Video Game Discussion Thread vol. 2

Arika has been putting up more vids...people in the comments say it appears to be a new update.

The next video has Evo Japan in the title so...I'm guessing they're going to be showing more of whatever this is whether it be an update or a new version of fighting layer there?

7 bars of super meter.  Also looks like they have new mechanics shown in this vid.  Also looks like you don't get meter back traditionally?  Still not sure how you go about earning it back.

So I read that TLoU PC has lots of issues...bugs and performance issues.  I haven't started playing but it took nearly an hour to compile the shaders.

All this good talk of RE4 remake is nice.  Guess it has issues on PC also.  I decided not to buy that one cause I have 3 other RE games I still need to play.

P.S.  I almost never have problems with any games I play on PC.  None of the performance issues...bugs maybe here and there.  I think its mostly cause I play them at 1080p 60fps still.

6 years in the story. Not as bad, but still pretty jarring. Hope they have a good explanation for it, but I doubt it.

The channel right now is full of skips like this. Loved that Capcom did this.

Hey, she raised Jin until he was a teenager. Kazuya is still in arrears. That's the real reason he was trying to kill Heihachi. He thought Jun was dead and didn't want to pay the couple of years of back child support he owed Heihachi. Jun hit him with reverse uno card. 🙃

Febrary NPD 2023

Apparently hardware spending was 68% higher in this month than Feb of 2021.  Most of the spending this year was due to PS5 being on the shelves.  Seven of the top 20 games for the month were new titles, with a portion of them charting top 10.  This includes Hogwarts Legacy which ended up taking the top spot for the month managing to boot CoD: MW2 2022 from the spot.  You'll also notice there there's a certain remaster that did not make top 20 for the month.  I'll point it out after posting it as there's a reason for it.

Hardware sales:   In terms of units, PS5 took top spot, followed by Switch and then Xbox Series.  In terms of Dollar amounts,  PS5 was still the top spot, followed by Xbox Series, and then Switch.    I believe this might either be the first or 2nd time since the Switch's release that it was actually 3rd in one of the categories since it's release.  I'd say it's a sign but we'll see what happens in May and June.

Top 20 Feb 2023:  Hogwarts Legacy, CoD MW 2 2022, Dead Space 2023,  Dat Madden 23, FIFA 23, LoU Part 1, Elden Ring, Wild Hearts, Like a Dragon: Ishin!, Octopath Traveler II, Dad of War Ragnarok, Minecraft, MK8D, Pokemon Sc/Vi, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Company of Heroes 3,  Sonic Frontiers, LoU Part II  (This game..JUMPED, it was 41 last month), NBA2K23, Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line .

Metroid Prime Remastered did not chart this month unfortunately but as a reminder, Nintendo doesn't report digital sales for whatever dumb Nintendo reason. So as a reminder the game shadow dropped digitally on Feb. 8th and then dropped physically on the 22nd.  We might see it chart next month.

Top 20 YTD:  Hogwarts Legacy (oh yeah...forgot to mention that HL also booted CoD on the YTD chart too.  I'm pretty sure the majority of the alphabet mafia is not happy), CoD MW 2 2022, Dead Space 2023, Dat Madden 23, FIFA 23, Elden Ring, FE: Engage, Dad of War Ragnarok, LoU Part 1, Forspoken, Pokemon Sc/Vi, Minecraft, MK8D, One Piece Odyssey, Sonic Frontiers, MH: Rise, NBA 2K23, NfS: Unbound, Miles Morales, Wild Hearts.

BATSUGAN Saturn Tribute Boosted!

It looks so freaking beautiful! I say this as someone that has never played BATSUGAN. Play-Asia is gonna be selling physical copies for $30.

*fingers crossed so hard it hurts that this port is of real quality*

Batsugun is one of my favorite shmups of all time. It's one of the grand daddies of Bullet Hell, was the game Ikeda directed before opening Cave, and is just a really gem of a game. I really hope this pack comes with Barsugun Special as well.

Edit: Didint realize that was a trailer. I see Specialis included, good. That trailer actually gave me a lot of hope thay they are putting in the time to make this port really worth it

Man I love Batsugun

I started GoW Ragnarok. I haven't played a GoW game since probably Chains Of Olympus or GoW2 on PS2 so it feels really different.

Gotta say it's pretty hilarious how Kratos has this Tony Soprano thing going on where he's this big tough guy even tough guys are afraid of, yet in the face of his kid, he's no different than any other dad with a teenage son. He looks tired as fuck on the title screen, no wonder they call this game Dad Of War lol!

Also the guy who plays Odin , Richard Schiff, was in that show West Wing and when Odin makes his first appearance, I thought they sounded similar, but only just now looked it up and laughed my balls off. Cracks me up that they him to play Odin, because no matter what Odin says from here on out, all I'll hear is him ranting West Wing style with that voice of his 🤣

so on this last Dead Cells run just now... I finally got to "Hand of the King" and actually killed him on 4C!  I was skeptical that I would get a win here; I only had 2 potion charges left when that fight started... but the damage output was serious since I had 29 points on Tactics this time... 2 of my usual turret choices (sinew and cross-bo-matic), but this time a boomerang IX annd Pyrotechnics VIII ...great synergy with the sinew slicer's bleed effect because Pyro had extra damage to bleed.... + another boost since the boomerang puts inflammable oil on enemies.

The damage bumps from my usual tactics passives are pretty insane as well...

  • Tranquility = at this level I had 53% bonus if no enemies are close
  • Support = 38% while close to a deployed skill like the turrets (*this is in addition to the +10% damage from each of those turrets!)
  • Ranger = next ranged attack after using a skill gets +9012 damage.

The Giant fight right before him....it was like I was bullying him with that much damage... big chunks of his health getting easily knocked off and he was dead in record time.

I'm glad I played it on normal, it drip fed just enough ammo that you could still kill everything without truly running out.

I managed to beat it by the skin of my teeth last night.  Got killed roughly 5-6 times before I made it but Leon was practically in a full body cast by the end.  The second phase of that part is even more stress inducing since everyone has now moved upstairs which is less room and even more crowded then they drop a bull man on you lol.

Actually managed to scrape by the chainsaw twins on my 3rd playthrough and its halfway due to Ashley suddenly coming out her hiding spot which confused the fuck out of me.  I was already 1 foot in the grave and then she comes out and gets kidnapped. "BITCH...I TOLD TO STAY IN THE LOCKER".  Now she's getting kidnapped and carried out of the room which made me have to improvise (read: toss 2 grenades and run like a mad man) to catch up to her and somehow everything worked out.
