Quickly checked out Rose, too, and it seems Target combo into Satellite is the only safe cancel for that v-Skill, as not even Cammy's CA can punish it. From every other button it's technically negative, but it might go unpunished from a st.HP because people usually expect a fireball after that.

Damn, Rose actually got several good buffs. The Soul Punish orb, if detonated by an enemy fireball, actually causes a knockdown and 20 more damage now, and both her v-skills can be cancelled into from normals. The cards have much better frame advantage and can hit airborn enemies too.

And, thus... the Soul Powers have increased!

There is a part of me that wishes that Capcom would do a long-term remaster (or a MK Shaolin Monks/Yakuza-style beat em' up) of the Street Fighter franchise leading up towards the conclusion of SFIV. The purpose behind it would be for the player to utilize their favorite characters in the long-term and in a given scenario to clear up misconceptions or story details. 

 

(Like the concept of Gouki's Shun Goku Satsu for instance. Because, there are still some folks that somehow believe that Gouki *literally* drags people into hell for demons to attack the victim for him, *EVEN AFTER* SFV outright put the final nail in the coffin of the dumbass theory. Yes. People actually still think that weird ass shit is the case. And, even then, SF itself was already insane with some of the narratives chosen for it to begin with, specifically from the angle of Alpha and a lot of stuff from IV and especially V). 

 

It will also be cool idea to explore how characters were able to learn their signature moves, which can be done through a story-context angle or through an EXP system. 

 

This will not happen and this entire statement is nothing but heresy and wishful thinking from some guy who likes hot female ass, titties and fighting games.

because I think the whole SF3 event would be retcon by the time travel and Capcom wouldn't do the time travel Game or an SFAlpha timeline SF6 but instead would make SF6 a new timeline for SF3 events erasing and changing SF3 events. while the whole time travel thing is just a backstory no returning to SFA.

Idk about you but I do NOT want my favourite character reimagined by people who think Luke is a great addition to the franchise and that pressing two buttons for a dp is the way to go.

So after an evening with Akira (not like that, call off the FBI), these are my initial impressions:

 

Pros:

- high damage output, even compared to the SFV average, particularly if you spend a bar or more

- solid set of V-Skills

- good AA options for far jump-ins

- excellent corner carry (just end your first confirmed combo with heavy elbow and the opponent's cornered)

- [subjective] lots of different combo routes that prevent her from feeling as "dry" as someone like Cammy or Karin, the "standing or not standing" thing is particularly interesting

 

Neutral:

- this is mostly due to inexperience, but it can be hard to get value out of V-Trigger 1 IMO

- close jump-ins and cross-ups can be a bit tricky to deal with, but air grab is a good option

 

Bad:

- awful range on most normals, and the only long-range pokes she has (HK, f.HP) lead into nothing on normal hit and are punishable if spaced incorrectly

- throw range feels poor, you almost have to clip into the opponent's character model for her to reach them

- not a lot of options from light confirms if you're using V-Skill 1

- zero tools to bypass fireballs (she's kind of a SFV unicorn in that regard)

 

Overall I like her and she's really fun to play but I doubt she's going to shake up the meta in any way. For a Karin-like archetype she lacks the buttons to confirm from ranges other characters can and if you run into someone like Poison, Sim, Menat or Falke you're just screwed, and even the likes of Chun and Guile can just straight up keep you out of your effective range without too much trouble. V-Trigger 2 might be the better one in the long run as it allows her to confirm from her longer buttons into good damage and corner carry but optimising it is really hard with the stance cancels. Definitely something I'll never reliably pull off as I'm awful at stuff like that. Daigo looks good for twitter mixups but so far I've mostly used him to cover my approach against characters that keep me out which seems like a waste of V-Gauge.

 

I haven't tried Oro and probably won't in the near future, but I think he's the character to watch out for from this update. It'll take a specialist like Xian to make him shine though and he's (unsurprisingly) the less popular pick among the two new characters online right now because he's way harder to wrap your head around and not a cute little girl.

I don't think that's so bad.  Alex gets by with a similar limitation.  There's a lot of situations where just being able to reach with a button stymies opponents' options.

That's true, but I think combined with her really short cancellable buttons it's kind of an issue in some matchups. Alex has that YOLO playstyle where he's just going to use some EX stomp or elbow at some point to get where he wants so it "works" for him. Akira feels more like Lucia without that rather decent cr.MK.

 

Good point with the DP though, I always forget to check those moves as anti-fireball tools as it feels so counter-intuitive (IMO).

But this is a problem that anime has, specially with fan art. If the US likes putting grown adults to play teens and shoot sex scenes, Japan likes making teens that they'll later sell you bikini pics of ad nauseum.  Its not a lot of animes that have regular ass women that are older than 18.

 

Funny enough, think FGs have more of them than a lot of animes.

Well,streamed for a few hours and made it to gold with Akira on this account i made for her.

She has some cool stuff but not really my style of character,though i'll play her some more see where i rank her. She hits very hard tbh but i think has major problems vs zoners from the lil i played with her.

 

But she ok, not a bad addition to the roster.

He's joking about it in the tweet but Soul Bind has been a really shitty reactionary anti-air before this patch and for this angle in particular she didn't really have a reliable answer. I have a few clips on my PS4 that show the scarf just passing through the opponent but I was too lazy to upload them and now it's too late anyway. I had to stop using Soul Bind and switch to cr.HP to significantly increase my success with Rose, that's how bad that move was before. She really needs it to be useable like this because it's the only move that gives her SFV type offense and oki.

 

I'll probably try her changes out in real matches today. Akira is fun and all but she's not my kind of character. I can't react to fireballs with DP and I don't want to invest any time in optimising her Trigger 2 this late into a game where characters like Cammy can do MP->MPxSpiral Arrow for the same amount of damage and corner carry.
