By that logic, so is Harmony of Dissonance, or Aria of Sorrow, or Dawn

No it's not because the idea here was that it was a console sized game on the big screen instead of a hand held. I don't agree with this sentiment even a little bit.

And that awareness you are taking about is the awareness that it's actually a sequel to Symphony and calls back to it constantly.

Same here.  I have the trilogy and would like to get through them before Elden Ring comes out.

Or Bloodborne Remastered 👀

I would legit buy a PS5 if they announced Bloodborne Remastered 😆

You guys are missing out. You want classic CV, there it is.

I've heard it's more like Ninja Gaiden, which I like but I'm not about to go back to at this point or my life. My blood pressure is high enough 😂

If you upscaled the graphics, any of those games would fit on a console.

RE "awareness" I mean that when they were making Symphony, they weren't trying to make anything but a great game. They didn't get everything right and it's rough around the edges, because there was no self awareness to it at all. It's got a lot of fantastic shit in it BECAUSE they weren't saying "let's make a sequel to SotN or something that makes people think that game" they were just thinking, "this idea is cool as fuck, let's put it in." Everything IGA has done since has been more of the latter and less of the former, even if it's good. It's still him saying, "You guys remember SotN?" in a way.

Bah, nothing that compares to the Jaquio fight in NG1. And if a specific spot gets you too steamed, you can switch to casual (even if for just that stage) and come back to it later. If you can handle CV3, you can handle this- reading user reviews bitching about the difficulty being off the charts makes me suspect few of these people grew up with the originals before they could save scum their way through.

Im half joking. I used to beat NG2 regularly when I was a kid, but I only got as far as 6-2 I think in NG1. That level was brutal.

You know, I honestly don't think the sprites for Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster are bad. Sure, they aren't the originals, but they look better than the mobile ports.

I did some digging and found that the lead pixel artist for Pixel Remaster is Kazuko Shibuya. She has a long history with Square Enix and has done pixel art for, among other titles, the first six Final Fantasy games. This includes character designs, working with GOAT Yoshitaka Amano, and she was even behind those spiffy blue menu windows we love so much.

Looking at comparisons online honestly think the new ones look pretty good. They maybe could have gone with some darker colors for them, they all look a might brighter then the old ones and could potentially look washed out in game, but in general they look fine, with better detail and more refined proportions. Lock in 6 no longer looks fat for example.

I actually forgot about the Arcade mode in Streets of Rage 4... I've only been playing Story mode the last few times, and Boss Rush...so I hit up the Arcade mode last night...sailed thru easily with Floyd.

Remembering the disappointment that is---> Code Vein.... I truly hated the co-op in this damn game, man.  It's like they were trolling with that shit...trying to surpass Fable 2 by creating one of the worst co-op experiences in gaming history....Fable 2 is still the champ though.  Really, I'm fuzzy on the details at this point but here was the deal:

  • There was some kind of "invite" on-screen button...but it didn't work at all.
  • So...you had to create a session with a password or name the room or something, and let your friend know so they look it up to join.
  • The # of healing items is now cut in half because you're in co-op.
  • You cannot play a level where either player has already defeated the boss.  Let's say I'm up to the 3rd area but you aren't.  That cuts off the first 2 areas completely from co-op....we just cannot pick those.
  • If either person gets killed (and it's quite easy to die in this game since it's a wannabe Dark Souls kind of thing; there's also quite a few enemies and situations in the game that are just straight up cheap bullshit, imo.), that co-op session is over.  Now we have to create a session/room again and start over.

It's like as they were coming up with ideas here... some asshole on the team was like "...nah that's too much fun... how 'bout we do it this way instead...we can't let them enjoy this too much.  The boss said it absolutely has to be miserable."  Or maybe they actually had Debbie Downer and Bob Bummer on the dev team there.  There was 1 day where I played this in co-op with a friend, and we never went back to it....it's safe to say we never will.  I may play this again in single-player to finally finish the story one day...but the co-op mode can burn in hell as far as I'm concerned.

...funny thing though... Fable 2 co-op was still the worst of all time.  I still laugh about how I didn't think Molyneux was being *literal* when he mentioned "you'll be like a henchman in the other player's world"... I thought it was just a manner of speech there.  You actually are a generic "henchman" character.  The henchmen are all ugly and plain looking designs, of course.  Unfuckingbelievable, man. 🤣

Tencent to buy British video game studio Sumo for $1.27 billion

Screen-Shot-2021-07-26-at-12.19.41-PM-16

In a busy year for gaming mergers, another deal has just been announced. Tencent is to fully acquire Sumo Group, the UK developer behind LittleBigPlanet 3 and Crackdown 3. The Chinese web giant is offering 513 pence per share for the studio, in which it already owns an 8.75 percent stake, valuing it at $1.26 billion (£990 million).

The acquisition brings another major developer into the Tencent fold. Already the world’s biggest gaming company, Tencent owns League of Legends studio Riot Games, and has a financial stake in several publishers including Epic Games, Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft, Bluehole, Paradox Interactive, Supercell, Grinding Gear Games and Yager, along with chat platform Discord. In February, the company acquired a minority position in DayZ developer Bohemia Interactive.

But, Tencent’s dominance has triggered regulatory pushback at home and abroad. Earlier this month, Chinese authorities blocked its plan to merge its two game livestreaming sites, Douyu and Huya. Tencent is also negiotiating an agreement with a US national security panel that would allow it to retain its stakes in US companiesRiot Games and Epic Games, according to multiple reports.

The Sumo acquisition hands Tencent a mix of AAA and indie content. Alongside LittleBigPlanet 3 and spinoff Sackboyboth published by Sony,Sumo was also behind Hitman 2. It also owns UK-based indie developer The Chinese Room (Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture) and Red Kite Games, best known for ports of games like Two Point Hospital. In February, the studio purchased Poland’s PixelAnt Games for £250,000.

Man, I'm really happy I didn't get into video game development.

At this point it looks like it would of been a guarantee that you'd have to deal with some kind of shit behavior, or end up getting swept up into it and turning into a turd eating goblin like a lot of these goons.

My goal if i ever got into it was to stay reletively independant and make what I wanted cuz no one else was. Now "Metroidvanias" are a dime a dozen, but yea...I wouldnt have joined a company, I woulda tried my hand at my own.

Today, CEO Bobby Kotick shared the following email with our employees:

This has been a difficult and upsetting week.

I want to recognize and thank all those who have come forward in the past and in recent days. I so appreciate your courage. Every voice matters - and we will do a better job of listening now, and in the future.

Our initial responses to the issues we face together, and to your concerns, were, quite frankly, tone deaf.

It is imperative that we acknowledge all perspectives and experiences and respect the feelings of those who have been mistreated in any way. I am sorry that we did not provide the right empathy and understanding.

Many of you have told us that active outreach comes from caring so deeply for the Company. That so many people have reached out and shared thoughts, suggestions, and highlighted opportunities for improvement is a powerful reflection of how you care for our communities of colleagues and players – and for each other. Ensuring that we have a safe and welcoming work environment is my highest priority. The leadership team has heard you loud and clear.

We are taking swift action to be the compassionate, caring company you came to work for and to ensure a safe environment.  There is no place anywhere at our Company for discrimination, harassment, or unequal treatment of any kind.

We will do everything possible to make sure that together, we improve and build the kind of inclusive workplace that is essential to foster creativity and inspiration.

I have asked the law firm WilmerHale to conduct a review of our policies and procedures to ensure that we have and maintain best practices to promote a respectful and inclusive workplace. This work will begin immediately. The WilmerHale team will be led by Stephanie Avakian, who is a member of the management team at WilmerHale and was most recently the Director of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement.

We encourage anyone with an experience you believe violates our policies or in any way made you uncomfortable in the workplace to use any of our many existing channels for reporting or to reach out to Stephanie. She and her team at WilmerHale will be available to speak with you on a confidential basis and can be reached at ATVI@wilmerhale.com or 202-247-2725. Your outreach will be kept confidential. Of course, NO retaliation will be tolerated.

We are committed to long-lasting change. Effective immediately, we will be taking the following actions:

1.  Employee Support. We will continue to investigate each and every claim and will not hesitate to take decisive action.  To strengthen our capabilities in this area we are adding additional senior staff and other resources to both the Compliance team and the Employee Relations team.

2. Listening Sessions. We know many of you have inspired ideas on how to improve our culture. We will be creating safe spaces, moderated by third parties, for you to speak out and share areas for improvement.

3.  Personnel Changes. We are immediately evaluating managers and leaders across the Company. Anyone found to have impeded the integrity of our processes for evaluating claims and imposing appropriate consequences will be terminated.

4.  Hiring Practices. Earlier this year I sent an email requiring all hiring managers to ensure they have diverse candidate slates for all open positions. We will be adding compliance resources to ensure that our hiring managers are in fact adhering to this directive.

5.  In-game Changes. We have heard the input from employee and player communities that some of our in-game content is inappropriate.  We are removing that content.

Your well-being remains my priority and I will spare no company resource ensuring that our company has the most welcoming, comfortable, and safe culture possible.

You have my unwavering commitment that we will improve our company together, and we will be the most inspiring, inclusive entertainment company in the world.

Yours sincerely,

Bobby

I'm watching my wife play through Great Ace Attorney Chronicles and yeah...I didn't think the racism was going to come into play until the later chapters but no...you're getting a dose of that in the first case.

Say wha? I haven't been keeping up with this game, so if you would, what's the deal?

The racism is just portraying what English people were like to others who weren't English.  I think Gamexplain is def right on this in that it does make you feel more motivated to absolve the wrongfully accused cause the culprit is of course on some ole bullshit.
