Yes but also no. Sony has been a major sponsor of EVO for over a decade. And while other companies like Microsoft, Nintendo, NRS, etc have been sponsors as well none of them have backed EVO harder than Sony. So it makes sense that they’re buying EVO.

As a brand, SRK has a lot of recognition and sony would be foolish not leverage that in some way. But I agree with you, it will probably end up being more like Capcommunity.

I've seen more youtubers talking srk in the past few months than almost the past 3-4 years. It maybe pandemic nostalgia but either way it has a strong placement in fgc. It can still be of value, discord is dope but it's so scattered. 

 

I had so much trouble finding combo lists for injustice online. This is literally what srk was meant for.. A hub of info. So many of the old forums and sites have shut down. 

 

If anything this is a great time for srk to centralize the info and wikis

Agreed. Forums are a lot more centralized than Discords and if you have a bunch of tech in a discord, if the admin decides to nuke the server, there goes all that info.I suppose the same could happen to a website, but at least there's stuff like archive.org that could save it. There's nothing like that on discord as far as I know.

 

SRK has been about the only place Ive hung online regularly for probably the last 10+ years, so I'm bummed to see it going the way it has.

I'm sorry to say that grimy era of had alot of unexpected consequences mainly for me is the wiz stuff. So many people apparently knew something was gong on and didn't say anything.
