Hasn't the dev of H2 basically told people that want dei stuff in the game to fuck off? Maybe that's what people are talking about when they say it's "anti political?" It doesn't have any characters, designs, or storylines that a lot of other dei influenced companies are using? If that's the case, then mentioning the story seems to be missing the point.

Again, could be wrong, but it would make sense especially since there seems to be a backlash against games with a lot of dei stuff in them brewing.

The plot is we're on a mission to spread managed democracy.  Period. There's no room for any PC or political stuff.  We even have to have permission to have sex, and our votes are predetermined in this democracy. No time to worry about that shit,  we have to go kill bugs for oil, dammit.

I don't know how you have so little media literacy to somehow think that Helldivers 2 is anti-political.  And yeah this is a real tweet by this guy trying to go after HD2 community manager.  I had to double check to make sure.

Edit:  IGN put up their review for HD2 on Twitter and apparently people are upset and or realizing that they're playing as fascists or upset that they said you're playing as fascists?

Arrowhead literally has to come out and say what they're not being subtle about it apparently.....amazing.

There is a big difference between having political themes on your story/game,etc, and being political.

They certainly have some political themes that serve to set a background of the world that makes sense to it, but said political themes are used for satire and entertainment, and not to push for said politics as a stance for you to adopt.

They haven't told anyone really to fuck off regarding DEI stuff because the community manager that Grummz is attacking actually mentions about the different people that are involved with HD2.  Based on what I've read (which is actually in the tweets above the Grummz screen capped), they banned some transphobic people and it seems to have been somehow confused with them banning people for asking for LGBT items in the game.  They restricted topics having to do with anything like that in their discord in general just to avoid the hate garbage that comes with it.

It'd be kind of weird for them to tell people that that want DEI stuff to "fuck off" when the community manager actually mentions about the diverse people that helped make HD2.  Regardless, saying HD2 is anti-political even if he's potentially trying to say that it's anti-political in one aspect is still a false statement since the game in its design in what it's doing is still very political.  It's like saying X-men is anti political because it's not making a direct statement about the Israeli-Palestine conflict.

They have been banning people asking for LBG stuff to be added to the game and people attacking people asking for LBG stuff.

So basically, banning both sides.

The 1st people to get banned on discord where some people asking for trans flags to be added that started harassing the devs on discord and twitter.

So not just "transphobic" people, lol.

Plus, is clear the devs don't want to deal with the obvious shitshow that would be people killing teammates with rainbow flags.

We all know people will do it for shit and giggles and the rainbow mafia will claim harassment because of it.

That probably goes with them restricting conversation on those topics which is what the CM said.  The CM also flat out said they didn't want deal with the bs that comes with it.

That took a while but I finally ran into a griffin in Dragon's Dogma 2...oh yeah this was a step up in terms of how epic the battle was compared to the random ogres.  Right on time for this, I unlocked "prescient flare" spell just a little while ago, so that helped out big time in being able to finally do real damage....that and the "high salamander" fire spell when he was grounded + the attacks from pawns was melting his health.  This went fast; the griffin was barely able to fly around much or even do anything.

Reviewing the clip---I don't know if it was the last casting of "prescient flare" or the thief pawn going wild or the fire from the mage pawn triggering the flare I put on him, but something did some HUGE damage at the end...he was a little over 50+% of the last health bar and suddenly it was ALL gone instantly.

What @Hecatomsaid makes more sense than how I put it, but that's what I was getting at. They're not trying to make some kind of statement like a lot of media seems to be trying to these days.

All I know is that that Grummz guy (Mark Kern) is sad. Bear in mind, I don't know him, but... looking at his feed, it's next to nothing but screaming woke and DEI at shit all damn day while the game he's supposed to be making might never come out. If you're the only dev on that game, you need to stay your ass in the studio and stop crying about all this other shit on twitter.

ah, so Gears 6 has finally been mentioned and might be shown/revealed soon?!  Reforge is live right now with the question of will it be 30 fps...

I'm kind of surprised MS/Coalition decided to remember this franchise still exists.  I'll keep my expectations low, of course.

Grind Stormer (Steam)

About

Are you sharp enough to dodge all the bullets and blast the enemies into oblivion?

Grind Stormer is a vertically scrolling space shoot ’em up originally developed by Toaplan. The game is an early manic shooter with plenty of bullets coming at the player, a concept that was further developed in Batsugun and eventually led to the bullet hell shoot ’em ups. The barrage of bullets makes Grind Stormer a very hard game even for the shoot ’em up veterans used to a challenge. Newcomers can utilize the new easy mode, rewind, and quick save to learn and progress.

The Japanese version of the game, called V・V (pronounced V Five), features a selectable power-up system with gauges, providing a strategic gameplay element where the key to success is to use the appropriate weapon for each level and enemy encounter. By collecting rhombus items the player can choose between different weapons similar to the Toaplan classic Slap Fight. The international version of Grind Stormer simplifies gameplay by eliminating the selective power-up system and replacing it with instant power-ups based on item acquisition.

Grind Stormer was created by an all-star team that would after their tenure at Toaplan continue their careers in the games industry.

“The perfect hybrid between old school Toaplan and bullet hell.” – Shmup Junkie

Dogyuun is a visual spectacle of amazing pixel art graphics and detailed animation under the artistic vision of Hayashi Miho and Koetsu Iwabuchi. The game also marked the debut of manga artist Junya Inoue as one of the graphic artists.

Dogyuun will knock your socks off. From a presentation standpoint it’s virtually unbeatable in the genre to this day with some of the most creative and detailed stages and enemies ever created.” – Shmup Junkie

Twin Hawk (Steam)

About

Call in a formation of friendly fighter planes and fill the sky with bullets.

A vertical scrolling shooter game where you fight a conquering enemy. Defy the oncoming army and navy barrages! Rest assured, you are not alone; you can call up a formation of six friendly fighters.

Even though powerful enemies like tanks and battleships don’t require as much reflexes, the player must take a strategic approach. This makes Twin Hawk easy to play for players who aren’t familiar with Toaplan’s diverse lineup of shoot ’em ups.

Once the last stage is cleared, the game enters round two and returns to the first stage, but with each loop, the difficulty level increases and there are more bullets to dodge. Like the Japanese title of the game Daisenpu (Great Whirlwind) implies, the game will eventually come roaring into you with full force!

Story

In the year 193x, a fascist conquest of R country was planned. A small city, S City, developed from an oasis, was targeted as an experimental model area for the plan. The conquering army attacked the city, and the people, who had no way to accomplish anything, united the Daisenpu (Great Whirlwind) as an anti-conquest flying squadron to fight against the conquering army. And now, without waiting for the base to be completed, they took off.

Original Game Features

  • Call for Backup: Six friendly planes flying in formation can be called in and provide back-up fire.
  • Deadly Destructive Power: Call up the friendly fighters and press the button again before forming a formation, and the friendly fighters become a bomb with deadly destructive power.
  • Two-Player Tango: The international version of Twin Hawk brings two-player cooperative action.

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Minimal Input Lag: Emulation, input processing, and rendering all complete on the same frame.
  • Quick Save using F1-F10, Reload with Shift+ F1-F10.
  • Online leaderboards for Single Credit, No Assist, and Assisted plays.

I'm just tired of DEI. Let's call it what it is. DEI just Divides, Excludes, and Incites turmoil. They've made things worse with their nonsense. Too many openly racist and/or mistandrist people that never get called on their bullshit by the people they work for. I'm tired of the vitriol they generate for no real pay off.  Take the money allocated to them and give it to the developers. Stop laying devs off and paying people that add nothing to the industry.

What games have DEI affected that would have been SO AMAZING if it wasn't a factor though? Most trash games wouldn't have NOT been saved had they ducked diversity. Hell, there are plenty of games that are trash with no diversity.

I'm not well read on DEI in general, but this overall feels like yet another thing those annoying anti-woke fucks are beating into the ground for relevance.

DEI isn't just games. It's integrated into corporate culture as a whole. It supposed to foster a diverse and open work environment. It doesn't. Companies like Ubisoft and Activision have DEI departments. How's that work environment working out. DEI is the corporate equivalent of the NFL being all about "player safety." They don't care about player saftey, they care about limiting their liability in any future lawsuits. That's what DEI is at the end of the day. It's something major corporations can point to when their department head can't keep his hands off the female employees, or someone does something that's racist, etc. They can point to DEI program they have minimize their liability in a lawsuit. "We have an extensive DEI program and it's unfortunate that (insert asshat here) didn't adhere to it. Please review our DEI a policies linked below." You'll get a corporate email sent out with a link to some pretentious video, that you have to watch every year. Meanwhile you can't get the headcount you need to get actual work done because your company's footing the bill for a bunch of people that do fuck all and pat themselves on the back for it. 😑

I don't know much about this dude other than his constant hunting down of Community Managers at the moment that he senses some sort of DEI stuff from them or if he feels they're too woke.  I didn't even know dude was working on a game to be honest lol.  Apparently dude stirred up controversy before by having a fairly shit take about Starfield's title screen that he has deleted.  Despite how anyone feels about Starfield in general...that's a wild statement to be putting out there from a supposed dev and he got his ass cooked for it.  Apparently he's now saying he's being forced to show his game because DEI Journalists are out to get him.

Glad he cleared up that his project is supposed to pronounced "Ember" cause I def would not have gotten that out of "Em-8er" without being told.    I'm looking through this dude's tweets I"m just now noticing the blue checkmark and dude is posting like 10 times a day about DEI shit...probably even more if I look at his replies.

This is kind of interesting...

Controversies and departure from Red 5 Studios

Kern faced allegations of overspending on promotional campaigns for Firefall. Notably, he devised a marketing strategy involving a Firefall-themed e-sports bus intended as both a mobile promotional tool and a server for LAN competitions during the game's beta phase. The project, estimated at $3 million, also included the establishment of a dedicated video production team with costly equipment.[7] Red 5 employees described Kern as being prone to extended absences and having an "erratic, impulsive, and very disruptive" leadership style.[8]

In 2013, Kern was removed from his position as CEO by the Red 5 board of directors.[9] He referred to his time at the company as his own "Kobayashi Maru".[7]

This dude has also been crowdfunding for Em-8er since 2019 so here's hoping something actually comes out of it!

Being a "Bad Assassins Creed" game isnt the knock against it AC fans seem to think it is lol.

Odyssee was the first time I had fun with an AC game since Black Flag (I did not play Origins)

Link to comment

@AriesWarlockAs for as AC Oddyssey goes, if there was a version of that game without the ridiculous bloat added, it would be a classic. I truly mean that. I used to be on a Bioware centric fan forum that will went by the wayside as Bioware did. Those of us that were still there when AC Oddyssey dropped remarked at how it gave us a classic Bioware vibe. Unfortunately I got just got burned from all the damned bloat. They put so much unnecessary padding in that game. It should have been like a 30 hour exprience that was say 50 hours if you had to do everything. It think I had like 70 hours in that game when I tapped out and never beat it.

Edit: @RSG3I agree with you. Did you ever play Rogue? I heard that it was lot like Black Flag. Never got around to it. Thought about picking it up on PC. It's like $20.

MVG apparently has a solution for the Wii U/3DS online issue. I haven't had a chance to watch the vid, but I got an notification for it.

Just a heads up for anyone interested in Truxton II/Tatsujin OH! On Steam, that game is BRUTALLY hard. Like even shmup pros say it goes too far lol.

Watching the preview clip on Steam along with a youtube playthrough and it's really tough for me to make out some of the enemy bullets from your own attack.

On another note, after playing through P3 Reload for awhile, I restarted BG3. I kept reading all of Millions posts and it motivated me to finish up Act 3. I'm not sure how much I have left, but I feel like I've knocked out a large chunk of the main content.

Naw I never did. An AC game needs a pretty strong gimmick for me to take notice and Rogue just looked like Black Flag and I got that with BF so I left it be. The Greek setting (and the game on sale and all DLC for 20 bucks) is what got me to look at Odysse and I enjoyed it but I probably won't get Origins of Valahalla or anything.

Yea there's a lot of bullet bleeding together, the bosses are massive and eat up so much screen space, hit boxes on everything are massive, bullets are really fast.

Tatsujin Oh translates to Expert King/Emperor and Toaplan really went for it when making the game, its for experts. It's so fucking hard. I'm really hoping the future M2 Shottriggers for Toaplan games has settings to tone it down like most of their games do because it's just so fuckung brutal.

It's also the driver in things like getting rid of blind auditions for orchestras, lowering standards for admissions in medical schools if the applicant ticks the right boxes, wasting huge amounts of time in STEM fields lecturing about racism, not firing (and promoting) shitty workers, and perpetually groveling/pandering to the worst kind of attention seeking people (like the "deergasm" twitch mod or your average Kotaku writer).

y'know... the lazy side of me is a bit annoyed that I have to complete a certain quest for those cool master skills in Dragon's Dogma... on the other hand that does kind of mix it up though, that since those are the top-rank stuff you'd have to do something extra in acquiring such abilities....anyway I'm still having fun here; just unlocked the seismic magic.  I've already seen the casting time is outrageous for those "Maister" spells though.

It would be nice to have more than just 4 spells/abilities... I keep thinking... why not more, since this is the modern era where the typical controller has so many buttons and combinations?  At the least I would've gone the route of having R or L allow you to access "alternate" button-mapped spells/abilities....so there would be your default actions like jump and dash, group 1 of spells/abilities when you hold down L, then group 2 could be if you hold down R, so this would at least give you 8 spells/abilities you can do in battle.

The reduced number of skills you can simultaneously equip was a disappointment. Being able to change them up at campfires (which are all over the place) made up for it a bit though. Definitely something I'd like to see changed in an update or DLC. RB + Dpad offers item shortcuts, I'd gladly give up one of those for a skills page toggle.

I finished my first run of DD2 yesterday, here are my thoughts:

-Exploration is excellent. It was already fun in the original, and it's greatly improved here. As I said in an earlier post, I found it to be full of very memorable experiences. The world feels way more alive, and way more hostile. And a hell of a lot larger.

-Combat was also great, as expected. The number of skills you can equip at one was sort of reduced to 4 (well, increased vs the warrior class in DD).  LB varies based on your class, and acts as another skill in some cases  (i.e. healing as a mage). They also added some variety with the weak/heavy attacks, with those sort of acting as additional skills. As discussed above, you can change your skill loadout at any campfire, which is a big improvement. Would still very much have preferred being able to equip more at once, or just change the 4 on the pause screen.  I only played as a thief, archer, magick archer, and warfarer (using those same weapons) on this run. Warfarer is the way to go one unlocked. as you can equip anything, and you level up all unlocked classes (albeit at a much slower rate). The thief skills in particular were really fun.

-The story was pretty crap. I liked the final twists to the otherwise bland as hell story of the original, this one doesn't do that as well. But there is still a really cool world twist at the last part of the game. Without spoiling it, I'll just say that you haven't finished the game until you have no option to continue other than new game or NG+. But really, if you 're looking for a good story, you're barking up the wrong tree. They did do a better job with several characters, though.

- Like the original, you hit a point where you feel way too overpowered. But it did seem to hit that point a little faster, which was a letdown. I hope they add a hard mode and change the way stats work so that you don't become so godlike, but without making it a 1 hit kill fest either. I recall reading something or watching a video that broke down the problems with how stats break the game in the original- someone at Capcom should watch that. Or just minimize/eliminate stats impact altogether and balance it like an action game, where more skills are where the bulk of your progression is made. Regardless, it did stay really fun- the only time is got a bit stale was with the huge number of skeletons in the endgame.

-Enemy variety was a letdown. Expected to see more types, seems like we actually ended up with less vs Dark Arisen.

-There are some odd QOL regressions, like not being able to change equipment straight from your inventory. Not a huge deal, but baffling to see that undone.

-Pawn AI is very much improved vs the original.

-Endgame, while really cool, doesn't let you linger and grind like it did in the original. Can't help but think they hit time and/or budget constraints.

Overall, despite my complaints, I loved the game, and hope so see it polished up more. I'll definitely be playing again (as other classes), and I'll definitely buy any future expansions. It deserves the praise it's getting in reviews, for sure.

This is random AF...

I was talking to my buddy just now about Ermac in the new MK1 and he wasn't aware of the origin of the actual character and the hoax from the original MK1 arcade game.

So I did some digging and found the screen shot of where Ermac originated.

This is from issue 51 of EGM back in the day.   It was a little side column that was in the issue back from 1993.

So if you didn't know the origin story of Ermac, this is where it all came from.

EDIT:

There are some more cool rumors about MK here:

https://tabmok99.mortalkombatonline.com/rumored_characters.html

There are some letters in regards to readers writing in about Ermac as well on there, on how to unlock and also call it a hoax.
