The best I can answer is sorta? 

So it's a federal holiday, so federal workers get it off. Depending on the state, state workers get it off too. Ohio is one of those state, and I'm technically a state employee, but the University doesn't want to take a random day off in October, so they move it to Black Friday and we get that day off instead.

 

TLDR; I don't get Monday off

haha I have like 5 weeks of vacation to use every year and they won't let us transfer it to the next year.

So I pretty much extended every stat holiday by 2 days and took around 2 weeks off in December.

In PA, Columbus day is mostly observed as a holiday on years it coincides with the first day of deer hunting season.

 

My kids' daycare is closed though.

Yeah, i figured it’d be something like that. We have days like that in canada too where the post office is closed, and maybe some banks or something, but everything else is open.

Nice! I got 5 weeks this year (normally have 3 but had to take a 2 week mandatory furlough). I always book off christmas to new year but have like an extra week or so i need to book... I kinda don't want to with how busy i am, but i’m not losing those days.

Thats crazy, but also sounds fun, lol. I’m not much of a hunter, but do bows do much to a deer? I’m sure it would in the neck, etc, but seems like it would take a bit more precision to kill... and thus, more likely to have a pissed off deer in your yard

Yeah, the arrowheads they use for hunting are much more damaging than anything you've probably seen people target shooting with at archery contests or whatever.

 

I don't hunt deer, but I grew up kind of immersed in the culture of it.

Absolutely. My dad used to bow hunt deer. 

 

The shitty part is tracking. You'll hit a deer and have to track till it bleeds out if you don't hit it in a kill spot, normally the lungs

Re: getting old. I have shoulder joint pains, and I've been having sharp pains in my right elbow and arm from an injury that happened over 10 years ago.  I ended up cutting one of the tendons in my wrist and that shit's come back to haunt me fierce.  Right when I turned 40, too. Been thinking about going to a specialist, because shit is definitely fucked up.

 

Hunting.  Arrows will fuck a deer up.  An arrow from the right bow will penetrate more than a bullet will.  I'll be going on my first hunt next month.  A friend drew an oryx tag and I get to sponsor him since I work on the land he's hunting. Stoked for that.  Oryx is the beast game meat I've ever had, by a fairly large margin.

I used to be pretty indifferent to deer until we visited Nara Temple in Japan which is overrun with deer who they believe are spirits. It's a beautiful place. Only thing is, they have little stands where you can buy crackers to feed the deer and the deer were used to getting fed. My girl bought two packs and the deer were nipping at her ass and arms because they saw it. Louis CK was right, they're rats with hooves 🤣🤣🤣
