shiny new polygons everywhere regardless of game design.

What is amusing, is that Sony's problems started and finished with Bernie Stolar, he was the dumbass responsible of the anti 2d policy, which lasted like 12 months iirc.

Once he was out of Sony, Sony removed said policy.

 

Is amazing how 1 person could hold enough power to implement something as dumb as that.

 

Years later, Sony had something similar happen during the PS2, requiring every game to have an english voice over, but IIRC that one lasted even less than a year, but impacted releases like Arcana Heart which had the voices removed on the usa release.

 

And years later did something similar with games without dubs only being able to be released as digital games on the PS3, which also lasted only like a year. IIRC, it once again affected Arcana Heart 3 release, lol.

IIRC he denied like 90% of Saturn's games from being released on USA for similar reasons to his no 2d games policy.

That and also for being too japanese.

 

Also, I think he was the reason why the Dreamcast didn't use DVD's and instead used a proprietary format. But I could be wrong about this.

He was a mixed bag.

Some people consider him a legend due his contributions, but at the same time, he did a lot of stuff that can be considered quite dumb, specially on Sega.

 

IIRC he started on Atari.

It's funny that some Diablo fans originally assumed or hoped that D4 won't end up like D3 in terms of ridiculous numbers....it just seems to be the natural evolution of this type of game, imo.... from Moxy's latest clip, oh yes... 1 billion+ damage has already been a thing apparently:

 

I'm still on a necromancer this season; only up to level 45 though (blood nova build...I might try making this a hybrid nova/lance build since I bet that would be a bit more interesting and fun, gameplay-wise.  The blood nova-centric builds are still so strong it feels like you're cheating the game.)

A new dev diary for Bloodlines 2

More than likely, I'm guessing this other character "Fabian" that's in Phyre's head... that is younger vamp that foolishly attempted to "diablerize" Phyre (*when 1 vamp tries to drain another completely to nothing, gaining their power; it's an interesting but taboo way for a younger/weaker vampire to fast-track themselves to incredible power)....and failed in doing so, so this body might even be Fabian's, but the 2 are stuck together due to the failed diablerie attempt....perhaps Phyre doesn't remember the exact details of how she/he ended up like this with this other vamp's voice (and soul?) in their head.

 

*also I noticed the Seattle By Night VTM podcast/show is back... I tried watching an episode for a bit but couldn't hang with it once I realized that surprise surprise it is yet another vtm podcast that's still just a bit too light-hearted and "rated PG" for my taste.  I'm not looking for "light-hearted jokey family-friendly fun!", Disney-level shit when it comes to vamps, werewolves and other supernatural creatures like this.  Vampire lore should be "edgelord shit" by default, imo.

My oldest niece played Super Mario RPG for the first time ever on Sunday. She normally doesn't do RPGs but with this game being what it is, she played for over 2 hours. 

 

Played the remake of Super Mario RPG made me realize something: Goombas are broke AF. Seriously, in Mushroom Way, those suckers give you ZERO COINS. Bowser has that huge castle and he isn't paying what could be considered the mascot of his army? That is scummy, even for him. Meanwhile you got Wigglers and Beezos giving you BANK.

I've been seeing a lot of praise for DBFZ's rollback in my feeds...seems like the game might be getting a whole new lease on life once it fully drops.

 

Antony Starr has to respond to a fan that once again he will not be doing Homelander in MK1

And apparently this dude is badgering him about it
